"Why!"
Cui Shengguo glanced at Xu Milu, who was sighing, but didn't move.
"Why!"
This time, Choi Seung-guk reacted slightly, putting down his newspaper and showing some concern for his mischievous apprentice:
"What's wrong with you again? Were you tired this morning or were you too idle this afternoon? I've been sitting here reading the newspaper, and all I've heard you sighing and sighing. Haven't you heard people say that sighing will bring away all your good fortune? You're so young, why do you have so much sorrow?"
Xu Milu chuckled and gave Cui Shengguo a fawning shoulder massage:
"Master, if you could go into Journey to the West, what would you most like to do?"
"You really have too much free time. I've been spoiling you too much. Didn't I have you practice slapping tofu these past few days? How did you end up bringing up Journey to the West again?"
Cui Shengguo grunted twice, but still answered Xu Milu's question:
"If I could really go to Journey to the West, I would go to the Heavenly Palace to steal a peach from the Heavenly Palace, and then be like Sun Wukong and steal some elixirs. At the very least, I would like to taste what Tang Sanzang's flesh tastes like, right?"
Xu Milu looked slightly embarrassed.
She never expected her master to have such lofty ambitions. She had only ever dared to dream of seeing monkeys, but Cui Shengguo wanted to devour Tang Sanzang right off the bat!
Xu Milu wandered around the night view of Chang'an in the Journey to the West world before reluctantly returning to Earth. Time, which had been frozen, continued to flow, as if she had just had a very short dream.
She also kept in mind Wei Zheng's instructions before his departure.
"After Master Xuanzang returned from his pilgrimage, he promoted Mahayana Buddhism in and around Chang'an. He set aside the Ghost Festival (Zhongyuan Festival) as the day to hold a Water and Land Dharma Assembly to worship the Buddha and monks, to help the deceased be reborn in the Pure Land, and to relieve the suffering of the six realms."
His Majesty was overjoyed and invited eminent monks from all over the land to a banquet and lecture at Huasheng Temple. His Majesty then led his civil and military officials, riding in a phoenix-carriage and dragon-drawn chariot, out of the Golden Palace and personally went to Huasheng Temple to offer incense, worship Buddha, and pay homage to the Arhats.
On that day, the gates of hell will open wide, and many wandering souls from the underworld will flood into Chang'an. Temples will also offer vegetarian meals. If Little Immortal just wants to join in the fun, then he can wait until two days later when Master Xuanzang of Huasheng Temple is giving a sermon. However, he will have to go early, and he won't be able to see very clearly.
I observe that Master Xu possesses excellent culinary skills. Why not take advantage of the Water and Land Ritual to offer some vegetarian dishes and food, thus accumulating good karma for his soul to enjoy in the underworld.
After saying this, Wei Zheng, along with his granddaughter Jiao Nu, drove the ghost chariot through the wall and disappeared like a wisp of green smoke.
...
Xu Milu remembered Wei Zheng's words and decided to take advantage of this time to prepare some vegetarian dishes on Earth. Then, she planned to take advantage of the Tang Taizong's Buddhist ceremony during the Water and Land Ritual to see if she could meet the monk Xuanzang in person.
The problem is that even after learning cooking from Cui Shengguo for so long, she's still just a novice. She has some experience in making meat dishes, but not so much in making vegetarian dishes.
Sure enough, she was scolded by Choi Seung-guk as soon as she mentioned her idea of practicing vegetarian cooking:
"Vegetarian dishes? You haven't even mastered the cooking technique yet. You want to fly before you can walk? Have you even finished pounding the tofu? How many eggs do you break a day while practicing your strength? Can you replace them with raw eggs?"
He mistakenly thought Xu Milu was greedy, so he patiently explained:
"Braising meat is simple, and so is cooking vegetables. But without more than ten years of experience, it's impossible to make delicious vegetables. The worst thing you can do when learning to cook is to try to do too much at once. You have to build a solid foundation. Look at your senior brother, he specializes in vegetables, and he's only just made a name for himself after all these decades. You're still young and have great talent, so take your time."
Xu Milu couldn't explain to him that the Water and Land Dharma Assembly was to be held in the Journey to the West world in less than four days, and she was being forced into this role at the last minute.
The Water and Land Dharma Assembly was a grand event. Just the vegetarian food at Huasheng Temple was so delicious it could make one's tongue tingle, not to mention the vegetarian dishes offered by many other families.
She had no confidence that she could compete with the chefs at the temple in making vegetarian dishes.
Some people may spend their whole lives studying how to make vegetarian dishes taste better, while she has only been in the kitchen for a few days. How can she compare to them in terms of vegetarian cooking skills?
Therefore, if Xu Milu wants to stand out among many exquisite vegetarian dishes, she can only win by using unique ingredients and cooking methods.
"I just had this idea on a whim, I wanted to do some research. Don't worry, I definitely won't neglect my important business. I haven't learned how to make the pan-fried pork ribs that you taught me yet."
Seeing his little apprentice's dejected look, Choi Seung-guk twitched his eyelids and gently tapped the back of her head:
“You’re too honest, kid. If it were Mingyu, he would have been messing around behind my back long ago. If you just want to do some research, go find Haiqiao. He has a vegetarian menu that he doesn’t show to anyone. Just tell him that I asked you to ask him for it.”
Xu Milu instantly perked up.
Speaking of her senior brother, he was quite a figure. He became an apprentice of Cui Shengguo when he was a teenager, and when he was in his twenties, he began to specialize in vegetarian cuisine. He opened his first restaurant with this skill.
Cui Shengguo once said that if we're just comparing the skills of making vegetarian dishes, Ning Haiqiao is definitely one of the best in the country.
So this is the benefit of having connections!
...
...
Xu Milu already had the WeChat contacts of several senior students. The day after the giant delicious mushrooms arrived, she sent them out by different trucks according to the address Li Ning had given her. She even sent one to Cui Mingjue, who was in seclusion to prepare for the competition.
When they became disciples, the eldest disciple, Ning Haiqiao, gave them the thickest red envelope, which shows how wealthy he was.
The WeChat call connected quickly, and a man of about fifty years old with gray hair appeared on the other end of the line. He looked somewhat plump, with a round face, and appeared quite well-off.
"Junior Sister, what brings you here?"
It wasn't that he had a problem with Xu Milu, it's just that Ning Haiqiao was always decisive and straightforward.
