Chapter Five: The Song of the Scumbag

Zhou Li wrapped three buns in oiled paper and entered the county school thoughtfully. As soon as he entered, he saw a familiar carriage parked at the entrance.

A coachman was standing in front of the carriage. Upon seeing him, he bowed and greeted him, "Young Master Zhou."

Zhou Li composed himself and nodded: "Is the young master... in the carriage?"

"yes."

Zhou Li took a long stride and nimbly boarded the carriage. He lifted the black curtain, and light shone through the gap into the carriage, faintly illuminating the figures inside.

The man was very tall; even though he was sitting, his head was almost touching the top of the carriage, which was 1.5 meters high.

He looked thin, but sitting there, he took up most of the rather large carriage.

"Your Highness, the investigation has been completed. He Cheng is indeed a person of questionable character and unfit for important positions." Zhou Li bowed his head and knelt in a gesture of respect.

The man inside the carriage waved his hand, signaling him to stand up and reply.

Zhou Li had been his study companion since childhood, so he didn't stand on ceremony. He immediately got up and sat opposite the man before saying, "The daughter of the pancake shop opposite the county school was once engaged to him, but after he passed the imperial examination, he abandoned her and never mentioned marriage again."

"The woman fell seriously ill as a result, and it is said that she only woke up today."

When Su An was mentioned, Zhou Li's expression changed.

"Your Highness, you don't know, this woman is quite a remarkable person. She just mentioned that she wants me to help her spread the word at the county school, sincerely inviting all the students to come and enjoy the show and listen to her revenge plan as a discarded fiancée."

"Oh, by the way, she also gave me some steamed buns. They smell pretty good. Would you like to try some?"

As he spoke, he handed the steamed bun in his hand to the man.

"No need." Fu Zhun's gaze was indifferent; he didn't even look at the steamed bun, but said to Zhou Li, "Since she wants you to spread the word, then go and help her. Make sure every student in the county school knows about this." An ungrateful person should be punished.

Seeing that he had no interest in the steamed buns, Zhou Li sighed and withdrew his hand.

His prince, since being wounded on the battlefield half a year ago, not only broke his leg, but also lost his sense of smell and taste.

From then on, no matter how delicious the food was, he could neither smell nor taste it.

"Alright, then I'll go to the county school to promote it first." Zhou Li sighed again, losing his appetite. He wrapped the buns and put them in the car, preparing to go and help the small business owner promote his revenge plan.

He came and went in a hurry, and Zhou Li quickly jumped off the carriage and strode into the county school.

Inside the carriage, only Fu Zhun and a few steamed buns remained.

Fu Zhun leaned back in the carriage, closing his eyes to rest.

Just then, a commotion arose from not far away, as if something exciting was taking place.

Fu Zhun suddenly opened his eyes and listened intently, only to hear a chanting coming from outside the carriage window: "Floating in the clouds, floating in the clouds, the newly promoted scholar He Cheng and his whole family are shameless! The scholar himself abandoned his fiancée after passing the imperial examination, owing her ten taels of silver, and then he and his mother refused to acknowledge the debt! We had no choice but to sell steamed buns to pay off the debt. The fragrant steamed buns that originally cost ten coins are all half price, five coins each! He Cheng, you are not human! You asked my mother to borrow ten taels of silver for you to take the exam, and now that you want to pay it back, you refuse to acknowledge it! Give us back our hard-earned money! Give us back our hard-earned money!"

Fu Zhun: "..."

He lifted the curtain and looked out the car window, only to see a pale-faced, delicate, and beautiful young girl standing with her hands on her hips at the entrance of the pancake shop opposite the county school, singing loudly.

The highly infectious melody and lyrics quickly attracted crowds of people to stop and watch.

"Yes, yes, yes, I'm the abandoned wife! That bastard He Cheng ruined my whole family, now we can only sell steamed buns to pay off our debts!"

The girl answered the question loudly, and soon began to sing another song: "Big steamed bun, so fragrant, thin skin, big filling, eighteen pleats, buy one and try it, you'll want more after you've eaten one!"

"Customer, are you sure you don't want two steamed buns?! If you buy the buns, you can eat them while I tell you about that scumbag He Cheng. I'm not going to hold back today; I'll expose He Cheng's true colors completely and tell you everything!"

This was a mix of complaining and sales pitches. The ancients had never seen anything like this before, and they all opened their wallets, each getting a steamed bun.

It tasted really good.

Someone immediately exclaimed, "Young boss, your steamed buns are really delicious! I've never eaten anything like this before!"

"The outer skin is made of dough, soft yet chewy, and inside is a filling of fatty intestines, juicy and incredibly fragrant! This bun is so soft and flavorful! Absolutely delicious!"

"Will they sell them every day from now on? I really want to be able to eat steamed buns every day!"

"If I could eat steamed buns, I'd be willing to come here every day to eat He Cheng's gossip!"

...

Seeing the bustling scene at the sesame seed cake shop, with people holding steamed buns and eating them with great relish, Fu Zhun stared silently for a long time.

For some reason, he suddenly felt a fragrance wafting from the shop.

It has the long-lost aroma of wheat and the aroma of meat that I've never smelled before.

"..." But how could that be?

Fu Zhun withdrew his gaze, lowered the curtain, and closed his eyes, no longer looking at the group of people whose mouths were greasy from eating.

He leaned against the carriage and took a deep breath.

Then, the aroma became even stronger, with a fresh wheat fragrance blended with a unique meaty aroma. The rich meaty aroma immediately whetted one's appetite upon entering the nasal cavity.

"?"

Fu Zhun frowned, then opened his eyes wide, his dark gaze instantly fixing on the steamed buns in the carriage.

His dark eyes were fixed on the steamed bun for a long time before he lazily moved his body.

Leaning slightly forward, he stretched out his long arm and grabbed the steamed bun in his hand.

In the blink of an eye, the oil paper package was opened, revealing three buns inside.

Two perfectly round, soft and plump balls that, when squeezed, quickly and easily spring back to their original shape.

There was also a broken bun, still filled with fresh soup, through which you could see the plump and tender pork intestines. The soup looked so tempting that you couldn't wait to take a bite.

The flavor comes from this bun.

Outside the carriage, a man called the coachman, who was actually a guard, sniffed and could vaguely smell the odor inside the carriage.

And, I heard soft rustling sounds inside the carriage.

There was a strange fragrance and strange noises.

Could it be... an assassin?!

The guard immediately became alert: "Master?"

One second, two seconds passed, but there was no reply.

The guard's heart tightened, and he instantly darted to the front of the carriage, tearing open the curtain with a "whoosh".

He met a pair of dark, deep eyes.

The owner of those dark eyes was holding a steamed bun in his hand.

Zhou Li's steamed buns.

Guard: "..."

"???"

Your Highness, are you hiding in the carriage to sneak a bite?
