Chapter 16 A Great Victory

Wang Wu was like an unstoppable bull; any bandits who stood in his way couldn't even get past him in one move before being cut down.

With each leap high into the air, he managed to take someone with him, and soon he reached the second-in-command.

The second-in-command, on the other hand, was holding the reins of his horse. He knew where his advantage lay, and for a time the two were evenly matched.

Ning Ye walked the edge of the battlefield, ruthlessly reaping the lives of these people.

The men I brought have already undergone three trials; they can't afford to die here so easily again.

Whenever someone is in an emergency, Ning Ye will not hesitate to fire a crossbow bolt. After all, there are only a few dozen people. If they run, Ning Ye really can't catch them. But if they stay here and fight, Ning Ye will show them what despair is.

As fewer and fewer people remained around, the second-in-command realized the situation was dire. After defeating Wang Wu with a single blow, he turned and fled.

He didn't know exactly why he lost, but he knew very well that as long as he was alive, he could always make a comeback.

He's already had enough of his carefree days here. Even if he moves to another place, he can still make a comeback. Why waste his precious life here?

He still has so much gold and silver treasure hidden away, and so many beauties waiting for him to enjoy; he can't die with these people.

With his second-in-command's escape, the remaining bandits fell into a state of low morale.

Wang Wu was full of disdain. If this second-in-command was willing to fight him to the death, he would have recognized him as an opponent. But now, this guy who ran away was just a spineless coward.

Despite having more people and seemingly having the advantage, they still managed to escape.

He raised his crossbow, aimed at the second-in-command's back, and a bolt pierced the man's back, knocking him off his horse.

As a result, they ran over quickly, and no one was going to save a guy who was trying to escape.

The second-in-command raised his sword high, and as the blade fell, he begged for mercy, "Don't kill me, don't kill me! I still have some money to buy my life. If you spare me, I'll give you all my money."

Wang Wu stopped his downward strike and said coldly, "I am not the one who can decide your life or death, but since you still have some value, I will spare your life for now."

Wang Wu did not return to the battlefield, because the battle was nearing its end and there was no longer any need for him to intervene.

Another half-cup of tea time passed, and the battle was indeed completely over. With Ningye's help, there were no new casualties.

However, once they return, it will take at least ten days to half a month before they are able to fight again.

Ning Ye gave his men an order to make sure no one was left alive, and then walked towards Wang Wu.

"Tell me, why did you keep this guy alive?"

"My lord, this fellow claims to have hidden a great deal of gold and silver treasures, and hopes that you can make a decision on this matter."

Ning Ye nodded and said, "So you have your own agenda. It's good that you have someone to guide you since I don't know where they've kept all the looted money."

The second-in-command hurriedly said, "I can tell you where all the things we looted are, sir, but could you spare my life?"

"Are you trying to bargain with me? After you hand over everything, what happens next depends on my mood."

The second-in-command's face stiffened, but he also knew that he was now the fish on the chopping block and had no right to bargain.

Whether he can survive or not depends on whether this young man is willing to leave himself a way out.

Without further ado, Ning Ye naturally couldn't let go of these spoils that rightfully belonged to him. By the time everything was finished, it was already getting light.

Fortunately, the bandits' horses were a great help. After piling everything onto the cart, Ning Ye chose a magnificent white horse for himself, which originally belonged to the bandit leader.

Ning Ye rode on the white horse, whipping it on, with several carts of goods pulling behind him.

Wang Wu and the others were covered in blood, but as they faced the rising sun, they all laughed heartily.

A smile appeared on Ning Ye's lips. From today onwards, the group of people under his command have truly been transformed.

As for the second-in-command, his head was hanging on a cart at the moment, and there was no way he could be alive.

Ning Ye chopped off the heads of all the bandits. These were very important items, perfect for establishing his authority and proving himself.

The remaining two large carts were filled with food, clothing, and various antiques, paintings, and treasures that this group had looted.

As the sun rose, Ning Ye led his team toward Qingyuan County.

Along the way, some people who had gotten up early to go to the market had already witnessed this awe-inspiring scene.

If it weren't for the fact that Ning Ye and the others weren't wearing military uniforms, people would probably think they were an elite force from somewhere.

Wherever they went, everyone avoided Ning Ye's team, and no one dared to get close.

When Ning Ye arrived at the city gate, he stopped. The soldiers guarding the city were naturally Lin Changhe's personal guards.

This time, however, the guard was already on high alert with his men, as they could see the small mountain of heads piled up from a distance.

Even without knowing whether they were friend or foe, they instinctively felt that something might have happened.

Only after recognizing Ning Ye as the person on horseback did they breathe a sigh of relief. "Brother Ning, could these all be the heads of bandits?"

Ning Ye laughed and said, "If he's not a bandit, then who is he? Do you think I would dare to kill innocent people and claim credit for it?"

"Hey, Brother Ning, what are you saying? But I still need to check it out. Is that convenient for me?"

"There is absolutely no inconvenience here. Please feel free to check it out. I still need to go into the city."

The heads of the bandits were piled up at the very front; anyone with eyes could see them at a glance.

After confirming that Ning Ye had not killed innocent people to claim credit, the guard's eyes were filled with admiration. "I really didn't expect Brother Ning to deal with these guys so quickly. I need to inform him of this. Lord Ning, you should go to the county office first."

Ning Ye nodded slightly, then waved his hand to signal his men to enter the city. As for these heads, they had to go with them too. This was to tell the people of Qingyuan County that there would be another person they didn't want to mess with in the future.
