Chapter 113 [Post-Apocalyptic Reconstruction] Underground Cavern

"Yu Lu?"

Emil's voice rose an octave, then, as if realizing something, he lowered his voice and struggled a few times:

"I'm stuck on something, help me out! Damn it, have you seen Liu Na? She hasn't replied to me."

Xu Milu knelt down and touched Liu Na's neck, finding that the other woman was still breathing, only temporarily unconscious.

"She's right next to you, can't you see her?"

If she remembered correctly, Emil was also an evolved being.

Are you serious, friend?

Emil breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing that Liu Na was also there.

"Darkness weakens the senses of evolved beings, isn't that common sense even a three-year-old knows? The lighting equipment broke when it fell, and now I'm practically blind. Hey, do you have anything on you that can provide light? Portable light source, sea salt emergency light, electric lighter, anything will do!"

"I have an old-fashioned lighter. Please wait a moment."

Xu Milu didn't want to take out her fire spirit for light in front of the other party, so she simply went around and picked up a withered vine from the ground. She tore off a piece of clothing that some unlucky person had left there, wrapped it around the vine several times, flicked her wrist, and the Phoenix True Fire landed on the withered vine and ignited immediately.

The sudden burst of light attracted many mutated cockroaches, but Xu Milu's Phoenix True Fire naturally intimidated animals, so the insects almost fled in panic wherever the light shone.

"Ha! These damned bugs are actually afraid of fire!"

Emil smirked with excitement.

"I don't recommend you look closely. Friendly reminder: those things on you are the roots of a mutated banana tree."

Xu Milu approached, torch in hand. As the flames lit up, she saw the expression on Emil's face instantly shift from joy to surprise:

What appeared to be his body were not vines at all, but countless dense white hair roots.

These hair roots, thinner than needles, pierced his skin and were silently sucking his blood. His thighs, forearms, chest, wrists... wherever the skin was exposed, was covered with hair roots.

Beneath the red skin, hair roots were moving about, like wriggling worms.

His broken right leg was also completely wrapped in hair roots—no wonder he couldn't feel the pain.

Liu Na, who had fainted, was in even worse condition. Her head and below were covered by white tree roots, making her look like a cocoon from a distance.

"vomit--"

Emil's stomach churned, and he instinctively struggled violently. His hair roots reacted immediately, their tips hooking and tearing off pieces of flesh.

"Don't move. These things will inject neurotoxins into your body, making you unable to feel pain. The more you struggle, the more flesh will fall off, and you will eventually bleed to death."

Xu Milu squatted down and held the torch next to Emil: "If you use brute force, countless hairs will peel the skin off your back like fishhooks, and that's when you might feel the pain."

These words greatly frightened Emil, the foreigner, and he began to stammer:

"No, no, no way... God, how could such an evil plant exist—"

"This is the East, and it is not under God's jurisdiction."

As Xu Milu spoke, she used a torch to singe off the tree roots embedded in Emil's body. She controlled the force perfectly; the roots fell off with a silent scream, a white flake like falling skin. Throughout, she didn't forget to comfort the trembling foreigner:

"Don't worry, I've slaughtered pigs before, and my singeing technique is excellent."

"How did you fall down too?"

Emil began, trembling.

He didn't really like the other person's metaphor, as it easily made him feel like a fat pig being held down on a chopping board, waiting to be slaughtered.

And he's white-skinned too.

"Oh, I jumped down myself."

Xu Milu replied calmly, "I wanted to study the roots of the mutated vine banana, so I jumped down along with it."

? ? ? ?

Emil's face was full of "Are you out of your mind?" expressions: "Seriously, Yu Lu, are you really not from the Base Research Institute? Only those lunatics could do something so crazy."

"No, I'm just curious about the ingredients; it has nothing to do with scientific research."

Xu Milu shrugged, cleaned the white hairs off Emil's body, and then turned to save the unconscious Liu Na:

"It seems your right leg is broken. To prevent excessive blood loss, we'll leave the hair roots on your leg for now; they can help stop the bleeding. We'll deal with the rest after we get out—you're quite lucky."

Under the power of the Phoenix True Fire, the white hairs on Liu Na's body fluttered down, countless white hairs dancing lightly in the air, which actually looked quite romantic if you didn't look closely.

"Lucky?"

Emil was a natural optimist. He pulled out half a broken banana vine from somewhere, broke it open, and casually placed it in front of Xu Milu:

"I fell down because of this banana, so I can't waste it. Try it, my friend. Mutant bananas are absolutely delicious."

As he spoke, he peeled off the brown skin of the banana, took a big bite as if indignation, and then revealed a look of ecstasy:

"My God, I swear to you, I've never eaten such delicious fruit, not even before the end of the world."

The other person moved too fast, and Xu Milu didn't even have time to stop them. She paused for a moment and decided not to tell this unlucky guy what she had just seen.

After all, if you use corpses as nutrients, how can it not taste good with an excess of nutrition?

...

...

Before Emil could finish his banana, Liu Na woke up. She was the female team member who had mentioned having a daughter earlier.
