Angel

Angel

Chen Xing did not answer Chen Tian's question immediately. She was thinking that compared to the pain, she felt more fear.

It was late at night, with heavy rain pouring down. The surroundings were gloomy and dark, and there was endless fear with no one around.

Chen Xing moved the corners of his lips, wanting to smile, but he couldn't.

Finally, a voice that sounded like a gentle comfort said, "I feel so warm being held by you now."

When Chen Tian heard this, he laughed out loud. Even after saying this, Chen Xing was still coaxing him. How could his sister be so nice?

Chen Tian secretly wiped away a tear and said, "Be serious, you don't look serious at all?"

Chen Xing said seriously, "I'm serious. Your embrace was so warm that day, so warm that it made me forget the pain for a moment. I thought God finally couldn't stand it anymore and sent you to save me."

Chen Tian gave Chen Xing enough emotional feedback and said with a smile: "Really?"

Chen Tian's unfinished words were stuck on his lips. If possible, he didn't want it to happen again.

Chen Tian happened to be away from home that day because of something. He went to the old lady's yard to look for Chen Xing after dinner, but Chen Xing had not come back yet.

Chen Tian got very angry just because Chen Xing did not come home at night. The sky outside was dark and it had started to rain heavily.

And in the room, the so-called family members, the old lady, Xu Wei... no one cared about where Chen Xing was going. They didn't even think there was anything wrong with one person missing from the house.

When Chen Tian asked where Chen Xing had gone, the house fell silent. The old lady who had been cracking melon seeds, peeling peanuts and watching TV suddenly stopped talking.

Chen Tian immediately realized something was wrong. They didn't tell him anything, but just downplayed it and said indifferently, "Chen Xing, that damn kid, who knows where she's gone crazy again? When she comes back, I'll definitely complain to her mother..."

Chen Tian didn't finish listening to the old lady's subsequent accusations against Chen Xing. He ran out in the rain like a madman to find his sister, and asked questions to everyone he caught.

"Have you seen my sister?"

She is quite familiar with every household in the village. Chen Xing has been in the countryside for almost two years, and the uncles and aunts who often go out still recognize her.

Chen Xing didn't know how crazy Chen Tian was that night. He was almost taken to a mental hospital. He was in a state of madness and it seemed that if he couldn't find Chen Xing, he would wander around outside for the rest of his life.

Chen Tian ran almost all over the village and went to places that Chen Xing often went to. It was originally just a family matter, but later Chen Tian found the village chief, called the police, and called Gao Yamei and Chen Hai who were still in the city.

This incident became a big deal. That night, almost everyone in the village was helping to look for the person, and it even alarmed the town cadres.

Chen Tian is weak, but he will never give up any opportunity.

Fortunately, Chen Tian found Chen Xing in the rice field in the next village. Chen Xing was lying in the middle of the field.

If Chen Tian had not seen Chen Xing's arm stretched towards the night sky, he would have been afraid that the arm, which was so dark and covered with mud and water, and the raised area could easily be mistaken for a dirt hill.

It was Chen Xing who was saving himself, and it was also Chen Tian who was trying his best to save him.

Chen Xing said: "Brother, when you came, you were like an angel. The darkness in front of my eyes was instantly illuminated by you."

Chen Xing originally thought that she would not be saved and could only wait for death. She had long since given up struggling and had no strength to stand up. Her ears were so loud from the thunder in the sky that she could no longer hear the sounds around her.

From the initial sporadic drizzle to lightning and thunder, the raindrops gradually became larger and heavier, bit by bit, piercing her exposed skin like silver needles.

Before that, Chen Xing had never prayed to the gods, nor had she prayed for her own safety. All she wanted was a quick and easy relief.

But when the rain subsided, Chen Xing finally had the chance to open his eyes and take one last look at the world.

Chen Xing's vision began to blur, as if the background was covered by a layer of white gauze.

But she suddenly saw scattered fragments one after another in front of her eyes, starting from the time she could remember, and as she grew older, every scene, every frame of the picture floated gently past her eyes, and quickly flashed by like a kaleidoscope.

She thought that her life seemed to have ended before it even began. Chen Xing's accumulated strength supported her and made her want to reach out and touch the scene in front of her, because she seemed to see her parents.

She wanted to ask, "Why did you give birth to me? Why did you abandon me in the countryside? Why did you let me live?"

Chen Xing unknowingly had two lines of hot tears sliding down her eyes. Just as her hand was about to fall, she seemed to hear the call from heaven.

She couldn't really hear who was calling her name. The voice came into her mind, sometimes far away and sometimes near. It was clear and loud, each voice stronger than the last, and seemed to be tinged with sadness.

She thought she had reached heaven. "Is heaven also so noisy?"

Chen Xing was almost certain that she was dead, but her falling hand was suddenly caught by a hot but not burning hand.

"So warm." Chen Xing opened his mouth, his voice was so low and hoarse that it was difficult to hear.

