Chapter Sixty-Five: A Good Man Shouldn't Be Sentimental

As the saying goes, "to catch an adulterer in the act, one must catch them in the act of stealing," and since she had no evidence, it was indeed difficult for her to speak up.

"It seems I misread it. But the commotion has made the food cold. I'll go back to the kitchen and prepare something new."

Before anyone could react, Su An had already swiftly cleared away all the food on the table.

She's always been the one who calls the shots at home, and the rest of the family hasn't felt there's anything wrong with it.

However, He Wangshi's expression showed a hint of resentment.

After dinner, Su An used the excuse of taking a walk to take the food he had secretly left behind to the neighbor's.

Is Doctor Xie here?

Su An stood outside Xie Qingfeng's house and gently knocked on the door.

She vaguely heard some movement inside, and soon Xie Qingfeng came out.

"Boss Su, what brings you here? I'm not the master." Xie Qingfeng said with his usual sharp tongue, but the next moment his gaze fell on the food in Su An's hands.

"Oh, what delicious food have you made this time?"

Vibrant green bok choy, golden scrambled eggs, and braised pork belly.

Those who saw it were very tempted.

However, it was already well past dinner time.

Why is Boss Su coming to see me now?

"It's not anything delicious. I came to see Doctor Xie so he could check if the food has been poisoned."

She handed over the food.

"Poisoning?"

Upon hearing those two words, Xie Qingfeng's brows furrowed sharply, and a venomous glint flashed in his eyes.

"Why would someone poison us out of the blue?"

Could it be that someone is trying to harm their master?

Seeing Xie Qingfeng's alarmed expression, Su An quickly shook his head.

"It is Lady He Wang."

She told Xie Qingfeng about what had happened at home that day.

The county town wasn't too big or too small, so how come her mother happened to see those scoundrels collecting debts?

The He family are ruthless and no good people at all!

"I see. Let me see, there's no poison in the world that can escape my notice!"

Xie Qingfeng's expression was cold and arrogant. He took a silver needle from his sleeve and inserted it into the food.

However, the silver needles did not react at all.

He examined it for a long time, and finally frowned and clicked his tongue.

“This isn’t right. According to you, Mr. Su, there should be poison in this food, but no matter how I look at it, there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with it.”

no problem?!

A hint of surprise flashed in Su An's eyes. How could this be?

She saw with her own eyes that He Wangshi scattered something down.

Su An reached out and picked up a piece of bok choy with her chopsticks, then immediately put it in her mouth.

Before Xie Qingfeng could stop him, the small green vegetable had already been put into his mouth.

"Hmm? Sweet?!"

Could it be powdered sugar?

Why would He Wangshi add sugar to it for no reason?

She became wary and was about to put down her chopsticks.

Just then, a loud crash was heard from inside the house, as if something had collapsed.

A suppressed gasp reached Su An's ears.

"Payment?!"

She couldn't be mistaken; it was definitely Fu Zhun's voice!

Xie Qingfeng's expression changed, and he strode into the house.

"master!"

The room was filled with a pungent medicinal smell, and in the very center of the room stood a bathtub that was about half a person tall.

Fu Zhun sat naked in the bathtub, his once handsome face contorted in pain, his brows furrowed, his hands gripping the edge of the tub tightly, veins bulging.

His eyes were tightly closed, his thick eyebrows trembled incessantly, and his face was deathly pale, as if he were enduring immense pain.

The exposed skin had an unusual, reddish hue.

Sweat dripped from his forehead, tracing the contours of his angular face, and falling to the ground, leaving dark streaks.

Xie Qingfeng rushed forward and quickly took out two more silver needles from his sleeve, inserting them into Fu Zhun's Baihui and Qianding acupoints on his head.

Fu Zhun let out a painful groan, his face turning even paler.

"how so?"

Su An never expected to see such a scene, and was immediately flustered.

"It's all because some people are showing off their strength. A raid of thousands of miles isn't that simple—"

Xie Qingfeng snorted coldly, but before he could finish speaking, Fu Zhun interrupted him.

"Thank you, Qingfeng!"

Fu Zhun gave a low shout, his forehead beaded with sweat.

"Fine, fine, I won't say!"

"What are you not going to say!" Su An stared anxiously at Fu Zhun, tormented by the situation. "What exactly happened? Don't hide it from me!"

Hearing her hoarse, nasal voice, Fu Zhun reluctantly raised his eyes, his gaze filled with reassurance: "Don't worry, I'm really fine, it's just an old ailment."

It's nothing again!

What a big idiot!

Su An couldn't help but feel her eyes redden, and she bit her lip in guilt.

"It's because I'm right!"

As she spoke, Su An raised her hand slightly, her fingertips trembling, wanting to touch Fu Zhun's exposed wrist, but in the end she let her hand fall limply.

She felt as if her heart was being held tightly by countless wires, and every breath she took was accompanied by a sour pain.

"That's not the case. You don't need to blame yourself so much. I came to float to cure my illness."

Fu Zhun's face was ashen, his voice hoarse and dry, each word seeming to be forced out of his throat.

“But you’ve never had an attack before…” Su An retorted in disbelief, feeling extremely distressed.

Even at a time like this, he's still thinking about comforting himself!

"Get out!"

Fu Zhun gritted his teeth, trying his best to suppress any painful groans, and it seemed that he used all his strength to utter those three words.
