Within ten minutes, Old Liu, having learned the whole story, sat down calmly, took Cui Shengguo's hand, and they greeted each other as "older brother" and "younger brother," looking like old friends reunited.
"Hey girl, does the old man and this old man... know each other?"
Zhao Jin was also somewhat confused, not understanding what was going on now.
Xu Milu remained unusually calm:
“My maternal grandfather was naturally outgoing and had a silver tongue. Back in the day, he went to a matchmaking event to help the family choose a son-in-law. When he came back, he brought the man he was supposed to meet with him back with him. I call that man my uncle now.”
Zhao Jin listened with admiration: "Old man, you're truly a talent!"
"Dami, stop sitting there and come over here to call someone. This is your Grandpa Cui. He came all the way from Kyoto just for your shop. Take that fish to the kitchen and let your Grandpa Cui take a look."
Old Liu and Cui Shengguo were as close as long-lost brothers. Then, turning to his granddaughter, he whispered:
"Hurry up, I've found out everything. This is a head chef from a high-end restaurant in Kyoto, the kind who rarely uses a knife. When the dishes are served, take lots of videos and give your restaurant some good publicity!"
Xu Milu was speechless.
Well, so the old man was really a cook back then?
Could he be a spy?
Choi Seung-guk was already moved to tears.
"Brother, you trust me so much that you're willing to give me such good ingredients. You're a truly honest person! Don't worry, I definitely won't waste this fish today. I promise I'll use all my best techniques!"
Old Liu turned around and immediately put on the air of a detached, otherworldly sage again:
“We’re all brothers here, right? I trust you to cook with such good ingredients! If you’re having trouble, let my granddaughter help you out. She’s been learning cooking from me for a few years, so she’s at your beck and call.”
Cui Shengguo looked at Xu Milu and squeezed Old Liu's hand tightly:
“I understand what you mean, brother. Seeing such a silver belt today was already a worthwhile trip, but I never expected to actually have the opportunity to handle it myself. It is only right to give the children some pointers.”
Old Liu gave Xu Milu a meaningful smile, one eye saying "try your best" and the other "learn from others."
Xu Milu: "..."
Zhao Jin is right, her maternal grandfather is a real genius.
...
...
In the kitchen, Da Liu and Xiao Mo stood to one side with their hands behind their backs. The two, who originally wanted to stay and watch, were forcibly kicked out by Old Man Liu. In order to let Xu Mi Lu learn better, Old Man Liu also went out after making a round.
"Child, do you understand what your grandfather means?"
Choi Seung-guk shook his head, then couldn't help but smile and say:
"Don't be afraid. Just think of it as helping me out. Do what you usually do for your grandfather. Let me see your basic skills first. Here, you can kill this fish first."
Xu Milu dared not say that what Old Liu had just said was just bragging. She had only been learning to cook from her grandfather for less than three months.
But now that the die was cast, Xu Milu had no choice but to act. She gritted her teeth, picked up the kitchen knife from the cutting board, scooped the silver-winged flying fish out of the sink, and with a swift motion, the back of the knife struck the fish's head firmly. The unfortunate creature immediately stopped struggling.
Cui Shengguo observed Xu Milu's actions and asked with a smile:
"Can you explain why you didn't just chop off the fish head, but instead chose to knock it unconscious?"
Xu Milu thought for a moment and said carefully, "You just said that this fish is best made into sashimi, so I was wondering if a live fish would be better?"
Choi Seung-guk nodded approvingly:
"That makes sense. Dead fish meat is hard, and even if it's fresh, the blood will affect the taste of the sashimi. But many chefs nowadays overlook this subtle difference. It's good that you thought of this."
He touched the silver-winged flying fish on the cutting board, observed it carefully for a while, and then exclaimed:
“When I was an apprentice, I went to people’s homes to help with cooking with my master. I was lucky enough to see a silver belt once. I never thought that after so many years, I would be able to do it myself.”
Xu Milu handed over the knife, which Cui Shengguo took, wiped clean with a white cloth, and paused slightly.
"Girl, watch carefully. This is a sword technique that my Cui family doesn't pass on to outsiders. I'll only use it once. How much you learn is up to you. How you use it in the future and who you teach it to is none of my business."
Xu Milu smiled awkwardly, knowing that Cui Shengguo wasn't stupid and could easily see through Old Liu's little scheme.
However, the other party agreed out of consideration for the silver-winged flying fish and taught her a lesson.
But she didn't let her guard down, focusing intently on Cui Shengguo's movements. With the head chef of the old-established restaurant personally instructing her, she would benefit no matter how much she learned.
Choi Seung-guk closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and his aura suddenly changed, becoming as sharp as a drawn sword!
The heavy cleaver seemed weightless in his hands; he cut along the spine, the blade swiftly slicing through the fish skin to reveal bright red flesh.
"laugh--"
The sound of the fish skin tearing was barely audible. Cui Shengguo stared intently at the blade, his muscles tense, his hands moving rapidly, almost leaving afterimages.
In no time, a blooming peony appeared before Xu Milu's eyes. The petals were crystal clear, the stamens were lifelike, and most impressively, the edges of the petals were decorated with tiny fish skin-like specks, yet they remained perfectly intact!
"call……"
Cui Shengguo looked as if he had won a battle; beads of sweat glistened on his forehead, but looking at the glistening fish sashimi in front of him, his eyes shone with excitement.