When Chen Xing was about to close her eyes and fall asleep, she fell into a warm and safe embrace. The rain in her ears also disappeared, and she heard someone shouting at the top of his lungs.

Chen Xing was called by Chen Tian. She was drowsy, but he forcibly woke her up until she saw his face clearly.

Chen Xing was frozen all over, and her lips trembled when she spoke, but the person in front of her made her want to call him.

"Cousin...cousin...you..." Are you an angel?

Chen Xing was halfway through his words when he heard a noisy voice in his ears.

When Chen Tian picked up Chen Xing, he felt that she was like an ice cube. If he hadn't seen that Chen Xing still had some consciousness, Chen Tian would have collapsed and screamed.

Chen Tian came here alone. He could only carry Chen Xing away from this barren field and go to a populated place first.

Chen Tian was afraid that Chen Xing would fall asleep and never wake up, so he held her in his arms and ran while shouting her name.

"Chen Xing, Chen Xing..."

"Brother, please don't sleep, please don't sleep..."

"I'm sorry, I didn't protect you well, Chen Xing, wake up..."

Along the way, Chen Tian held Chen Xing in his arms and said a lot of things, all of which he had been holding back and hadn't been able to tell her. He finally had the chance to say them, but Chen Xing seemed unable to remember them...

Later, Chen Tian carried Chen Xing into the ambulance. This was the second time he had sent her into the ambulance. Every time he felt like he was going to lose something, and every time he was on the verge of regret.

Chen Tian watched Chen Xing put on the oxygen mask as the nurse inserted one cold instrument after another into her body. The ticking sound of the life monitor was like a death warrant, screaming in Chen Tian's ears.

Chen Tian prayed to God, willing to sacrifice all his life in exchange for Chen Xing's weak heart to beat again.

God knows how many people were on the verge of collapse and despair that night.

Fortunately, Chen Xing survived. She got a new life and a chance to start over.

When she woke up in the hospital and saw Gao Yamei, Chen Hai, Chen Yue and Chen Tian standing by her bedside, smiling faintly at her, their smiles were mixed with worry, concern and tears.

Chen Xing felt that she was still loved, at least her parents had not given up on her.

Their haggard and tired faces made Chen Xing feel distressed. Because of her, they hadn't had a good rest for many days.

Chen Xing suddenly thought of what the old lady and Chen Rong often said about her being a burden. She could no longer laugh and could no longer be a simple child like she used to be.

She was shocked to realize that she had to be sensible and try not to cause them trouble, so that she would not be sent away again.

Chen Xing still remembers the first words he said, "Mom, Dad, I want to be with you."

Gao Yamei and Chen Hai's eyes instantly filled with tears. They held Chen Xing's hand, gently stroked her hair and cheek, and promised her: "Well, we will go home and live together, and we will never be separated again."

Afterwards, Gao Yamei went to find Liu Fang, but Liu Fang said she knew nothing. In the end, they chose to keep the peace in order not to make things worse.

Chen Xing saw through their attitude and knew that in their hearts family harmony was more important than anything else. When she heard the old lady scolding Chen Hai, she said nothing in the end. She secretly buried all the past two years and experiences in the countryside.

Something she thought she would never mention again was finally brought up again many years later. This time, she wanted to let it go completely.

After Chen Xing recalled the past, tears still gathered in her eyes, but she was strong enough to hold them back. She would never cry again because of this matter.

Chen Xing hugged Chen Tian's arm again and said, "Brother, that was when I decided that you were my closest family member. I used to envy others for having brothers who loved them, but since then, I have a brother too."

It was after that experience that Chen Xing began to believe that there were gods in the world, and that they were somewhere she couldn't see.

Chen Xing said: "Brother, there is something I want to tell you."

Chen Tian rolled his eyes and said, "Huh? What?"

Chen Xing pursed his lips, then looked up at the night sky, pointing to the starry sky on the horizon and said, "The stars after the rain that night were the brightest stars I have ever seen."

That day, when Chen Xing was being carried by Chen Tian and running, she seemed to see the night sky washed by rain in her drowsiness. It was bright and clear. The moon had not appeared yet, but the stars were unusually bright.

It was at that time that she fell in love with the night sky and the stars at night, because they represented hope and light in the darkness.

At the same time, she also hated rainy days, thunder and lightning because they led her to despair and death.

Chen Tian hugged Chen Xing tightly, and suddenly he was afraid that he would lose her again. She was right next to him, but he didn't feel safe.

Chen Tian blinked and said, "Chen Xing, do you know when I started treating you as my sister?"

Chen Tian asked Chen Xing the same question in return, but Chen Xing gave him an unexpected answer.

Chen Xing smiled and said, "I guess it was the day I protected you."

Chen Tian frowned. Was his expression that obvious?

It was hard for Chen Xing to guess that Chen Tian couldn't hide anything in his heart. All his joys, sorrows, anger and happiness were written on his face, as if he was afraid that others couldn't see it.

Chen Tiandao: "How do you know?"
