Chapter Forty-Five: Directing and Acting in a Play

"I didn't..." Fu Zhun opened his mouth, both amused and exasperated, but Su An had already casually pushed him out the door.

It was dusk, the sky was ablaze with golden light, and the streets were filled with the faint scent of cooking fires.

"It really is a beautiful view," Su An said with a smile, feeling a rare sense of relaxation.

She's been so busy expanding and strengthening her business lately that she hasn't had a proper rest.

"Hmm." Fu Zhun responded absentmindedly, showing no interest in the surrounding scenery, but instead focusing his attention on Su An.

After a moment of silence, he seized the opportunity to ask the question that had been weighing on his mind all day.

What is your opinion of He Cheng?

He spoke in a very casual tone, as if he were mentioning it in a nonchalant manner, which caught Su An off guard and made her pause in surprise.

But after realizing what she had said, her expression immediately turned to disgust. "Why bring up that unlucky thing for no reason? Forget about opinions, just looking at it for a second is an eyesore."

Just thinking about it makes her feel nauseous and shudder.

Fu Zhun couldn't help but curl his lips into a smile, and then said, "But I heard that you two once made a vow of eternal love. Can you really sever all ties with me?"

"Stop right there!"

Su An waved his hand dismissively, "Who cares if mountains collapse, the earth cracks, the sea dries up, or rocks crumble, there's absolutely no chance between him and me!"

Upon hearing this, a smile finally appeared in Fu Zhun's eyes, and his previous gloomy mood vanished.

“That would be perfect…” he said softly.

Su An didn't hear clearly, her almond-shaped eyebrows furrowed slightly, and she leaned down to ask, "What did you say?"

As she moved, a strand of her fragrant hair gently brushed against Fu Zhun's cheek.

He paused, tilted his head slightly, and met the girl's clear, bright eyes.

My heart, which had just calmed down, suddenly started beating a little faster uncontrollably.

Fu Zhun's dark eyes flickered, and he was about to open his mouth when he suddenly noticed something strange behind him. He immediately reached out and pulled Su An into his arms.

Su An blinked in bewilderment, her hands awkwardly bracing against his firm chest, when she heard his cold voice say, "Someone is following us, and there are quite a few of them."

"What?" Su An didn't have time to let her girlish heart flutter. She immediately sounded the alarm and glanced behind her.

The group of people seemed to have no intention of hiding their whereabouts, and they appeared from the street corner, quickly forming a group of six that surrounded them.

The leading man was strong and burly. He glanced disdainfully past Fu Zhun, seemingly not taking him seriously, and instead looked at Su An with a wicked glint in his eye, whistling in a sleazy tone.

"Young lady, you're quite pretty. Would you be interested in becoming my eighth concubine?"

Stone grinned lewdly as he directed his five henchmen to surround the two men.

"It's your good fortune to have caught our boss's eye, girl. What are you standing there for? Hurry up and throw yourself into his arms!"

The younger brother, with malicious intent, egged them on.

Su An frowned and exchanged a glance with Fu Zhun, both sensing that something was amiss.

These men spoke in a thuggish manner, but their faces were full of malice, making them seem more like they were there to fight and cause trouble than to molest someone.

"Hey, you cripple, how dare you hug the woman I've got my eye on!"

Stone couldn't wait any longer, cursing and reaching out to grab Su An.

"You dare!" Fu Zhun hissed, his eyes suddenly turning cold, and a hidden blade was about to be swung out from his fingertips.

However, at that moment, a figure seized the opportunity and rushed out, punching the rock, shouting, "What kind of scoundrel dares to touch Xiao An!"

Su An froze for a moment; that nauseating voice was—

What a success!

He Cheng, with one arm still in a sling, angrily knocked down the stone and then looked at her with a tense expression.

"Xiao An, are you alright? I just happened to run into you being surrounded by these thugs, so I rushed over to save you!"

"You? Save me?"

Su An glanced at He Cheng, who looked concerned, then at the stone lying on the ground, and suddenly had a flash of inspiration. He gave a sarcastic smirk.

Great, the case is solved!

She realized that the eerie feeling of these thugs came from a whole show staged by this scumbag!

She held down Fu Zhun's restless hand, stared at He Cheng, and sneered sarcastically, "Fine, go ahead then, it's up to you now."

He Cheng didn't get the tearful gratitude he had imagined from Su An, and immediately cursed inwardly, "I still didn't have enough strength!"

He quickly gave Shi Tou a wink.

Shi Tou immediately stopped howling, flipped himself up with a somersault, glared at He Cheng and roared: "Where did this brat come from? You think you can play the hero and save the damsel in distress?"

"Brothers, get him together! Beat up this guy who's not afraid to die!"

The crowd shouted and immediately surrounded and beat He Cheng. He Cheng initially fought back bravely, but he was beaten to the ground and couldn't get up after a few blows, screaming in pain.

Even so, he endured his injuries and stood resolutely in front of Su An, saying, "Hit me all you want! As long as you don't make things difficult for Xiao An, you can take my life if you want!"

That shout was so full of deep emotion and righteousness that Su An found it increasingly mocking.

Fu Zhun had already figured it out, but he still kept a cold and unhappy face, with no intention of appreciating the drama.

Tsk, what a cunning and treacherous villain!

"Boss, this kid is on the verge of death. If we keep fighting, we might lose lives. It's not worth it!"

Seeing that the time was about right, one of the younger men quickly said, "He's really infatuated, why don't we just let it go!"

Shi Tou was pulled back and stopped, spitting fiercely at He Cheng. "Hmph, I'll let you go today, but remember to stay away from me in the future, or I'll beat you every time I see you!"

"Let's retreat!"

Seeing this, Su An finally couldn't help but burst out laughing.

This smile immediately stunned He Cheng, who was about to play the victim, and the others who were about to leave.

He Cheng, whose face was bruised and swollen, quickly comforted him, "Xiao An, were you scared? Don't be afraid, I've chased them away..."

"Does he look down on our intelligence?" Su An ignored him and turned to ask Fu Zhun.

Fu Zhun nodded slightly, the disdain in his eyes seemingly materializing. "Perhaps you think everyone else is blind."

Su An nodded with a half-smile, "More than that, it's so fake it's disgusting. At this point, shouldn't that scoundrel arrest me so he can better play the hero and save the damsel in distress?"

"Look at that face covered in pig's blood, it's still dripping, pfft—"

Su An couldn't help but point at He Cheng's face, which was covered in pig's blood, and couldn't stop laughing.

Fu Zhun glanced at it and commented, "Their punching motions are the most fake; they just smeared the pig's blood on them under the guise of it."

The two men's words instantly turned He Cheng's face a deep purplish-red, and the group of thugs on the other side looked at each other awkwardly.

They acted so hard, but in the end, the other person wasn't fooled at all.

Were you just being treated like a monkey?!

Filled with resentment, He Cheng stammered, "Xiao An, what are you saying? I was almost beaten to death trying to save you!"
