Chapter 96 A Battle of Fury

Sure enough, after Hu Laosan left Jiangyang City, he was ambushed on a side path he had chosen. There were more than a dozen skilled fighters who surrounded him in an instant.

But Hu Laosan showed no panic at all. His eyes were filled with anger. He had nothing in the city, but when he left the city, he had already taken all his original equipment.

The air was filled with the constant whooshing sounds of arrows flying through the grove. Deadly arrows were shooting at Hu Laosan from all directions, and all he could hide behind was a dead tree stump.

However, by observing the direction in which these people were shooting arrows, Hu Laosan quickly determined their location, and that half of them were rapidly approaching him.

Such a setup would indeed give most people a headache, but Hu Laosan's eyes were filled with a sense of battle. He knew that he couldn't leave this place without dealing with these people.

Hu Laosan opened a military green package and took out two stun grenades. Ning Ye had taught him how to use them; in close combat, these two items could instantly turn the tide of battle.

As the footsteps drew closer, Hu Laosan threw out two stun grenades and then lay on the ground, covering his ears.

Although the blinding white light wasn't that intense during the day, the shock wasn't just due to the empty light. Wu Laosan had never seen such a shocking yet truly effective light before, but after the white light flashed by, he kept Ning Ye's teachings in mind.

Like a cheetah, Hu Laosan leaped from the ground, now wielding two short knives. He charged at the bewildered enemies.

These people were completely caught off guard and had become easy targets.

In just a few breaths, Hu Laosan had already taken five or six lives. As for the two people who were a little further away, Hu Laosan simply shot them dead with his crossbow.

In that instant, the roles of hunter and prey began to reverse. The crossbowmen who had been ambushing from afar had just come to their senses when they discovered that Hu Laosan was already charging towards them.

They were indeed frightened, but the crossbowmen had no intention of retreating. They knew very well that if they failed to complete their mission, they would not escape death even if they went back.

Having run out of ways to win, Hu Laosan could only engage in a real close-quarters fight with these people.

Fortunately, the remaining seven people were quite scattered. Hu Laosan was able to quickly deal with one after getting close to it. Even with the opponent's long-range support, Hu Laosan chose to fight head-on.

If you're wondering why, it's because the soft armor produced by the system is just too powerful. Its protective capabilities are practically at an abnormal level, and some arrows simply can't penetrate it completely.

So all that could be left on Hu Laosan were some superficial wounds, but when Hu Laosan ran up to them, they were about to face death.

When the fierce battle ended, Hu Laosan collapsed to the ground, exhausted. Even though he was severely irritated, he knew he couldn't rest now. If he stopped, he might be caught again.

After catching his breath, Hu Laosan straightened up and walked step by step toward where he had hidden his horses.

Shortly after Hu Laosan left, the man who had been relentlessly pursuing them arrived with his men.

Even he was somewhat shocked, after all, only Hu Laosan escaped, but the entire team of fifteen people had been killed.

The man then examined the causes of death of everyone and quickly discovered that the people closest to him all had blood coming from their mouths and noses, which puzzled him.

Besides that, all he could find here were some pieces of iron, but how could he possibly understand what those pieces of iron were before, or what their purpose was?

The man muttered to himself, "Sigh, it seems we've failed in what the prince entrusted to us. The only important thing is getting rid of this person; the other kids are nothing, just a bunch of expendable pawns."

If Hu Laosan were here, he would definitely shout at him that those children were not abandoned children, and that he would never have abandoned them if there was really no other way.

On the other side, Ning Ye and the others naturally wanted to verify the truth after finishing their meal, otherwise how could Master Lan Yue have willingly admitted defeat?

Master Lanyue immediately chose a spot he hadn't selected, saying, "Boy, start digging here. According to your map, you can dig out a water source anytime, and then the outcome will be clear."

Although the two men spoke with great conviction, the well digger, Boss Shi, who had been brought over, was somewhat skeptical. Based on their past experience in digging wells, they would simply open a small wellhead in the ground, and if there was water, they would continue digging; if there was no water, they would move to another location.

Now Ning Ye says there's no need to consider it; just dig a well here and you'll see water after digging ten meters. How can he believe that?

Old Master Shi advised, "Young master, you don't know how much trouble it is to dig a well. Why don't we try the old method first? If it doesn't work, we can find another place."

Ning Ye smiled and said, "Thank you for your kindness, Boss Shi, but my mind is made up. You just need to do as I say. If you waste any money, you won't be shortchanged."

Boss Shi said no more. The host had already said so, what else could they say?

He immediately shouted to his brothers to get to work, as digging out ten meters was no easy task.

Fortunately, this is an underground well, so as long as it can produce water, the progress is relatively fast.

In about half a day, a very simple well was dug, and the ten-meter gap that Ning Ye mentioned was not much, but it was still all dry soil.

Ning Ye jumped in, glanced around, and said, "Hmm, we're almost there. Now, let everyone else go out. I'll stay here and come out of the water alone."

Boss Shi said with some concern, "No, no, no, young master, please don't joke around. If something happens to you, we'll all have to go to the authorities."
