Chapter Sixty-Nine: Delicious Stinky Tofu

"If you like it, I'll have someone send it over tomorrow," Fu Huai replied frankly and without any hesitation, while casually placing a piece of fresh duck blood into her bowl.

"Then I'll have to trouble you, God of Wealth." Su An smiled radiantly, appearing innocent and naive, but her eyes darkened.

Her probing failed, and she bit her chopsticks, deep in thought, realizing she hadn't missed the word "king" that Zhou Li had mentioned earlier.

Is Fu Huai an alias? Or is he connected to the Wang family?

Su An frowned in distress and tapped her head. She had no idea who this high-ranking official surnamed Wang was. She had never left Fuyou County, and even if she knew his name, she would be completely clueless.

Moreover, with so many people in the world bearing the surname Wang, how would she know which "Wang" Fu Huai was?

The next moment, she couldn't help but laugh.

Why would she bother guessing Fu Huai's identity?

They are not from the same class at all.

Fu Huai was unwilling to talk about it, and there was nothing she could do. Why make things difficult for herself?

Thinking of this, she felt a sense of freedom and stopped caring about these things, simply inviting them to eat and drink.

"Hey, you guys are eating way too fast! The food isn't even cooked yet! You'll get diarrhea if you eat this!"

In just a short while, not a single vegetable was left in the hot pot. Su An stared wide-eyed and couldn't help but grumble.

The next moment, a peeled shrimp appeared in her bowl, exquisite and translucent.

Fu Huai wiped his slender fingers with a handkerchief. His hands were as white as jade, with distinct knuckles. For a moment, it was hard to tell whether the handkerchief was whiter or his fingers were whiter.

"Thank you, God of Wealth, I love you!"

Su An's eyes lit up. She took a bite of the shrimp and found it exceptionally delicious.

The next moment, another shrimp appeared in her bowl. Fu Huai started wiping his fingers again, smiling as he said, "Little girl, eat more to nourish yourself."

Su An saw him wipe the dirt off his fingers, but suddenly felt his mouth was dry and hurriedly lowered his head to eat shrimp.

"Delicious, delicious!"

But her face was flushed from the steam.

The God of Wealth, who is a germaphobe, even peeled shrimp for her; she was so touched!

Zhou Li, who was standing nearby, noticed something amiss and couldn't help but tease, "Oh, Young Master Fu, why have you never peeled a shrimp for me? I want some too!"

"Get lost." Fu Huai gave him a cold look.

Zhou Li clutched his chest, his eyes filled with sorrow.

"Oh dear, it's all thanks to Miss Su's influence. This is the first time Master has ever done such dirty work!"

Su An's face turned even redder, but another shrimp appeared in the bowl.

She quietly buried her head in her food, feeling a sweet warmth in her heart.

Xie Qingfeng chimed in from the side, "Who told Fu Huai to like Miss Su? If you're so capable, why don't you be reborn as a girl too!"

"Don't talk nonsense!" Su An waved his hand, unable to resist looking at Fu Huai's expression.

Seeing him peeling shrimp so intently, looking so calm and composed, I couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment.

No, she can't be presumptuous. She's determined to become the richest woman in the world!

Why bother with men? Isn't it better to focus on your career?

After finishing a hot pot meal, Su An slept until dawn. It was rare for him to get up early and not have to set up his stall, so he leisurely lay in the backyard until his employee came to deliver a message.

Hearing that it was Zhou Li who was looking for her, she stretched her limbs and went to the front yard.

"Young boss, the Wang family's tofu has arrived. Want to try some?" Zhou Li smugly leaned over, lifted the white cloth, and revealed the glistening tofu underneath.

The room was filled with a rich aroma of soybeans, but without any beany smell, indicating that the cooking time was just right.

But when did this Wang Po Tofu come into the city? Could it be that Fu Huai bought some other tofu from another shop to fool her?

