Chapter 9 Gourmet Hunter

Xu Milu was still a little groggy for the first ten minutes after waking up.

A small nightlight hung in the tent, and two bottles of mineral water and an eye mask were scattered next to the sleeping bag. But if you opened the tent, it was another world outside.

Not far away, an unidentified white waterbird with a long tail feather glided swiftly across the lake, creating ripples.

Every now and then, a small, furry, rabbit-like animal comes to drink water by the lake. Its big ears twitch, making it look very clever and cute.

The warm sunlight shone down, painting all the plants with a golden edge, making the pale green grass slope appear even more harmonious...

Xu Milu stepped out of the tent and stretched, but suddenly realized something was wrong. Looking down, she noticed that her ankle-length trousers had inexplicably ridden up a bit, and the sleeves on her hands were also inexplicably shorter.

She was immediately dumbfounded: "What's going on? The clothes shrank?"

Although she had worn her windbreaker for two years, it was of good quality and there was no reason for it to shrink overnight. Standing by the lake, looking at her reflection, Xu Milu suddenly had a bold guess:

"Could it be... that I've grown taller?"

Xu Milu is 1.62 meters tall. Although she is not short, she is considered petite among girls from the north. She has always been dissatisfied with her height. Now that she has suddenly grown taller, she doesn't even have time to think about what happened.

Xu Milu happily washed up briefly in the shallows, without startling the rabbit-like creature drinking by the lake, and went back to have breakfast before continuing her exploration.

When she arrived at the spot where the wheat ears had been growing for the past few days, she found that new ears of wheat had already sprouted from the leaves.

Xu Milu was amazed by the yield of this plant and relieved about the future supply.

Just as Xu Milu was about to pick some wheat ears and eggs for breakfast, she caught two little cuties.

Don't get me wrong, it's not some furry little animal, but a genuine, adorable human.

Aren't you cold wearing so little?

The two children were about twelve or thirteen years old, both boys, with bob haircuts, reddish hair color, yellow eyes, and features that looked more like Europeans. They were both wearing thin vests and were hiding among the wheat ears and eggs when Xu Milu caught them red-handed.

Both of them had their hair wet with dew clinging to the leaves, and they looked rather pitiful.

Are you children who live around here?

Xu Milu looked at the two wary children and did not rashly reach out. Instead, she took a step back and gestured for them to come out of the prickly wheat stalks first. She could see for sure that the two children were not wearing shoes, and their arms had tiny red marks from the edges of the leaves.

Are you a gourmet hunter?

The younger child said timidly.

Xu Milu was surprised. The child wasn't speaking Chinese, but she could understand what he meant and immediately realized that it must be related to some hidden function of the dimensional jumper.

Xu Milu didn't know what a Gourmet Hunter was, but she couldn't directly say it wasn't, so she just gave a vague answer:

"Well, I guess so..."

The older children exclaimed in surprise, "You're a Gourmet Hunter?! That's wonderful! Can you take our commission?! We'll pay you, please!!!"

Entrustment?

Xu Milu was completely bewildered, but after hearing the two children's stomachs rumble, she couldn't help but take them to the tent, intending to feed them before learning more about the world.

She made fried eggs, but worried that her two children wouldn't have enough to eat, so she caught a silver-winged flying fish, quickly cleaned its internal organs, and stewed it.

Busy Xu Milu didn't see the wide-open mouths of the two children when they saw her easily catch the silver-winged flying fish.

"That's a silver-winged flying fish!"

"Great! This young lady is at least a four-star Gourmet Hunter!"

The two children looked at Xu Milu with eyes full of admiration and worship, leaving her completely bewildered.

"Alright, the soup is ready. Drink some to warm yourself up. Why are you hiding in the grass? Are you waiting for me?"

Xu Milu remained vigilant, her hands constantly clenched. If the two children had accomplices, she would immediately activate the dimensional jumper to leave.

Although the sun is out now, the lakeside is still very humid in the morning, and the two children are dressed so lightly. I wonder how long they've been stuck in the wheat and egg patch by the lake. Drinking some soup will be good for them.

Xu Milu added a lot of finely chopped ginger to the soup, which warmed the body from the throat to the stomach. The two children drank it until they were sweating profusely, and after eating a bite of the almost boneless fish, they almost cried tears of happiness.

"Is this what four-star ingredients are like?! I'm so happy!"

"Thank you, miss! You are such a kind person!"

Through Xu Milu's deliberate or unintentional attempts to elicit information, the two children revealed some basic information about this world called the Gourmet Hunter.

In this world, everyone's life revolves around "food." Among the many professions such as food journalists, food hunters, culinary masters, food judges, chefs, and restaurant owners, there is one profession that is very popular because it can always find new ingredients—food hunters.

Food hunters explore unknown delicacies, and their adventurous nature leads them to discover new ingredients. They also take on various high-risk missions, making them almost like celebrities among the public.

To date, food hunters have discovered over 100,000 kinds of ingredients around the world, but the world is too big, and there are still many unknown ingredients waiting to be discovered.

These known ingredients are classified into ten stars according to the food rating system released by the Food Association. There are many one-star, two-star, and five-star ingredients, which are considered common food.
