Chapter 308 Treating Money Like Dust

Perhaps because that city wall isolated the Ghost Kingdom from the outside world, the Ghost Kingdom's architectural style is close to primitive. They build treehouses in big trees. Some like to decorate the treehouses with all kinds of gorgeous gems and gold, while others are not so particular. From a distance, they look like magpie nests growing in the trees.

“I live on the ground, this is my nest. Their nests are all ugly, not as pretty as mine.”

She proudly straightened up, her long snake tail swaying left and right, as if showing off as she introduced her nest to Xu Milu.

She was the first woman from the Ghost Kingdom to speak to Xu Milu, and her name was quite simple and straightforward, consisting of only one character – “Di”.

Rather than calling it her name, it's more accurate to say it's her appellation. For example, "Di" means someone who lives on the ground, and "Shui" means someone who lives by the water. The name "Di" also has variations like "Xiao Di," "Xiao Xiao Di," and "Da Di." Similarly, "Shui" has variations like "Xiao Shui," "Zhong Shui," and "Da Shui."

Xu Milu asked curiously, "What if two people have the same name?"

"In a fight, the one who survives is the 'ground'."

Without hesitation, she answered, and then she swung her snake tail, making her entire snake body stand up to be a full two meters tall.

Looking at the thick snake tail, Xu Milu had no doubt about the fighting power of the Ghost Kingdom people—with such a big tail, a slap could kill the opponent.

She lived next to a swamp, and her nest was indeed different from others. From the outside, it looked like a large, fluffy bird's nest, and you could see that the branches were stuffed with a lot of animal fur.

The treehouse was very generous in inviting Xu Milu to visit it. Xu Milu did not refuse. Instead, she curiously crawled through the narrow opening that could only accommodate one person at a time and began to carefully observe the treehouse.

It's clear that Di put a lot of effort into building the house. First, she used large branches to cover the spine of the nest, then filled the gaps with slightly thicker branches, then added a layer of animal hide, then a layer of fallen leaves, and repeated this process several times. Finally, she filled the gaps with a layer of fine feathers mixed with mud, and thus created a warm little nest.

"I made it myself, it's awesome."

The head stared wide-eyed at Xu Milu, seemingly seeking her approval, and tilted slightly in a somewhat horrifying manner.

"That's really clever. You used animal hides to keep out the rain, and feathers and mud to keep warm. You even dug a drainage ditch outside the door, so that even if there's a heavy rain, the house won't flood."

Xu Milu didn't hold back her praise for the ground. Although the other person didn't quite understand what she said, they still grinned happily, their bright red forked tongues hissing.

"You, the earth likes you very much, you are the earth's friend."

Xu Milu was about to say something else when she suddenly caught a glimpse of light flashing among a pile of stones in the corner. After recognizing the shapes of those "stones," she couldn't help but feel breathless:

What is that?

The creature was somewhat confused, not understanding why its new friend was so excited, but it still glided over and nudged the shiny "stones" with its tail:

"The scales are very itchy. We use a stone to polish the scales, and they will become smooth and shiny. This stone is very good, very hard, and easy to use."

As she spoke, she used her snake tail to curl up one of the stones and rubbed it on the snake scales, demonstrating to Xu Milu how to use the stone.

Of course it's hard!

That's a diamond!

Xu Milu squatted in front of the pile of "stones" and roared silently.

This thing is a natural mineral on Earth called diamond, but it also has another name that is more familiar to people on Earth—rough diamond.

Seeing such a large pile of raw stones being dumped here like garbage, even though Xu Milu wanted to treat money like dirt, she couldn't help but clutch her chest and take a deep breath.

Diamonds!

This is a diamond!

Simply put, diamond is a single-element crystal composed of carbon, formed under high pressure and high temperature conditions deep within the Earth. After being cut and polished, it can radiate an extremely beautiful brilliance.

Although many people believe that the high price of diamonds is simply the result of capital speculation, they still have to admit that diamonds are expensive.

Xu Milu had witnessed the value of this item before. Her college roommate, Zhang Mengmeng, had a diamond ring that her mother bought for her when she came of age. It was a small two-carat diamond with no extra decorations, and the price went straight up to 50,000 yuan.

Although Xu Milu was not familiar with the diamond market, she knew that diamonds have a similar density, and the heavier the diamond, the larger its volume, and the larger the diamond, the rarer it is.

The world's largest diamond, the Cullinan, weighs 3,106.75 carats, about the size of an adult man's fist. To this day, it remains the largest gem-quality diamond ever discovered.

— The diamond cut from the Cullinan diamond is still set in the crown of the Queen of the United Kingdom, becoming a symbol of supreme power.

Xu Milu was willing to bet that the smallest of the pile of rough diamonds in front of her was a size larger than the Cullinan.

Although some of the raw stones were covered in mud, the exposed parts were clear and transparent, and each piece was a different color, such as yellow-orange, light green, light blue, reddish-purple... and even a purplish-red color that is extremely rare on Earth.

She couldn't help but clutch her chest again.

Now I can finally understand how people in the food-themed world feel when they look at instant noodle seasoning packets.

Diamonds, incredibly precious on Earth, are nothing more than bath towels to some people...

The contrast is just too great; my heart can't take it.

...

...

Di couldn't understand why Xu Milu was doing this, and couldn't help but turn his head to look at her. Her round, single eye looked somewhat terrifying.
