Chapter Forty-Nine: Both Imprisoned

Stone did not hide and was quickly arrested.

Faced with the magistrate's interrogation, he pointed at Su An without hesitation and shouted.

"Your Honor, I saw it clearly at the time. It was her and that cripple in the wheelchair who tried to kill He Cheng. The knife almost pierced He Cheng's heart. If we hadn't run fast, we would have been dead long ago!"

The magistrate asked coldly, "Did you drug Su An first?"

Shi Tou felt a pang of panic, but his face was full of confusion and helplessness. "What sleeping potion? No, magistrate, we are all honest people!"

"He Cheng called us along because he wanted to play the hero and save the damsel in distress, but we didn't touch her at all. The young woman and the cripple were so enraged that they tried to kill her!"

Unexpectedly, this rogue turned the tables on her, and Su An was furious, glaring coldly at Shi Tou.

"Even now, you still want to help and side with He Cheng? If I just have the doctor examine you, I'm sure they can find any traces of the drug in your body. You should think carefully before you lie. How much benefit has He Cheng given you? Is it worth risking becoming an accomplice?"

Actually, Su An wasn't sure herself when she said this, since she wasn't a doctor and didn't know if she could still detect the drug after a night.

Upon hearing her words, Shi Tou's expression visibly shrank, and he hesitated.

Are we really going to bluff our way out of this?

Su An was secretly pleased and was about to continue fanning the flames when Ni Dagui and others behind him saw that things were not going well and jumped out with dark faces.

"Su An, stop spouting nonsense! Everyone knows you hate He Cheng! Even if they find out about the drug, you'll definitely have taken it yourself to frame He Cheng!"

“That’s right!” Stone instantly regained his composure and echoed repeatedly.

Ni Dagui was unwilling to let this opportunity slip by, so he pressed Su An relentlessly, adding fuel to the fire.

"Your Excellency, you are unaware of the truth. That vicious woman, Su An, even scalded He Cheng with boiling water, and the wound is still there! She also had excrement and urine thrown on her, and her hand bones broken. She is simply utterly wicked and lawless!"

"He Cheng only wronged her once, yet she repeatedly tried to kill him; she truly wanted He Cheng dead!"

"What!" The magistrate gasped in shock and looked at Su An with fury.

"You seemingly weak woman, how could you be so vicious!"

“Your Excellency, I don’t really blame her. After all, I was in the wrong first…” He Cheng said with a hoarse cough. With the situation looking great, he naturally didn’t forget to put on a show of deep affection, looking at Su An with a pained expression, as if he wanted to say something but couldn’t.

Su An was disgusted; even though he was crippled, he was still restless.

"This woman's behavior is heinous; no leniency shall be shown!" The magistrate interrupted He Cheng, waving his hand and shouting.

"Guards! Arrest this woman and the man in the wheelchair and throw them in jail! Their crimes are numerous; I will investigate them both before making a final decision!"

"yes!"

Two lines of police officers responded; one team went out to arrest Fu Zhun, while the other team headed towards Su An.

"Let's see who dares!" Zhou Li finally spoke up with a cold face.

He angrily glanced at He Cheng first, then took out a token from his waist and raised it high at the magistrate.

"Listen up, Magistrate of Fuyou County! I am the heir of the Marquis of Pingyang in the capital. This identity token serves as proof!"

The county magistrate, who had served as an official for many years, only glanced at the totem on the token before he was immediately filled with awe.

He hurriedly and respectfully stood up, bowed to Zhou Li, and said, "I was unaware that Your Highness was traveling to Fuyou County. I have failed to greet you properly!"

When Ni Dagui saw the magistrate's appearance, he was shocked and looked at Zhou Li as if he had seen a ghost.

"He...he really is the Crown Prince?!"

Ni Dagui's eyes widened, and his lips trembled slightly.

Damn it, what kind of prince would come to this godforsaken place!

Then their plan would be—

Ni Dagui and He Cheng exchanged a fearful glance, their faces turning pale and then red.

Seeing their panic, Zhou Li raised his chin and snorted coldly, feeling much more pleased.

It's true what they say, that bad people often come from remote and impoverished areas. These few people almost made him want to vomit!

Now that he had vented his anger, he said sternly to the magistrate, "I, the young master, hereby testify for Su An that what she said is true. He Cheng and his group attacked first. You cannot arrest them!"

Unexpectedly, upon hearing this, the magistrate straightened his chest and said with a sharp look in his eyes, "I'm afraid that won't work."

"This humble official is fair and impartial in handling cases, never bending the law for personal gain, and will not let any criminal go unpunished. Even if the Crown Prince were here, I would be sorry that I cannot comply!"

A look of astonishment flashed across Zhou Li's eyes, and he stammered, "What...what did you say..."

In the capital, everyone who saw him was trembling with fear and obeyed his every command. How could this lowly county magistrate dare to disobey him?

The key point is that he revealed his identity not to bully others, but to uphold justice!

Zhou Li's handsome face flushed red, and he jumped up again: "I say, have you, the county magistrate, gone blind?!"

"Your Highness, please calm down. I will investigate this case thoroughly. If Su An is innocent, I will give her justice." The magistrate said sternly and ordered the constables to continue their work.

The veins on Zhou Li's forehead bulged, and his eyes turned bloodshot. He held Su An tightly, gritting his teeth as if he was about to say something.

Su An couldn't help but pat his arm, and said with a wry smile, "Forget it, young master. This magistrate is upright and incorruptible. Your approach won't work on him."

Moreover, looking at the magistrate with his upright and righteous demeanor, she felt a sense of admiration and respect.

It's a good thing that Fuyou County has such an upright and just official.

Zhou Li was so angry he almost vomited blood, especially when he saw Ni Dagui and He Cheng opposite him, whose faces had changed again, and who were full of gloating and smugness. He was so angry he wanted to kill them.

Just then, another pair of police officers who had gone out returned. Surrounded in the middle was Fu Zhun, who was being pushed in a wheelchair by Jian Yi.

Upon seeing the prince, Zhou Li was overjoyed and immediately rushed over to wail.

"Wang... no, Master, this ungrateful magistrate wants to arrest you and the young boss. He doesn't care if I reveal my identity. Why don't you reveal your identity too, Master, and scare them to death!"

Fu Zhun glanced at Su An first, and seeing that she was alright, he said in a low voice, "No rush. The magistrate is just following the rules, and his loyalty and courage are commendable. If he wants to investigate, let him investigate thoroughly."

Zhou Li opened his mouth blankly, his face turning green.

He was hoping to use the prince's power to regain his honor, but that plan fell through!

"Hmph, all your tricks and charlatans! No matter how powerful you are, you'll still end up in jail!"

He Cheng stared at Fu Zhun with hatred, his eyes almost overflowing with smug joy.

If he weren't paralyzed now, he would have gone over there to show off his power long ago.

Ni Dagui was overjoyed and urged the magistrate, "Your Honor, please arrest the man and woman who committed the crime and put them in jail as soon as possible!"

With a wave of his hand, the magistrate ordered two pairs of constables to take Su An and Fu Zhun away.

The good news is that the two are in the same prison.

The bad news is that the two are being held in separate cells, one on the left and one on the right!