But there's way too much tofu! We couldn't finish it even in ten days or two weeks!

"Why did you buy so much, you idiot? Are you planning to become a Buddhist and eat vegetarian food? Don't drag me into this, I feel uncomfortable if I don't eat meat for a day!"

Su An was shocked and couldn't help but complain.

Zhou Li scratched his head, looking completely bewildered: "Huh, is that a lot?"

Su An: "..."

Well, the young master has never bought groceries before, so he obviously has no idea what to do and is out of his mind.

She rolled her eyes and said speechlessly, "Fine, I'll think of something. I'll make a tofu feast."

Zhou Li rubbed his hands together, his face full of excitement.

"Then I'll be waiting for Boss Su's delicious food!"

Su An told the workers to move the tofu to the back and put it in a well-ventilated area.

She used a kitchen knife to cut the tofu into small pieces, then covered it with a mosquito net to prevent mosquitoes from flying in.

After that, they left it alone, letting the tofu turn sour and smelly, eventually drying into unwanted stinky dried tofu.

The passing men were heartbroken and discussed it amongst themselves.

"Such good tofu, it's such a waste to let it spoil."

"My wife asked me to bring tofu home the other day, but it was too expensive, so I didn't buy it."

"It stinks and you don't throw it away, what are you trying to do?"

These words were overheard by Su Yue, who happened to be passing by. She ran up to Su An as if she had been wronged.

"Big sister, they're talking badly about you, deliberately letting the tofu spoil and wasting food."

Upon hearing this, Su An was not angry but pleased, and put down what she was doing to look at the tofu.

"Good thing it stinks, I've been waiting for it."

Su An lifted the mosquito net and saw that the dried tofu had grown white mold, which was exactly the state she wanted.

"Big sister, are you confused? How can you eat tofu that's gone bad?" Su Yue pressed, her eyes wide with panic. Had her big sister gone mad?

"There's a famous dish that's been passed down through the ages called stinky tofu. It's made with this kind of moldy tofu, and when paired with dipping sauce, the aroma is irresistible! Everyone who's tried it raves about it!"

Su An's mouth watered just thinking about it. The tofu, soaked in broth, burst open in her mouth, and she chewed on its elastic texture.

No, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

"Xiaoyue, help your older sister wash the dried tofu. I'll give you an ounce of pocket money for each piece."

Su Yue's eyes lit up, and she rolled up her sleeves and got to work.

She was finally blessed with immense wealth; it seemed that following her elder sister had indeed led to her prosperity.

The two sisters washed the dried tofu, patted it dry with a clean cloth, poured enough oil into a pot, and added the dried tofu when the oil was about 70% hot.

Su An focused intently on the color of the dried tofu. It couldn't be too raw or too burnt. Raw tofu was poisonous, and burnt tofu was too tough to chew. Only when it was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside could it absorb all the broth.

Sweat beaded on her nose, her eyes darting around without blinking. The hot oil released the aroma of the dried tofu, yet it also retained a unique pungent smell, making the taste somewhat indescribable.

Su An scooped up a spoonful, then put another spoonful down, and it wasn't until the afternoon that she finished frying.

She sat on the bench, chugging water, her arms trembling so badly they felt like they weren't even hers anymore.

The spoils of victory were all around them, with piles of fried tofu stacked into small mountains, a truly spectacular sight.

Su An felt a surge of accomplishment, having successfully persuaded Zhou Li to willingly pay for the stinky tofu.

She carefully guarded the stinky tofu, knowing that fried food doesn't spoil easily and that she could just refry it tomorrow.

The next day, Zhou Li arrived on time, excitedly awaiting the feast.

Su An's craftsmanship never disappoints.

Su An served the stinky tofu with a dipping sauce on the side. She added chopped chili peppers, minced garlic, and light soy sauce, then a small amount of other seasonings, and poured it over the tofu.

"Ugh! Is this even edible? Boss, don't be like this, taking revenge for personal reasons!"
