Chapter 116 [Post-Apocalyptic Reconstruction] A Narrow Escape

As she spoke, she stood up and said to Xu Milu in a sincere tone:

"Young man, I won't bother with empty words of thanks. Just ask me if you ever need anything, and I'll take care of it without hesitation."

While others thought they escaped because of good luck, Liu Na keenly sensed that something was amiss.

For example, how did the other person manage to fall from such a height and emerge unharmed?

Those mutated cockroaches aren't even afraid of bullets, so why would they be afraid of fire?

But she was a smart woman and realized that Xu Milu was unwilling to say more, so she stopped Emil from revealing more details about their escape: "How could the research institute know exactly when the insect swarm would break out?"

At this point, Emil's attention was indeed diverted:

"I told you long ago, those lunatics at the research institute are capable of anything. Didn't they ever consider the safety of the team members? If we hadn't been lucky enough, we would have been buried in the underground cavern with those damned mutated cockroaches!"

"There's a mole in the team. The message for help was intercepted by the Su family father and son."

The effects of the anesthetic wore off slightly, and Dingxiang struggled to sit up, her expression contorted with rage as she gritted her teeth.

"Don't let him get away with this, or I'll skin him alive."

Xu Milu had no doubt that, given the other party's fiery temper, they might actually do just that.

But there was one thing that bothered her greatly.

That is, the "Dr. Su" they were talking about looked far too familiar.

"Do the Su family father and son wield considerable power in the base?"

Xu Milu feigned curiosity and asked, "They dared to intercept the dispatch team's distress call, aren't they afraid of being held accountable by Captain Nalan?"

"The research institute and the dispatch team have never gotten along. I didn't expect them to not even bother with formalities this time. It seems they're going to tear each other apart."

Dingxiang's face looked quite unpleasant:

"These two, father and son, were originally researchers at the A City base. After the A City base was destroyed by the zombie horde, they joined the Hope Base."

Later, Su Yaran, the father, climbed to a management position through his son. He not only took charge of the research institute but also won over a considerable number of evolved individuals within the base. He launched a project called "Life Extension Plan," and many people in the base were his and his son's supporters.

Neither of them are good people; they look down on ordinary people and believe that evolution is the only way out for humanity's future.

The father is arrogant and looks down on everyone; he's a complete idiot. The son is ruthless and cruel; he's responsible for most of the dirty work at the research institute.
