Xu Milu never expected that Puka would rather sacrifice lives than give up the profits he had already gained, and that he would so easily disregard the lives of more than a dozen people.
Seemingly noticing her gaze, Puka suddenly turned to her and gave her a gentlemanly smile:
"Miss Milu, perhaps you can leave with us."
"No, I think it's safer to walk alone."
Xu Milu cautiously refused, not understanding why Pukate wanted to take her along, but also knowing that the other party must have ill intentions.
"Don't look at me like that. I pay them, and they risk their lives for us. It's a fair deal, isn't it?"
Puka laughed and said, "Then I wish you good luck. I look forward to our next meeting, Miss Milu."
Xu Milu's gaze fell on Vera behind him, the large backpack in her arms particularly eye-catching.
"Brother, I'm ready to leave here!"
Vera grabbed Puka's arm and glared fiercely at Xu Milu:
"She's just an ordinary person. If she wants to stay here to feed the mastiffs, why bring her along?"
Xu Milu didn't indulge her either, and gave a fake smile:
"I think it's more likely that Miss Vera is fed to the bears, after all, I didn't steal anyone's child and keep it for myself."
"You! You lowly commoner! Do you even know I am the future Baroness?!"
Vera immediately started cursing.
Xu Milu had been bullied a lot since childhood because she grew up in a single-parent family, which had honed her sharp tongue. Her retorts came naturally:
"The future Baroness, huh? Why don't you go down there and tell those bear-dogs you're a Baroness? Maybe they'll bite you less. Don't worry, when you get bitten, I'll be sitting here happily watching the show."
"You insolent woman!!! Jimmy, throw her down there!"
Vera's fierce and aggressive demeanor resembled that of a crab that was all bark and no bite. Jimmy remained silent, for the first time not echoing the young lady's words.
"Jimmy, are you deaf?!"
Vera was enraged, and Puka, who was extremely impatient, grabbed her hand, threw it aside, and slapped her hard across the face.
"Shut up, are you trying to kill me? If you still want to be your baroness, then shut up! Otherwise, I don't mind throwing you down there to feed the bear dogs right now."
Vera stared incredulously, covering her burning cheeks, tears streaming down her face.
"I...I am the future Baroness...How dare you...How dare you hit me..."
"If it weren't for your face, do you really think Father would acknowledge you as his illegitimate daughter? If you want to go back alive, you'd better learn to shut up."
Puka threw down a threat and turned to leave, preparing to break through, leaving Vera behind, who looked completely dazed.
...
...
The mercenary team's breakout plan was simple and brutal: Jimmy, carrying the urine of the bear mastiff puppies, would lure away most of the bear mastiffs, while Puka and his sister, along with Jimmy, would take the opportunity to break out and find the carriage in the valley. The remaining mercenaries would cover their retreat to ensure Puka and his sister's successful breakout.
Jimmy, carrying a large backpack full of tattered rags, ran westward at breakneck speed. The uneven hills seemed to turn into flat ground before him. He was like an incredibly agile ape, using vines to gain leverage in the mountains.
"roar!"
"Roar! Roar roar roar!!"
As expected, many of the bear mastiffs were captivated by the smell and chased after him like madmen, leaving only a dozen or so bear mastiffs guarding the spot.
Hundreds of Mastiffs followed Jimmy in a grand procession, and Puka's face showed a hint of joy:
"Great! It worked!"
The little mastiff had been moved to another small bag and securely tied to Vera's chest.
"Jimmy won't last much longer. We must seize the time to break through and take good care of the Mastiff puppies."
Puka drew his long sword, glanced at Vera, and leaped down from behind the rock:
"Come with me!"
The remaining mercenaries followed Puka straight down the cliff. The bear-dogs guarding the bottom of the cliff barked wildly and pounced on them, their thick paws slamming down with a pungent, bloody stench.
"Roar!!"
"Roar—"
"Roar roar roar!"
"laugh--"
"laugh--"
The sounds of weapons clashing against flesh filled the air as the mercenary squad fought fiercely against the bear-dog, but they were clearly no match for the ferocious beast. They could only hold out for a moment before gradually losing ground.
"Roar!!"
"Roar roar roar!"
"Roar!!"
The mastiffs that had chased Jimmy away returned for some reason. The lead mastiff had a deep white "V" shaped stripe of fur around its neck and looked a whole size bigger than the other mastiffs.
"Aww—"
It roared to the sky, and a vast army of bear-mastiff dogs surged into the valley, heading straight for Puka and his companions!
"Damn it! How could it be so fast?! What on earth is Jimmy doing?!"
Puka plunged a knife into the chest of a Mastiff, his eyes flashing with ferocity.
"Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!!"
The wildebeest wagon left in the valley yesterday was still there. Vera took the lead and rushed forward, pulling on the reins. The tall wildebeest, with its muzzle neighing, was about to turn tail and run for its life.
"Vera! What are you waiting for?! Come and get me!!"
Puka spun around, narrowly dodging an attack from a Mastiff, panting heavily as he cursed:
"Damn it! What are you waiting for?!"
Unexpectedly, Vera gave him a cold look, revealing a malicious glint in her eyes:
"No one can look down on me! Puka, you stay here and feed the bear mastiffs!"
She raised her whip and lashed it hard across the wildebeest's back. The horse, in pain, reared up and galloped wildly!
No one expected this scene, not even Xu Milu, who was standing on the cliff.
What a show!
Her jaw almost dropped.
This family is a perfect match!
When the brother cold-bloodedly buys his way to safety, and the sister disregards his life or death, this is truly a "loving family"...
"You bastard!!!! How dare you!!!"
Puka's eyes were bloodshot, but the rolling wildebeest chariot said it all. But the next second, he had no chance to curse anymore.
"Oh no!!!"
"Help me!"
"Help me!! I don't want to die!!"
"Captain, save me!!!"
—The surging army of bear mastiffs overwhelmed several people, and even Puka was not spared. He was swallowed up by the swarming bear mastiffs and soon fell silent.
