Chapter 3 Black Needle Herb Egg Drop Soup

After being in the bag for two hours, the small bunch of grass showed no signs of drying out at all; it looked as fresh and tender as if it had just been pulled from the ground.

Xu Milu looked closely and found that the grass was not completely black; the area near the roots was a light cream color, and there was no sap when she pressed it gently.

You can smell the fragrance of grass, and it looks no different from the most ordinary grass on Earth, delicate and harmless.

No matter how stupid Xu Milu was, she wouldn't personally test the poison herself. She found a cardboard box, grabbed a chicken from the henhouse, and plucked a handful of grass, placing it in front of the unfortunate hen.

"Coo-coo—coo-coo—cluck-cluck—"

The hen tilted her head and poked at the blade of grass with her claws for a long time before finally pecking at it with her beak.

Xu Milu stared at the hen for a long time, then took a few more blades of grass and put them in the cardboard box. The hen pecked at the grass and finished eating, its beady green eyes fixed on her, as if it wanted some more.

"Coo coo—"

"Coo coo—"

"Sorry, I had to use you as a test subject."

Xu Milu solemnly clasped her hands together, locked the experimental chicken in a separate room, and decided to wait and see.

...

...

"This is so annoying! I'm all better, why am I still in the hospital? I've been closed for two days already, hurry up and get discharged... do you hear me?!"

As soon as Xu Milu entered the ward, she heard Liu Hongmei cursing Sun Zhi in a low voice, while Sun Zhi tried to reason with her in a gentle tone:

"Oh, just wait a little longer, just wait a little longer."

"Didn't you hear what the doctor said? You need to rest and recover properly. Why are you still running a shop? Do you still want to take painkillers?"

Xu Milu walked in, saying irritably.

Upon seeing her daughter arrive, Liu Hongmei's tone unconsciously softened:

"You can recuperate at home, why go to the hospital? Hospitalization costs two hundred a day, do you have too much money to burn or what?"

"Oh dear, the doctor said you need to rest, can't you just rest properly?"

Sun Zhi was completely at his wit's end and winked at Xu Milu for help.

Xu Milu, with a long face, pressed Liu Hongmei, who was struggling to get out of bed, back down: "Stay put and behave. As for going back to open the shop, don't even think about it."

Liu Hongmei didn't dare to cause a scene and leave the hospital when her daughter was truly angry, so she could only eat the apple that Sun Zhi had peeled for her with a stern face.

"Uncle Sun, you should go home first. I came to see my mother today. You probably haven't been sleeping well these past two days, so go home and catch up on your sleep."

Xu Milu called Xu Minian and asked him to stay at her aunt's house tonight, then told Sun Zhi to go home first.

Sun Zhi used to be a driving instructor, but now he drives a taxi. He probably hasn't had a proper rest these past few days while taking care of Liu Hongmei.

Xu Milu secretly made a note of it, then helped Liu Hongmei to the restroom before going downstairs to buy food.

In just one afternoon, two more people moved into the ward. Perhaps due to a shortage of beds, a man in his forties or fifties was admitted, which made the other female patients in the ward feel somewhat awkward.

Even though Liu Hongmei didn't say anything, Xu Milu knew she wasn't feeling well. The man was separated from her by a curtain, so Xu Milu could only sit at the foot of the bed. Even Liu Hongmei had difficulty getting out of bed.

But there's nothing she can do. If she finds it inconvenient, there are plenty of double and single rooms available, but they're ridiculously expensive, costing five or six hundred a night. Even if her family had the money, Liu Hongmei wouldn't agree to let her stay there.

Liu Hongmei's medication contained painkillers, and she felt sleepy after taking it. Xu Milu, worried that she wouldn't sleep comfortably, asked the nurse for a small stool and sat at the foot of the bed, watching the last IV drip of the night, ready to call the nurse to remove the needle at any moment.

At 10 o'clock, after the nurse removed Liu Hongmei's IV, she immediately turned off the lights in the ward, and the family members went to sleep in other rooms.

Logically, this shouldn't be allowed, but by paying the nurses a small fee, they wouldn't have to sit all night.

Xu Milu didn't understand any of this, so she just sat on the stool and played on her phone with Liu Hongmei by herself all night.

When Sun Zhi woke her up in a daze, she realized that her legs had gone numb.

Xu Milu went to the bathroom to wash her face and saw that it was only 7:30. She was thinking about the hen in the yard that had eaten the black grass, so she didn't go home and went straight to the yard.

...

...

When the chicken coop was opened, the hen was startled awake and flew out of the box with a "fluttering" sound, looking very energetic.

Xu Milu was overjoyed. It seemed that this was not poisonous, so now she could study it properly.

Xu Milu carefully cut open the stem of the black grass and found that the grass was hollow like a needle. After cutting it open, a milky white sap seeped out. If you rub it with your hand and smell it, you can smell a strange and strong fragrance.

Xu Milu felt like she had smelled this scent somewhere before, but she just couldn't remember where.

"Where have I smelled this before...?" Xu Milu wondered.

Although she couldn't recall what the familiar taste was, the intense aroma was so tempting that Xu Milu wanted to try it herself.

Xu Milu thought for a moment, then filled the small pot she usually used for boiling milk halfway with water, threw in the half-cut grass, and decided to boil it first. Whether it was poisonous or not, high-temperature sterilization was always a good idea.

Once the half-cut grass entered the water, it was like a small boat tossing and turning in the ocean, but its fragrance became even more intense and captivating.

Xu Milu suddenly realized that this was the taste of seaweed soup! She hadn't recognized it at first because it was too concentrated, but after being diluted with water, it tasted exactly like seaweed soup.

"Woof woof woof!!!! Woof woof woof!!!!"

The delicious aroma wafted from the kitchen into the yard, causing Kaka to jump around and startle the chickens in the coop.
