Chapter 30 Return

Xu Milu's lips twitched incessantly.

Liu Hongmei has finally decided to have surgery and is resting at home for the next few days, with Liu Hongjun naturally accompanying her.

In nearly half a year, with just this small breakfast stall, she not only earned enough to cover the surgery fees, but also paid off most of the family's debts. In the past, Liu Hongmei would never have dared to dream of such a thing.

Especially after Xu Milu returned the 500,000 yuan, she immediately decided to close the breakfast shop and find another way to make a living.

Everyone says that blacksmithing, grinding beans, and sprouting beans are the hardest jobs. Opening a breakfast shop is not easy either. My family agrees, after all, selling breakfast is indeed hard work.

...

...

Local foodies all know that the incredibly delicious breakfast stall at the South Bridgehead has closed down. They initially thought it had gone out of business, but were told that the owner was planning to renovate it.

This news brought tears of joy to many foodies.

What is a surprise?

This is such a pleasant surprise!!

Damn it! Heaven knows why a breakfast stall would impose a purchase limit on eggs. Every day, people have to queue for two hours in advance just to get a taste of that delicious food.

Nobody would believe me if I told them I set several alarms to wake up early every morning, not to go to work, but to grab a few more eggs.

Xu Milu's renovation wasn't for anything else; she planned to open her own food shop, specializing in otherworldly delicacies.

It just so happened that the owner of the struggling mala tang shop next to the breakfast stall quit and went back to his hometown to inherit the family business, which made things convenient for Xu Milu.

While Liu Hongmei was undergoing surgery, Xu Milu took over the adjacent shops and renovated them as well.

Her savings were more than enough to renovate a medium-sized restaurant in this city that wasn't even a first-tier city.

...

...

Today, to celebrate Xu Milu's successful graduation defense, Liu Hongmei spontaneously decided to have a barbecue in the yard.

"Mom, I'm home."

As soon as Xu Milu entered the courtyard, she ran happily into the kitchen and saw Liu Hongmei kneading meatballs while instructing Liu Hongjun on how to fry them.

"You're back! There's some chilled mung bean soup on the table. Put your schoolbag down before you drink it... Oh dear, you need to get these meatballs out of the water. They're all fried and won't keep... Get up. I'll take care of the rice. Let the mung bean soup sit for a bit. Wash your hands and come help me. I'm getting anxious watching your aunt work..."

Seeing that Liu Hongjun had fried the meatballs until they were burnt, Liu Hongmei wished she could do it herself.

"I can see it now, you two are ostracizing me."

Liu Hongjun pouted, then stepped aside and let Xu Milu take the long chopsticks. She watched resentfully as Xu Milu and Liu Hongmei worked together seamlessly, one kneading the meatballs while the other deftly dropped them into the pot, scooping them out one by one to drain the oil.

"No way, I just didn't want you to get tired, Auntie, so I took over."

Xu Milu chuckled.

Liu Hongmei and Liu Hongjun learned their skills from their maternal grandfather. Liu Hongmei has mastered everything from steaming buns and dumplings to making gravy and steaming rice noodles.

As for Liu Hongjun, she can manage with home-style cooking, but when it comes to elaborate dishes like fried meatballs and braised pork strips that require precise control of the heat, she can't do them and can only come to her sister's house to freeload.

Hao Chen poked his head in, looking completely innocent:

"Auntie, please make extra meatballs for our family after you've fried them. My mom doesn't know how to cook them. They're always either raw or burnt, so they're inedible."

"Go away, go away! Your mom can't cook, but I still raised you to be this tall, okay? Don't be ungrateful. Look at how many kids want to eat their mother's cooking but can't get it. Besides, my meatballs weren't that bad, were they..."

Liu Hongjun patted Hao Chen's head, somewhat displeased.

Hao Chen quickly pinched one of the fried meatballs Xu Milu had made, put it in his mouth, and mumbled indistinctly:

"Come on, that plate of meatballs you fried last time, they were all black and burnt. I took them to feed the cats in the neighborhood, and they just sat there for three days and not a single cat dared to eat them."

The kitchen erupted in laughter, filled with a joyful atmosphere.

With her family by her side, Xu Milu finally felt that her feet were firmly planted on solid ground.
