Have you ever smelled the aroma of braised meat?
Have you ever smelled the aroma of fine tea?
When the two are mixed together, it seems to have an additional flavor—is it the sweet and sour taste of tomatoes? No.
Is it the sour aroma of vinegar? It doesn't seem so.
The scent is subtle, nestled between two strong aromas, lingering and gentle; upon closer inspection, there's a hint of grassiness within, making you want to inhale it a little longer, and then a little more...
Xu Milu was close by, and the scent completely neutralized her fighting spirit.
"It smells so good! It's clearly not braised meat broth, so why does it taste like meat?"
Xu Milu took a strainer and skillfully tapped each egg in the pot until beautiful cracks appeared on the shells. Then she turned off the heat and simmered the eggs slowly.
The flavor grew stronger and the aroma became more intense as it cooked. What was even more amazing was that Xu Milu could smell the aroma of many different ingredients, including a refreshing citrus scent, a rich bean aroma, and perhaps even a hint of pine oil.
"It's so strange. Despite having so many flavors, they don't mix together. The leaves of this egg and wheat dish are also amazing."
Xu Milu swallowed hard and stirred the pot again.
Afraid that she might not be able to resist eating the bland eggs, she opened the shop door to let the smell dissipate, but was startled by the crowd of elementary school students outside the door.
A dozen or so children, of varying heights, all carrying large schoolbags, were sniffing the air incessantly.
"It smells so good!"
"It smells so good...slurp..."
"I'm so hungry..."
"Auntie, what do you sell?"
Primary school students are cute when they're not causing trouble, but when they start acting up, they can be such naughty kids that you just want to give them a good beating. Xu Milu was suddenly surrounded by so many children and involuntarily took a big step back.
"Sister... Sister, what's that smell? It smells so good!"
A child, clutching a five-yuan note, tried to rush past her into the pot. Xu Milu quickly stopped him. If a group of children rushed in and knocked over the pot, she couldn't bear the responsibility if anyone got burned.
"Pretty lady, I want to buy that, can you sell it to me? I have money with me."
Yesterday, the chubby little boy Wang Xiaodong smiled sweetly at her, and the other children followed suit, calling her "pretty sister" and "beautiful sister" in a sweet voice.
Even Xu Milu couldn't resist these sweet words and quickly surrendered: "Okay, okay, I'll go get it. You guys wait here for a bit."
The children nodded obediently in unison, creating a beautiful scene.
...
...
Many passersby curiously approached to see what smelled so good, attracting a group of children to gather there.
When Xu Milu brought out a large bowl of tea eggs, the children were slightly disappointed, but the next second they were stimulated by the strong aroma in the air, and they took out the money in their pockets and scrambled to buy them. Some children even impatiently reached out and grabbed the scalding hot tea eggs from the bowl.
I want one!
"I want one! I want one!"
"Give it to me! I want one!"
Xu Milu quickly dodged, jokingly saying that freshly boiled tea eggs can scald off a layer of skin.
She patiently packed the tea eggs into a bag: "Each tea egg costs five yuan, don't rob me."
Some children hesitated when they heard that each one cost five yuan, but seeing that other children had bought them and being tempted by the aroma, they gritted their teeth, took out the money that their grandparents had put in their pockets, and bought one.
Several adults watching the commotion felt that Xu Milu's behavior was suspicious of deceiving children, and they all gathered around.
"Hey beautiful, are your eggs made of gold? Five yuan each, why don't you just rob someone?"
"Boss, that's going too far! Five yuan each is a bit of a rip-off."
"That's right, other people's eggs are 1.5 yuan each."
A kind-hearted older woman stopped a child who was about to take out money, saying, "You child, you don't know how to be frugal with spending your family's money. These eggs may smell good, but they're not worth five yuan each."
The older woman also took the opportunity to criticize Xu Milu, who was handing out the eggs: "This young girl is so young, yet she's not learning anything good and is here cheating people."
"Auntie, these eggs are really delicious. Look at the ingredients inside, they're all the best. Not to mention, they're double-yolk eggs. Look how big and round they are, almost like goose eggs. Don't you think they're worth five yuan?"
Xu Milu was both amused and exasperated. She was utterly speechless. Although the eggs were a bit expensive, they were definitely delicious. Now, this old lady's words made it seem like she was a fraud.
She immediately became annoyed. After glancing at the fifteen left, she pouted and said, "Can I not sell them? I'll keep them for myself."
The older woman wouldn't let it go and insisted that Xu Milu return the money to the children, but many of the children had already started to shed their skin, so how could she return it?
Xu Milu ignored her, peeled an egg, took a slow bite, and thought maliciously, "When you want to buy it, I won't sell it to you."
Originally, Xu Milu intended to annoy the old lady, but as soon as the egg entered her mouth, she couldn't help but widen her eyes.
This egg is so delicious it's beyond what an egg should be!
With one bite, the egg white is very bouncy, even a little chewy at the moment of biting in. Breaking through the brownish-red egg white, the almost orange-red yolk pops out.
The savory flavor of the soy sauce is perfectly infused into the eggs. The egg white is no longer bland; instead, it has just the right amount of salty and savory flavor. The yolk is sandy but not dry, with a smooth texture.
Every bite is delicious, with a milky flavor; most surprisingly, every egg is a double yolk, allowing everyone to experience a double surprise.
