Chapter 53 Out of Control & Beastification

"Xingnian! What are you saying!"

Tian Meiling nudged Liu Hongjun and quickly spoke up for her son and husband:

"Dad, Junzi means that since it's Dami's first time being her own boss, you should give her some advice. You'll have to oversee a lot of things, right? Dami is young, and she's bound to suffer losses in business. I think it's better for her to work with her own people than with others. What do you think, Damei?"

No one paid any attention to her at the dinner table.

Old Liu looked at his son, a hint of desolation in his eyes, and sighed:

“I’m here to be a chef, what does this restaurant business have to do with me? If anyone’s going to make decisions, it’s the rice. I can only watch over her and help her avoid some detours—don’t underestimate these young people just because they’ve had fewer years of rice than us, they’re just as capable and quick-witted!”

Then Old Man Liu said to Xu Milu:

"Dami, don't listen to this nonsense. Don't worry, I don't know anything about running a restaurant. Grandpa won't interfere. At home, we're grandfather and grandson, but at the restaurant, we're the boss and the chef! Back in the day, I would have been your soldier, absolutely obedient to discipline!"

None of them spoke; this was meant for Liu Hongjun's family to hear.

A while ago, Tian Meiling was envious of the rice food shop's business, and everyone knows how many times she subtly and overtly egged Old Liu on.

Unexpectedly, the old man was so firm this time, directly extinguishing the couple's ideas right at the dinner table, leaving them with no chance at all.

Seeing that Old Liu looked sad, Xu Milu knew that her grandfather was disappointed in Liu Hongjun's family.

"Grandpa, don't worry, I'll take care of you in your old age."

"Hey—these are my true feelings. I'm putting this out there now so you won't have to feel awkward later."

Old Liu glanced around at everyone present. Liu Hongmei's expression was calm, as if she had expected it all along. Liu Hongjun remained silent, and Liu Hongjun hadn't reacted yet.

"Some things are better said sooner rather than later."

The old man coughed:

“I’m making this clear in front of you three siblings today: I’m just a cook in Da Mi, and the restaurant business has nothing to do with me—Junzi, do you understand?”

Liu Hongjun didn't look up. Tian Meiling, who was standing to the side, wanted to say something, but she was scared back by her father-in-law's gaze.

When had she ever seen this old man so assertive?

So what if their daughter makes money? They can act all high and mighty now!

"Dad, stop talking. I know you just think I'm not capable enough. I'm over forty and still just a workshop foreman. I accept that I'm not capable, but I'm happy if Da Mi is capable."

Liu Hongjun suddenly looked up and retorted to the old man.

Just as Liu Hongjun was about to smooth things over, Liu Hongmei gave her a look and stopped her.

“Dad, if you’re not comfortable staying at home, then my sister can stay here. Your son isn’t capable enough to open a restaurant for you or let you take on apprentices in a grand way. And you’re already thinking my family is taking advantage of you before anything has even happened…”

Liu Hongjun hadn't drunk any alcohol, but he was practically intoxicated; his eyes were red as he looked at Liu Hongmei and Liu Hongjun.

“I remember when I got married, my eldest sister married Da Mi’s father to raise money for my dowry. My youngest sister spent a month’s salary to make all the furniture for my wedding. She was so frugal that she didn’t even dare to buy nice clothes… Back then, the three of us had such a good relationship—I was just thinking that we kids should help each other out. What did you take me for?”

"vomit--"

Liu Hongjun's "heartfelt confession" only moved himself; Xu Milu was disgusted and made a vomiting gesture, interrupting him.

"Uncle, what you're saying is creepy. Anyone who didn't know better would think my grandma sold her daughter to marry off her son. You know how much my mom and aunt have suffered for you. This isn't helping them out; it's making my mom support them!"

"Xu Milu! How dare you speak to my father like that? This is a matter for the Liu family, what does it have to do with someone like you surnamed Xu?!"

Liu Xingnian slammed his fist on the table and stood up, pointing at Xu Milu's nose and cursing, but Xu Milan and Hao Chen pressed him back down from both sides.

"It has nothing to do with me, it's just a toad jumping around aimlessly, it doesn't bite but it's annoying."

Since things have come to this point, Xu Milu has no intention of leaving any room for negotiation:

"Can't you understand what Grandpa is saying? Is it brain atrophy or cerebellar palsy? Didn't you have a premarital checkup? I really feel sorry for the girl who marries you. Her future father-in-law is a huge vampire, and her future husband is a senile idiot."

She glanced at Liu Hongjun and Tian Meiling:

"Do you understand? The rice and food shop has nothing to do with you, not now, and not in the future. If anyone tries to use our family's name again, I'll have them kicked out. If you cause any more trouble, I'll go have a good talk with your future in-laws and see if Liu Xingnian's marriage can go through!"

"Strike the snake at its vital point!" Liu Xingnian suddenly stood up and roared.

"You, you dare!"

Xu Milu smiled and said, "Let's see if I dare. If you think you deserve a share of this restaurant, then go ahead and call the police or sue me. I'll fight you to the end!"

A fleeting golden light flashed in her pupils, and a violent emotion spread, only to be quickly suppressed.

Xu Milu leaned forward slightly, grabbed Liu Xingnian by the collar, and lifted the 1.8-meter-tall man off the ground with one hand, leaving everyone astonished.

Suppression by absolute power.

"Dami! Put your cousin down!!!"

Tian Meiling's screams annoyed Xu Milu.

Her expression looked utterly indifferent:

"I didn't know about my mother's situation before, but now that I do, our two families are enemies, with no other connection. If you try to drag me into this again, I'll hang you on the south bridgehead. You'll see if I dare! Do you understand?!"
