Dragons have always seemed to have a strange habit of collecting treasures. Whether it's the giant dragons in Western mythology or the dragon species in Eastern legends, they are always synonymous with "wealth".
Xu Milu followed Prince Moang and his party to the Dragon Palace Treasury. The exterior of the treasury was built in a very low-key manner, with an inconspicuous gray coral rockery, and many shrimp soldiers and crab generals guarding it with long swords.
Prince Moang took out a golden token from his waist and said to the shrimp soldiers and crab generals guarding the gate:
"I, the Crown Prince, have been ordered by my father to bring this fairy Xu to the treasure vault to select three treasures. Open the door immediately, there is no time to lose!"
The shrimp soldiers guarding the gate received the token and said repeatedly, "So it's the Crown Prince. May I ask which of the four treasure vaults, A, B, C, and D, Your Highness wishes to open?"
Moang pondered for a moment, then smiled and asked Xu Milu, "Little Fairy Xu, these four treasure vaults, A, B, C, and D, contain fine silks and brocades, magical robes and immortal silks; obtaining even one piece can protect you. Vault C contains gold, silver, jade, pearls, and other treasures, a vast wealth within. Vault B contains elixirs and rare immortal medicines; consuming them can prolong life. As for Vault A—"
He explained with a smile, "The treasure vault is full of ice-blade magic treasures and immortal cultivation techniques. Little fairy, you have been cultivating with the Great Sage, so you must be very knowledgeable. My father will give you three treasures in exchange for your 'Dragon King's Birthday Banquet Picture.' I wonder which treasure vault you would like to visit first?"
"I've heard that the sea tribes are incredibly wealthy, and even the Great Sage's weapons come from the sea. I'd like to see for myself. There are also some rare and precious medicines that I may not recognize. Please lead the way, Your Highness."
Xu Milu chose the two treasure vaults, A and B, without hesitation. What she lacked most right now were weapons for self-defense and cultivation techniques. Gold, silver, jade, and silk were just mundane things to her.
Moang glanced at her with some surprise, but did not say anything to remind her. He led her to the Jiazi Treasure Vault first.
The Dragon King's treasures were indeed well-deserved. The shelves were filled with all kinds of weapons, including knives, spears, swords, halberds, axes, halberds, hooks, and forks, all neatly arranged on the shelves. There were also countless jade slips containing cultivation techniques, arranged one by one in a staggered and intertwined manner.
At first glance, this treasure trove seemed to stretch endlessly. Xu Milu even suspected that if no one had guided her, she would probably have gotten lost for ten or fifteen days.
"Little fairy, please choose for yourself. These are all my father's treasures. There are also staff techniques, sword techniques, whip techniques, and hammer techniques."
Moang took a long, fiery red whip from a nearby display shelf and said with a smile:
"This 'Evil Dragon Whip' was made by the Antarctic Immortal after he subdued the evil dragon in the mountains, taking its skin and bones. Because the dragon had some magical power, this whip carries a faint sense of lightning when it is wielded, making it extremely suitable for women to cultivate."
Xu Milu admired it for a while, then shook her head:
"Although whip practice is graceful and agile, it is about using skill to strike with force. No, no."
Moang then picked up a small, gleaming sword from the side and said with a smile:
"This 'Cold-Light Double-Edged Sword' was forged by the master swordsmith Ou Yezi using the essence of the East Sea, the iron of the South Sea, the water of the West Sea, and the mud of the North Sea. When used, it gleams with a cold light, the blade moves with the wind, and it is extremely agile."
Xu Milu overheard this and her gaze suddenly fell on a dusty knife in the corner.
It was a beautifully crafted Tang Dynasty sword with auspicious cloud and bird patterns on its scabbard. On the hilt, two red birds of unknown species seemed to be about to take flight.
The knife was about three feet and three inches long and about a finger's width wide. Its blade was a bright red, like glass, and faintly radiated a fiery aura. The moment Xu Milu picked it up, it seemed as if a clear bird's chirp rang out.
Seeing how much she liked the knife, Moang understood what was going on and said with a smile:
"This sword is called the 'Vermilion Bird Yin-Yang Sword'. Five hundred years ago, two Vermilion Birds descended to the mortal realm and caused trouble. They were captured by an earth immortal and thrown into an alchemy furnace to be refined for forty-nine days. The two birds then transformed into this Yin-Yang sword. This sword is extremely beautiful. My daughter once asked my father for it, but unfortunately, this sword is of the fire element and is not very suitable for her."
"Then I'll take this knife."
Xu Milu liked it more and more as she looked at it. Although she had a dagger given to her by Sunny for self-defense, in this Tang Dynasty of gods and demons, she still needed a proper weapon for self-defense.
"Alright, there's also a corresponding set of the Vermilion Bird Sword Technique. Little Fairy, you can take it with you."
Moang thought Xu Milu was attracted by the beauty of the sword, but little did he know that Xu Milu was actually attracted by its properties.
She was originally a little phoenix, so isn't this fire-attribute sword a perfect match for her?
With the Vermilion Bird Yin-Yang Blade and the Vermilion Bird Blade Technique, Xu Milu's trip was worthwhile. When Prince Moang asked her to choose elixirs and herbs, she quickly looked through them and picked out a small peach that was only a hundred years old.
After all, when you've made a profit, knowing when to stop is the best policy.
...
...
Xu Milu returned to the main hall with a bountiful harvest. The guests were still admiring the painting "Dragon King's Birthday Banquet". The guests were in high spirits, and the old Dragon King Ao Run was beaming with joy.
Sun Wukong, now sober, privately asked her what she had retrieved, his monkey eyes blinking rapidly:
"Your eyes are even sharper than mine, Old Sun's. I'm afraid there's no weapon in the armory more suitable for you than the Vermilion Bird Yin-Yang Blade!"
He then made up an excuse, grabbed Xu Milu, and walked through the water out of the West Sea Dragon Palace, heading straight for Chang'an.
"Great Sage, why are you running in such a hurry? Won't you stay and have a drink a little longer? I don't think the Old Dragon King is that reluctant to part with this sword, could it be—"
Xu Milu understood after a moment's thought:
"Could this knife have some kind of history?"
Sun Wukong had only drunk vegetarian wine and wasn't drunk at all. Now, with the cold wind blowing, his monkey fur was all ruffled and looked like a kiwi.
