Chapter 174 The Battle of the Vanguard

Few of these rebels were actually wearing armor; most were merely wearing so-called bamboo armor, which offered little protection against steel blades, let alone the formidable weapon in Hu Laosan's hands.

In just a few breaths, Hu Laosan had already cut these men down to their deaths. His men, who surged in behind him, charged forward with him. On this city wall, Hu Laosan seemed to have become a god of death, killing anyone who stood in his way.

With Hu Laosan leading the charge, this assault was almost unstoppable, easily breaching a small section of the city wall's defenses.

Once the breakthrough was made, everyone else, having worked hard, rushed towards this side. The other rebels also knew that this place had to be defended, but could they really hold it?

In this chaotic environment, Hu Laosan's mind was exceptionally clear. He knew exactly what he should do. When he saw the armored figure roaring and giving orders, Hu Laosan knew his prey had arrived.

Hu Laosan roared, "Brothers, he must be an official. As long as we get his phone, our lives will be much easier from now on. Give me a hand and let me rush over there!"

All the soldiers around him roared in unison. They knew very well that wealth and glory were within their grasp, and only Hu Laosan could help them realize this dream.

Although they hadn't spent much time together, Hu Laosan was still deeply moved when he saw these young men, who usually called him brothers, rushing to stand in front of him, using their own bodies to shield him from the knife and clear a path for him.

But Hu Laosan knew this wasn't the time to be moved; he had to hurry. Every second could mean someone falling, so he had to be as fast as he could!

The rebel general also noticed that Hu Laosan was charging towards him, showing no fear whatsoever. He picked up a long spear and charged at Hu Laosan as well.

The two were soon locked in close combat. The general wielded the spear with consummate skill, indicating that he had at least practiced before and possessed considerable skill.

Long weapons have an inherent advantage over short weapons, and although Hu Laosan's steel knife was well-used, it could not break through the general's offensive. This reminded Hu Laosan once again of the white-clad man he had faced that day.

However, the difference between this general and the man in white was like heaven and earth.

Hu Laosan did not believe he had no chance of winning. With each close-quarters battle, Hu Laosan was quickly searching for the general's weakness.

The general fully utilized his advantages, wielding his spear with wide, sweeping strokes, seemingly oblivious to whether anyone else was around. Each strike was powerful and heavy, leaving Hu Laosan feeling his hands go numb.

In the midst of his desperate struggle, he finally discovered a glimmer of hope: the man's inevitable weakness during his attack had appeared.

Every time the opponent tried to kill him, his right side would rise even higher, and it was at this moment that Hu Laosan seized the opportunity.

When the opponent unleashed his killing move once more, Hu Laosan's steel knife was knocked out of his hand by the shock, and the opponent knew that he had finally managed to kill the guy who had breached the defenses.

Just as the spear pierced through Hu Laosan's shoulder, Hu Laosan also pulled out two short blades from behind him. He still preferred using such short weapons.

Despite the excruciating pain, Hu Laosan, without any fancy moves, thrust both short blades into the general's stomach. To ensure the general's demise, Hu Laosan twisted the two short blades with a ferocious expression.

The general spat a mouthful of blood directly onto Hu Laosan's face. "You really are a tough guy. With this shot, you'll probably be crippled even if you don't die. Is it worth it?"

Hu Laosan grinned, "It's alright, it's just a minor injury. I think it's well worth it to exchange this injury for your life."

"I'd accept dying at your hands, but I'm sure someone like you won't live long either. I'll be waiting for you on your way to the underworld."

Hu Laosan immediately picked up the steel knife that had fallen to the ground and, without hesitation, chopped off the general's head. He then raised it high and shouted, "The commander is dead! Aren't you going to surrender? If you continue to resist, you will only face death!"

The shouts that echoed throughout the city walls allowed many of the rebels to see the heads of their own generals. In that instant, the already limited battle was completely wiped out, and many people immediately chose to surrender.

At this point, the entire battle could almost be considered over, as everything was beyond saving.

When the collapse of this section of the city wall begins to spread to other areas, the army will be able to advance into the city without any pressure. After entering the city, of course, a brutal street battle awaits them, but that doesn't matter.

With just this rabble, without the protection of the city walls, these people could not possibly be their direct enemy.

Having made such a great contribution, Hu Laosan naturally met the general again.

Lin Xinping didn't rush to speak. Instead, he looked at the crisscrossing injuries on Hu Laosan's body and the shockingly large wound before patting Hu Laosan on the shoulder.

"I knew I hadn't misjudged you. You are no ordinary person. If it were anyone else, such injuries would probably have been fatal long ago."

Hu Laosan clasped his hands and said, "It was all just a burst of enthusiasm. If it weren't for good luck, I probably would have died on the city wall long ago."

"Luck is also very important. If someone else had your luck, they would be secretly happy right now."

"You flatter me too much, sir."

Lin Xinping said calmly, "You did very well this time. How should I reward you? You were the first to reach the top, which is a great achievement. I really don't know what to do."

Hu Laosan immediately said, "My lord, what I did today was only to repay your kindness. I had no other intentions. Even if I had nothing, I would still be willing to go through fire and water for you."

At this moment, Hu Laosan's eyes were incredibly firm as he spoke, and his words seemed to be without the slightest falsehood. Even in front of Lin Xinping, that old fox, no one could detect anything amiss.
