—Even though it's canned meat, it's still meat!
The thrifty shelter residents had already planned ahead. They ate tomatoes every other day. Stir-frying was too wasteful of oil, so the best way to eat them was to cut them into chunks and eat them directly. Some families would even slice large tomatoes into thin slices, air-dry them, and secretly sell them to unregistered residents who couldn't get supplies.
