Chapter 12 Who Misjudged?

It was Saturday, and Xu Milu originally wanted to stay in bed, but unexpectedly she felt energetic and not sleepy at all, so she got up.

Liu Hongmei went to the breakfast stall early. There were only two children in the family, Xu Milu and Xu Minian, so she was in charge of making breakfast for her younger brother today.

I fried two eggs, crispy on the bottom and tender on the top, then took some slices of steamed bread from the refrigerator and steamed them. I also took a clove of pickled garlic from the sauerkraut jar in the corner of the kitchen, and added a bowl of black needle grass and seaweed soup. That's it for dinner.

"Sis, you're up so early? Hehehe."

After washing up, Xu Minian sat down at the table, picked up a slice of steamed bun, took a bite, and mumbled:

"Don't forget, my classmate Liu Xing and his dad are coming over to see the fish today. I haven't told Mom yet. Liu Xing and his dad are driving over in a bit. His dad really loves fish. Last time we went to his house, we saw that his dad had a special room for raising fish. It was really beautiful."

Xu Minian peeled open a clove of pickled garlic and crunched it loudly. It was pickled by Liu Hongmei last month, and it tasted just right now.

"Now there are all kinds of things to play with. I have a senior who likes to keep snakes. Since the school dormitory doesn't allow keeping snakes, she rents a place outside to live."

Xu Milu, this senior, is considered quite a big shot at their school. She always carries a red bucket while walking around the playground, and no one knows what she's doing with it.

Until a guy from the School of Economic Law came up to chat her up, he watched in disbelief as an enormous lizard crawled out of the senior's bucket...

The person fainted on the spot.

From that moment on, that senior sister became famous overnight.

...

...

Around 10 o'clock, Xu Minian's classmate called, his tone unusually familiar:

"Hey Fatty, which building do you live in? All the houses here look the same."

Xu Minian scolded in an annoyed tone:

“These are all family housing buildings, so they’re all pretty much the same. Do you think you own a detached house? Building 3, 502, hurry up and come up. Just drive in, I’ll go down and show you the way.”

The Xu family lived in a staff apartment building that had been in disrepair for years. There was no elevator, and even the only security guard was an old man with no teeth.

Xu Minian went down and soon brought up two people. One was a middle-aged man with a square face, thick lips, and a beer belly that gave him the air of a nouveau riche.

The tall boy behind him smiled shyly, completely unlike his playful self on the phone just moments before.

"Hello, sister. I'm Liu Xing. This is my dad. You can just call him Lao Liu."

The middle-aged man was very imposing, and he glared at his son with fierce eyes:

"You have no manners!"

He then turned to Xu Milu with a smile and said:

"You're Xiao Xu, right? I'm Liu Qifeng, this kid's dad. Just call me Uncle Liu. I've often heard my son Xiao Xing talk about your Mi Nian. The two kids play together all the time, and I've been wanting to pay you a visit for a while now. Hehe, I heard you got into Sichuan University of Political Science and Law? That's a good school."

Xu Milu quickly welcomed them in, smiling politely:

"Uncle Liu, you're too kind. I've often heard Mi Nian mention Xiao Xing, and I'm so glad to finally meet her today—I'll be graduating this September."

"Hehe, that's great. You can start working right after graduation. Everyone from your school is an elite. You have a bright future ahead of you."

Liu Qifeng gestured for Liu Xing to bring over what he was carrying: a large box of beautifully packaged zongzi (sticky rice dumplings), a box of salted duck eggs, and a fruit basket—the gifts weren't expensive, but they were the kind that couldn't be faulted.

Xu Milu took the things and knew what Liu Qifeng had come for. She told Xu Minian to wash the fruit while she went to the room to get the turtle tank that Xu Minian treasured.

Those four fish are really easy to keep alive. They've been in the turtle tank for so many days and they're still full of energy. They even eat the cheapest fish food that costs 1.5 yuan a bag with relish.

Upon seeing the unfamiliar faces outside the tank, the four fish eagerly bumped against the transparent tank wall, their silky tails floating in the water, creating shimmering waves.

When Liu Qifeng saw the four fish of different colors, his eyes were glued to them as if they were stuck there.

"Xiao Xu, you, you're just keeping fish in this tank? Oh my god, how could you keep fish in a stagnant tank? There's no air pump, and it's not a planted tank. You can't even guarantee the basic water quality!"

His expression was one of extreme anguish, as if Xu Milu had committed some heinous crime:

"Look at these four fish... sigh!"

Liu Xing, standing to the side, was already used to it:

"Sister, don't worry about my dad. That's just how he is. He's obsessed with fish. Others love flowers, but he loves fish. This time, he saw Xu Minian's post on WeChat Moments and insisted on coming to see it for himself."

Liu Qifeng blushed, his face flushed after his son exposed his secret, but he still wouldn't take his eyes off the turtle tank. He stared at it for a long time but couldn't figure it out, so he turned to Xu Milu and asked:

"Xiao Xu, is this some new species? I haven't heard of it recently. It looks a bit like a mosaic, but it also looks a bit like a snake king... hiss..."

Xu Milu simply thought the fish was pretty and casually picked it up from the Gourmet Dimension. She really didn't know what connection this fish had with the guppies on Earth. Even the system's assessment of it was quite simple and straightforward:

[Multicolored mixed fish: Non-toxic, edible.]

"I don't know how to keep fish. I just bought them because they look nice. As for the species, I really don't know."

Xu Milu reached out her hand, and the four small fish immediately circled around her, swimming up and down with her movements.

Liu Qifeng stared wide-eyed:

"This fish is friendly? It's very resilient, and it's not a dyed fry. Dyed fry wouldn't be this healthy. Hmm... Little Xu, would you mind if your uncle took a picture and asked?"
