☆, Chapter 31 You sleep peacefully, I will accompany you
Shu Wanning felt extremely tired all over and her legs were too weak to move. She finally fell asleep, but her sleep was not restful.
In the dream, she couldn't swim and was thrown into the swimming pool, but no matter how hard she struggled, she couldn't float to the surface.
Just when she seemed to see Wen Yuci coming to save her, someone grabbed her feet under the water and pulled her down desperately.
She woke up suddenly, her forehead covered with sweat, her eyes were filled with panic after being frightened, and she couldn't stop blinking.
"Having a nightmare?"
Wen Yuci stood by the bed without her noticing, his hand patting her back to comfort her: "I heard you screaming for help when I went upstairs, so I came in."
Shu Wanning wiped the sweat from his forehead, covered his chest and muttered, "I dreamed that someone pulled my feet under the swimming pool."
Her nasal tone became heavier, and she coughed twice while speaking. Wen Yuci pulled a chair and sat beside the bed, raised his chin slightly and said, "You sleep peacefully, I'll accompany you."
Shu Wanning felt an inexplicable ambiguity in these words. She looked at Wen Yuci, and their eyes met. She blinked a few times unnaturally.
She lay down and pulled her quilt, but found that her sleepiness had disappeared without a trace due to the nightmare, and she only felt a little hungry.
Seeing her sit up, Wen Yuci looked at her puzzledly: "Not sleeping anymore?"
"No need to sleep, I'm a little hungry."
She got up, picked up the blanket from the bed and put it on herself, tidied her messy hair, and was about to go out when Wen Yuci grabbed her arm.
Before she could react, his hand was already on her forehead to test the temperature, and in just a moment, he withdrew his hand.
"It's still a little hot. I'll give you another shot tomorrow."
Shu Wanning nodded and held the handrail when going downstairs. Seeing the two of them coming downstairs, Aunt Jing hurried to the kitchen to inform them.
New Year decorations were piled up in the corner of the living room. Shu Wanning walked over and picked up the red lantern. Thoughts were surging in his eyes, and his hand holding the lantern gradually tightened.
When she was about eleven years old, the Shu family was busy decorating the room during the New Year. She wanted to help hang lanterns, but accidentally fell and broke a red lantern.
At that time, Zhao Wei pulled her over and scolded her, and then made her stand in the snow for an hour. She still remembered that she had a severe fever at that time. Thinking about it now, she seemed really difficult to kill.
She put the lantern back in its place, concealed the emotions in her eyes, and when she turned around, she found Wen Yuci standing a few steps behind her.
He was only wearing a shirt and hooked his finger at her. Shu Wanning walked up to him in confusion, and seeing the corners of his lips slightly raised, she thought he was going to say something.
However, he just put the fever-reducing patch in his hand on her forehead and asked, "Do you like lanterns?"
"dislike."
Shu Wanning covered her lips and coughed a few times, her throat starting to hurt. Watching her go to the kitchen, Wen Yuci looked at the servants mopping the floor and said, "Madam doesn't like lanterns, take care of them."
Shu Wanning was drinking the pear soup that Aunt Jing made for her. Wen Yuci stood outside the restaurant. After a moment, he turned around and left. Yan Hao was already waiting for him in the yard.
Inside the car, Yan Hao said, "Your aunt and uncle have already returned to the old house. When do you plan to go back?"
Wen Yuci paused and changed his words, "Tomorrow."
After dinner, Shu Wanning digested her food in the living room, watching the servants busy with the decorations. Aunt Jing put a blanket on her shoulders and stood beside her, whispering:
"The Madam used to love the New Year the most, so even when the Young Master spent the New Year at the old house over the years, the decorations here were never lacking."
Aunt Jing looked at Shu Wanning with a loving face, patted her arm and said, "In this old house, except for the old lady and Master Yuming, no one treats the young master sincerely.
It's like a den of dragons and tigers, everyone is eyeing the Wen family's little wealth. Young Madam, you'll be spending the New Year at the old house, so you must protect yourself."
Shu Wanning looked at her, and gradually saw in Aunt Jing the person who had protected her at all costs in the Shu family.
She curled her lips and nodded from the bottom of her heart: "Aunt Jing, don't worry."
She glanced around and said, "Let's let everyone go home for the holiday soon."
"That won't work. If everyone leaves, who will take care of you and the young master?"
"Don't worry, Aunt Jing."
Shu Wanning insisted again and again, and Aunt Jing could only nod. Before leaving, she reminded him again: "You must take your medicine on time."
Shu Wanning returned to her room and sat on the rocking chair on the balcony. The rare sunshine made her feel warm and sleepy.
After watching everyone leave Qianyue Bay one after another for a long time, Shu Wanning opened the door and went downstairs. There were prepared fruits and pastries in the living room.
She picked up a cherry and put it in her mouth, then walked into the kitchen and opened the refrigerator. She found that the chef had already prepared many ingredients before leaving.
You don't have to guess to know that it was Aunt Jing who arranged it. She was afraid that when they were not around, there would be no one to help her and Wen Yuci when they wanted to cook.
She stood in front of the refrigerator for a long time, then took out the necessary ingredients, put on her headphones, and looked at the recipe on her phone.
When Wen Yuci came back from the company, he found that there was no one in Qianyue Bay Courtyard. He walked in surprised. The living room was also quiet, with only a few noises coming from the kitchen.
He threw his coat aside and slowly walked towards the kitchen, where he saw Shu Wanning wearing an apron, her hair tied up, stirring the vegetables in the pot with an expressionless face.
He curled his lips, his eyes fixed on her and refused to move away. After a long while, he walked into the kitchen.
He noticed that Shu Wanning was wearing headphones. Afraid that his sudden appearance would scare her, he stood at the kitchen door and raised his voice to call her, "Shu Wanning."
Hearing his voice, Shu Wanning tilted her head, took off her headphones and said, "You're back. Let's eat."
She took the food out of the pot and pointed to the table behind her: "Mr. Wen, it's time to serve the food."
Wen Yuci chuckled and nodded. After washing his hands, he went to serve the dishes. Looking at the six dishes on the table, he looked at Shu Wanning puzzledly and asked, "Why did you cook for yourself?"
Shu Wanning untied her apron, opened a bottle of juice and said, "Probably to thank Mr. Wen for taking care of me during this period of time."
The aroma of the food lingered in Wen Yuci's nose. He took the cup from Shu Wanning and said jokingly, "It seems that Mrs. Wen's cooking skills are not bad."
"Of course, otherwise I would have starved to death on the streets."
Wen Yuci put down his cup and looked up at her and asked, "The Shu family doesn't give you food?"
Shu Wanning curled her lips in self-mockery, "You've seen more of the capital's dirty business than I have. How could an unappreciated adopted daughter live a life of luxury?"
