Xu Milu stayed in Huaguo Mountain for more than a month. In the blink of an eye, it was summer. If she hadn't remembered to ask the crane to deliver the message, Mo Xuan and A Chou, who stayed in Chang'an, would probably have thought she had disappeared.
She was sitting cross-legged on a large swing made of vines, meditating, when several clever and obedient golden monkeys flew over, swinging on the vines.
The monkeys squeaked and squeaked, presenting her with a large handful of fruit, their eyes full of anticipation.
The bright yellow loquats are round and plump, the pale red wild cherries are no bigger than a fingertip, and the purple wild grapes are distinct, each one covered with a bit of bloom.
The fruits were all washed clean in the mountain spring and brought over, held in fresh lotus leaves, with a few half-open pink lotus flowers placed beside them. Just looking at them reminded one of the refreshing lotus pond, which shows how thoughtful the monkeys were.
"Loquats are already here at this time of year? Huaguo Mountain is truly a wonderful place."
Xu Milu picked up a loquat, peeled it, and took a bite. Although the fruit was still slightly sour, she could already taste the sweetness that comes with ripeness.
Seeing Xu Milu eat, the monkeys seemed to have received some kind of reward, jumping around happily and making strange noises:
"Squeak—squeak—"
"Squeak! Squeak!"
"Squeak...squeak!"
The monkeys playing nearby all looked at the three lucky creatures with envy. When a little monkey tried to get close to Xu Milu, the three monkeys would bar their teeth and hiss, showing a fierce expression to drive away the other monkeys that tried to curry favor.
A black baboon tried to approach Xu Milu, but was defeated by three monkeys working together—monkeys fight with deadly ferocity, their claws striking flesh and drawing blood, leaving the arena filled with flying monkey hair.
"Squeak squeak squeak—squeak ...!!"
"Squeak, squeak, squeak!!"
The monkeys nearby didn't run away; instead, they squatted down and watched the excitement. When they saw something interesting, they would squeak and chirp to cheer it on.
Xu Milu had gotten used to it. At first, she wanted to stop him, but later she found that Sun Wukong was too lazy to care, so she stopped interfering in the monkeys' internal conflicts.
The hierarchy within the monkey troop is quite strict. The monkey king protects all directions, so the monkey king's descendants also enjoy the best treatment and care. They not only enjoy the sweetest fruits, but also have countless monkey servants following them.
Therefore, Xu Milu, as a disciple of the Monkey King, held a special position in the monkey troop, and many monkeys regarded her as a descendant of the Monkey King.
In addition, she brought novel seeds, which saved the monkeys a lot of trouble and danger in finding food. The monkeys admired her strength and naturally supported Xu Milu.
[Host, this is very valuable for research. Monkeys support the alpha male because he can fight off enemies when danger comes, but when the alpha male gets old, the troop will abandon him without hesitation. In this pursuit of self-interest, monkeys are very similar to humans.]
Xiaoqi has started studying human nature again:
[If two alpha males exist in a small monkey society, the monkeys will still choose the more powerful one. See, they react to your praise; it's quite interesting.]
"It's not fun at all, okay?"
Xu Milu said helplessly, "You seem to have overlooked one point. I'm not a real monkey, and having a few more monkey followers isn't something to be happy about—besides, my master is in good health, and I reckon he can outlive all these monkeys and their offspring."
The dimensional jump system is Xu Milu's biggest secret, so she basically doesn't communicate with Xiao Qi in front of Sun Wukong.
She took a proper break for herself this month. The seeds she brought were planted near Flower Fruit Mountain. The monkeys had their own wisdom for survival, so she didn't need to worry about them anymore.
Xu Milu eats fresh wild fruits found by the monkeys and drinks sweet mountain spring water. Above her is the Water Curtain Cave, a blessed land full of spiritual energy, and below her are tall trees and grass nests where she can live a carefree life. She doesn't need to interact with people or think about anything else; it's simply a paradise on earth.
If it weren't for a lot of other things to take care of, Xu Milu would have liked to stay here for a year or two.
The white-haired baboon walked over, its body hunched over, and it was leaning on a cane.
"Cough, cough, what's all this strange talk? Go away, don't disturb your rest, Your Majesty! Your Majesty requests your presence!"
...
...
"What? Master, you're saying that the Golden-Winged Roc is my ancestor?"
After carefully processing the information Sun Wukong had given her, Xu Milu couldn't help but start to question the meaning of life.
Others may not know, but doesn't she know?
She's at most a phoenix transformed from a half-demon; tracing back to her origins, she's a pure human.
When did this golden-winged roc suddenly appear and become her ancestor?
Sun Wukong held a small monkey in his arms, with four or five more hanging from his shoulders and back. He showed no impatience, lifting them one by one by the scruff of their necks and placing them on the ground before slowly saying:
“Yes! I asked the Bodhisattva, and the Bodhisattva said that you do have some connection with the Golden-Winged Roc. It is said that four hundred years ago, the Golden-Winged Roc lost a fire phoenix cub. That fire phoenix was favored by the Peacock King, and the Roc even fought a battle with the Peacock King for it, almost crashing into Mount Ling. You are probably a descendant of that lost fire phoenix.”
Xu Milu was about to retort when she suddenly remembered something and simply nodded:
"Thank you for your concern, Master. I understand. But did the Bodhisattva say where the fire phoenix is now?"
Since these words came from the Bodhisattva, they must be true. In the vast universe, Xu Milu could only think of one phoenix who shared the same bloodline as her.
Sun Wukong patiently pulled the little monkey crawling all over him off, scratched his head, and said:
