Chapter 227 Unrequited Love

After saying this, she started coughing violently, which made Su An tremble with fear.

She was terrified that Li Wanyue would choke on her breath and cough herself to death.

Fu Zhun frowned and gave a disdainful snort.

"Who said I came to visit you? You're just being presumptuous! Jian Yi, bring him up!"

The next moment, Jian Yi was seen carrying Wang Yi into the room.

Only one day had passed, but Wang Yi was much more dejected than before. He was unshaven and looked somewhat dazed. When he saw Fu Zhun and Chu Yi, his legs went weak and he immediately begged for mercy.

"Your Highness, Your Majesty, I was truly acting under orders; it was not my own intention!"

Fu Zhun glanced at Li Wanyue without showing any emotion, and calmly asked the question.

"Then let me ask you, do you recognize the person before you?"

Hearing this, Wang Yi dared to raise his head and cautiously glance at the bed.

The bed was surrounded by curtains, so he could make out the outline of the bed, though he couldn't see clearly.

He glanced at it, then quickly lowered his head and nodded like a chick pecking at rice.

"I recognize you, I recognize you. It was Miss Li who ordered me to do this. I was confused for a moment and that's why I did this mess. Now I have handed over all the money I received. Please, Your Highness, spare my life!"

Upon hearing this, Chu Yi couldn't help but feel suspicious and turned his gaze to Li Wanyue.

Fu Zhun slammed his hand on the armrest of the wheelchair and questioned him sternly.

"I have now ascertained that the assassination attempt on the Emperor was carried out by the Northern Barbarian rebels. With witnesses and physical evidence in hand, what excuse do you have? Confess immediately how you colluded with the Northern Barbarian rebels!"

Li Wanyue no longer cared about playing the victim. She quickly sat up in bed and hurriedly tried to explain herself.

"I did not, this was absolutely not my doing."

As she spoke, she reached out and lifted the bed curtains, her beautiful hair half-draped over her shoulders, and her white undergarments accentuated her delicate figure.

Li Wanyue stood in front of Wang Yi, angrily questioning him.

"You scoundrel, how dare you make baseless accusations? When did I order you to assassinate His Majesty? Or were you instructed to say these things today? How dare you speak nonsense in front of His Majesty? Tell the truth now!"

Amidst her angry outburst, she glanced at Su An, seemingly with a hidden meaning.

When she denied it, Wang Yi became a little anxious.

"Miss Li, this was clearly something you ordered me to do. You can't just turn your back on me after you've served your purpose! Besides, the silver has your Li family's private seal engraved on it. How could that be faked?"

Upon hearing this, Li Wanyue sensed something was amiss, her brows furrowed, and she pressed for further information.

"Silver? I don't know anything about it. Who gave you silver?"

With his life at stake, Wang Yi stood up abruptly and began searching among Li Wanyue's maids.

Finally, his gaze settled on a maid with her head bowed.

He bent down and took a closer look, then his eyes lit up, and he pointed at the man and shouted.

"It was her. She was the one who gave me the money, saying that there would be a generous reward after the matter was settled. I couldn't resist the temptation and that's why I did this despicable thing."

"Yan'er? How is this possible?"

Li Wanyue didn't believe Wang Yi's words at all, and sneered, just about to try to persuade Yan'er.

No sooner said than done, Yan'er suddenly looked up, her eyes suddenly turning sharp. She kicked Wang Yi, who was standing in front of her, away. Then, she nimbly pulled out a dagger from her waist and headed straight for Chu Yi.

By the time everyone reacted, Chu Yi had already been pulled in front of her and a dagger was held against his neck.

Upon seeing this, Li Wanyue's legs went weak and she almost fell to the ground.

She looked at Yan'er and shouted anxiously, "Yan'er, what are you doing? Release His Majesty at once!"

Unexpectedly, Yan'er just snorted coldly, glanced at her, and cursed.

“I went to great lengths to create such a good opportunity, and they mobilized so many people, yet they still couldn’t kill this dog emperor. What a bunch of useless trash! If you don’t want your emperor to die, put down your weapons and let me go.”

"Otherwise, I will kill him right now!"

After saying this, as if afraid that no one would believe her, she suddenly tightened her grip on the dagger.

The icy touch suddenly drew closer, causing Chu Yi's whole body to tense up and his blood to rush to his head.

Li Wanyue watched this scene with a heart full of despair, her face truly devoid of color.

That's it, it's completely over.

Harboring spies from the Northern Barbarians and putting His Majesty in danger is a capital offense punishable by the extermination of nine generations of one's family!

Jian Yi stared warily at Yan'er, gripping the hilt of the sword at his waist, his eyes revealing a murderous intent.

Upon realizing this, Yan'er pulled Chu Yi back a step and shouted.

"What? You don't want your emperor to live? Put down your swords and prepare a fast horse for me. Once I'm safe, I'll release him!"

What a joke! Chu Yi has fallen into the hands of the Northern Barbarians; how could he possibly survive?

Fu Zhun scoffed dismissively, glanced at her with a cold look, and raised an eyebrow before speaking sternly.

"Is that so? Do you Northern Hu people think that without him, you can attack Great Chu with impunity? Great Chu has plenty of brave and skilled warriors. Why don't you kill him with one stroke and let the invaders try!"

Kill him? Why isn't this guy playing by the rules?

Seeing that he didn't care about the hostage in her hands, Yan'er's confidence suddenly wavered, and her eyes showed some panic.

Chu Yi cursed inwardly.

As expected, he had known all along that Fu Zhun harbored rebellious intentions, and today he finally revealed his true colors!

Only Su An saw through Fu Zhun's thoughts. At this moment, she was no longer as carefree as before, and stared intently at Yan'er, silently praying for Fu Zhun in her heart.

Success is absolutely essential, otherwise it would be a heinous crime of treason, a responsibility no one can bear!

Fu Zhun narrowed his eyes and, taking advantage of Yan'er's inattention, lightly tapped the wheelchair.

A steel needle shot out instantly, grazing the edge of Chu Yi's earlobe and embedding itself in the center of Yan'er's forehead.

With a clang, the dagger fell to the ground, and Yan'er's eyes widened as she fell straight to the ground.

Blood splattered on his neck. Chu Yi stiffened in fear and raised his hand to gently touch his earlobe.

The steel needle was just a hair's breadth away from taking his life.

Fu Zhun was as ruthless and decisive as ever!

He swallowed hard, glanced at Fu Zhun, and a sense of apprehension rose in his heart.

Before anyone could recover from their shock, they suddenly heard Li Wanyue kneel down with a thud, crying and begging for mercy.

"Your Majesty, spare my life! I had no idea she was a spy from the Northern Barbarians. The assassination attempt was carried out by her impersonating me. I truly knew nothing about it."

"For the sake of our past relationship, I beg Your Majesty to forgive me this time!"

Chu Yi has always been a suspicious person, and now that he has almost lost his life, how could he easily let this matter go?
