They looked very old, with large patches of gray hair under their brown cloaks. What was particularly distressing was that none of the three were physically disabled: one had a blindfold over her eyes, another had a horrific wound on her mouth, and the third was leaning on a wooden cane made from a withered tree trunk.
The combination of a blind girl, a mute, and a cripple is so compelling that it makes one genuinely feel sorry for their plight.
"Tell me, wise god Munir, please tell me the story of this continent!"
The mute girl strummed the instrument in her arms, while the blind girl sang a low, mournful song:
"My believers, my children, my servants, the gods of this continent are as great as the stars in the sky... Light and darkness fell in love, giving birth to the sky, the earth, and the sea~"
"The sky molded dragons in its own image, the earth created humans in its own image, and the ocean, using itself as a mirror, created mermaids and sea monsters..."
"...The great Earth Goddess and the Water God fell in love, and the name of their son spread throughout the continent: forests, harvests, and sacrifices; they brought elves, orcs, and fairies..."
"Donglang—"
The music shifted downwards, and the lame woman, her gaze calm, joined her sisters' singing softly:
"Oh, darkness and light give birth to death and awakening. These twin brothers love the world so much. The former brings pain, poverty, hunger, slaughter, and disease to the continent, while the latter brings happiness, wealth, sustenance, peace, and magic—"
"After the gods fell into slumber, the hero's sword pierced the chest of the dragon god Oset. The humans of this continent actually plunged their swords into the heart of the earth goddess's beloved son... The dragon god sleeps in Grieri, and its soul travels to the realm of the gods... The wise gods issue a divine decree that the god of the sky is about to awaken. He is filled with immense pain and vows to make humanity pay for its blood debt..."
Please begin anywhere; humanity will die from its arrogance, from its folly, from its recklessness…
The sky and earth will soon be enveloped in crimson blood, at which point golden flames will burn across the land, washing away all sin and evil...
A god from another world will descend upon the mortal realm, and raging flames will rebuild a great kingdom with a new order!
Xu Milu listened attentively. When she came to her senses, she found that Fanny had already finished the food on her plate, and the little girl was staring longingly at the cheese and smoked sausage on the table.
She waved to the proprietress.
"Another steak set meal, please, with an extra slice of blue cheese. Oh, and the drinks for those three poets are on me."
The proprietress squeezed out of the crowd and, upon hearing this, couldn't help but burst out laughing:
"Another unlucky guy who got tricked by the Denise sisters! They've lived here for over a decade, and every time a newcomer from out of town comes along, they invite them for drinks. They sing a prophecy from two hundred years ago, and nobody takes it seriously anymore!"
A prophecy from two hundred years ago?
Xu Milu nodded to indicate that she understood, but still placed three large copper coins down as payment for the wine:
"What a delightful evening, isn't it? For West Cole County—"
