Paper figures carried the sedan chair, and little ghosts played music. The eerie, joyful music played, and behind the eight-bearer paper sedan chair, which could hold five or six people, a line of maids with faces as white as paper carried animal heads resembling pig heads, sheep heads, and cow heads, following the red sedan chair. They seemed to float lightly, as if weightless, and from time to time, they would be carried into the sky by gusts of cold wind, scattering yellow paper downwards.
Congratulations to you!
"When the Ghost King takes his bride, all the ghosts retreat—"
"When the king welcomes the bride, all the ghosts retreat—"
Along the roadside were many tiny ghost dolls, barely reaching Xu Milu's knees. Their heads were enormous, and their once rosy faces were covered in purplish-blue bloodstains. Some were tumbling on the ground, while others had their heads ripped off and were playing with them, all chanting a nursery rhyme:
"Hahaha, the Wei family had a daughter named Jiao Nu, who died of a serious illness. Her beauty faded like a fallen leaf, but fortunately, Prime Minister Wei protected her for life. At eighteen, she married the Ghost King, and the couple lived in harmony, their love as poignant as the sound of a zither."
"Hehehe, the Wei family has a daughter named Jiaonu, who died of a serious illness. The beauty fell like a leaf, but fortunately, she was protected by Prime Minister Wei for life and married the Ghost King at the age of eighteen. Hehehe!"
After the song was sung three or four times, the bride inside the sedan chair finally lifted half of the curtain, revealing a delicate face hidden behind a fan:
Even with the eerie white makeup, the bride's delicate and beautiful face was still evident. Her green wedding dress, embroidered with mandarin ducks playing in the water, was briefly visible. The gold ornaments in her hair hung down gracefully, just covering her forehead. Her phoenix eyes were full of the shyness of a bride-to-be.
Xu Milu had a good memory and immediately recognized the woman in the sedan chair as the female ghost she had seen when she first arrived in the Journey to the West world and was riding in a carriage, who was following Wei Zheng.
The female ghost seemed to have noticed Xu Milu standing among the ghosts on the street. Perhaps she felt that Xu Milu was somewhat kind to her, so she simply smiled slightly and lowered the sedan curtain.
The ghosts lining the street surged forward, following the wedding procession with its music and fanfare. More and more ghosts appeared on the street, until finally, ghostly figures flew in the sky, and the street was filled with all sorts of old ghosts dressed in clothing from various dynasties.
"Oh! Time to pick up the bride!"
"The bride is getting married!"
"The bride is getting married! Time to go to the wedding banquet!"
Many ghosts followed the wedding procession to an exquisite mansion. The mansion was eerily quiet, and instead of stone lions, there were a pair of water-repelling golden-eyed beast statues in front of the gate. White lanterns hung from the eaves, and long banners for summoning souls fluttered in the wind. The entire mansion was filled with a ghostly atmosphere.
The fact that the wedding sedan chair had entered this area meant that they were not far from Yin Wenjiao.
Xu Milu loosened her stiff shoulders, turned her head and saw that Mo Xuan had turned into a small black snake and fainted, while Chen Xiang was squatting on the ground, holding half of someone's arm in her hand.
—It's obvious that Mo Xuan, that good-for-nothing, fainted from fright.
"Junior brother, you can't play with this. Put it down quickly, and don't scare your brother Mo Xuan. This thing—it must have been some unlucky guy whose arm was stepped on and ripped off. It's just lying here, so someone will come looking for it... Where's Bai Wuchang?"
Xu Milu rolled up the unconscious Mo Xuan and stuffed him into her sleeve. Turning around, she realized that Bai Wuchang, who had just been there, was also gone. She had no choice but to pull Chen Xiang along to prevent the two of them from being overwhelmed by the surging ghost horde.
Everywhere were demons and monsters celebrating and offering congratulations. The guests arriving for the banquet were noisy and boisterous. Little devils leading horses darted about, their feet dangling precariously. Paper maids, the greeters, chuckled ominously. Boxes of congratulatory gifts were delivered into the mansion like a flowing river, and the air was filled with eerie, ghostly celebratory words.
"What a fortune! What a generous gesture! The Northern Ghost King actually dotes on this Lady Wei so much!"
"It's been many years since we've had such a lively occasion. I heard that this is the judge's daughter's wedding, what a great honor! Prime Minister Wei not only invited Judge Lu from the Investigation Department, but also Judge Cui from the Underworld Law Department!"
"Who is Wei Zheng? Today, all those who are celebrating are famous great demons and Rakshasa. The Great God of the South Sea, the Black Bear General, the Ruyi Immortal of Luofang Mountain, the Ten Rakshasa have come to offer their congratulations, the Ten Kings of Hell, the Six Judges have presented gifts, the remaining three judges have all arrived, and even the Dragon Kings of the Four Seas have sent small gifts. How can the scale be small?"
Xu Milu glanced at the Ghost King's Mansion, then turned to Chen Xiang and asked, "You haven't eaten much since this morning, are you hungry?"
"Um."
Chenxiang nodded obediently and threw the half-arm in his hand onto the ground.
"Senior sister, I'm a little hungry. Shall we go eat?"
"Let's be patient for now, we'll eat after we find Sister Yin—" Xu Milu glanced at the eerie Ghost King's Mansion, then suddenly remembered something and slapped her forehead:
"It seems we're not far from Sister Yin. She made me a sachet the other day; I'll try using my tracking magic to find her—"
She touched a small purse embroidered with wisteria flowers hanging from her waist, made a hand seal with one hand, and chanted incantations. The purse floated up and transformed into a ball of purple light. Then, a thin, soft thread seemed to be drawn out and flew in one of the directions.
"It works! This method only works by using objects to find people, and you can't be too far from the person you're looking for. This place is just right!"
Xu Milu's face lit up with joy. She pulled Chen Xiang along and recited an incantation. She then used a teleportation technique on the spot. When she reappeared, the two of them rolled over in unison, and the environment in front of them changed. They had already appeared at the end of the tangled line.
Who is it?
The next second, bursts of golden Buddha light shone forth, and a majestic and compassionate male voice echoed. An invisible Buddha light shone out, almost blinding her.
Xu Milu couldn't dodge in time. She only had time to push Chen Xiang away before crashing headfirst into the barrier. The moment her head hit it, she swore she heard a crisp "thud".
"ah!!"
