Just right for two people to eat
Wen Yu and Chen Xing arrived at the studio and met Ji Wenyin. This morning's art class was taught by another teacher, and Ji Wenyin happened to want to talk to Wen Yu about something.
Wen Yu watched Chen Xing enter the studio and still stood outside the door with a reluctant look on his face.
Ji Wenyin looked at Wen Yu's concern for Chen Xing and said, "Okay, stop looking. Chen Xing has already gone to class."
"Come with me, I have something to tell you."
Wen Yu followed Ji Wenyin to her office.
Wen Yu had already guessed what Ji Wenyin was going to say to him, "Aunt, I know what you want to say. If it's about being sick, don't say it."
Wen Yu didn't want anyone to comfort him. He was in good condition now and was not depressed because of ALS. He didn't need any special care.
Ji Wenyin had just learned that Wen Yu had been diagnosed with ALS, and she hadn't found a chance to talk to him about it because she was afraid that he couldn't bear it, after all, he was still a child who hadn't graduated.
Seeing that Wen Yu was in good spirits, Ji Wenyin felt that she had nothing more to say. Wen Yu had always made them feel at ease since he was a child.
Ji Wenyin said: "You, you are still a child, but you have matured like an adult so early. I wonder if you are tired of living like this?"
Ji Wenyin realized she had said the wrong thing after she finished speaking, but Wen Yu understood what she meant.
Wen Yu's face was expressionless. He simply said, "Aunt, isn't it the same for you? You could have made things easier for yourself, but you took on one job after another. Aren't you tired?"
Wen Yu asked back, and Ji Wenyin smiled. Her nephew was still the same as before. He did not become mentally fragile because of his illness. Nothing had changed. It was just that the day had come earlier.
Seeing Wen Yu's current condition, Ji Wenyin had nothing to worry about. She chatted with Wen Yu about Chen Xing's school entrance examination, and before she knew it, the morning had passed.
Ji Wenyin sighed, "You really care about Chen Xing's school exam."
Wen Yu didn't say anything. Ji Wenyin saw it but didn't say it out loud.
Ji Wenyin said, "Okay, go pick her up after class. Do you want me to treat you to lunch?"
Wen Yu thought for a moment and said, "No, I'm afraid she'll feel awkward if you're here."
Ji Wenyin said with a smile: "Stinky boy."
Wen Yu said, "Aunt, come to my house when you have time. Don't always eat takeout. The food I cook will definitely suit your taste."
Ji Wenyin listened to Wen Yu's words and smiled with relief. She felt that time had passed so quickly. The little kid who always liked to snatch snacks from her hands has grown up.
Ji Wenyin's eyes flickered and she said, "I see. I'll go home when I'm done with this."
Wen Yu said "goodbye" for the last time and left.
Ji Wenyin looked at the place where Wen Yu disappeared. She couldn't take her eyes off him for a long time. She always felt that the next time they would not be as happy as this time.
When Wen Yu arrived at the studio, Chen Xing was already waiting for him outside.
Wen Yu asked, "You came out so soon. Have you been waiting for a long time?"
Chen Xing shook his head and said, "Maybe it's because the exam is coming up soon. The classes are all reviewing the previous content, so they are relatively relaxed. Have you gone to see your aunt?"
Wen Yu nodded and said, "Well, let's chat for a while, let's go have lunch first."
Wen Yu took Chen Xing to a delicious noodle restaurant and ordered two bowls of beef noodles.
Wen Yu said: "This noodle shop has been open for many years. When my mother was working here when I was a child, I often came here to eat noodles."
Chen Xing had rarely heard Wen Yu mention his mother, and she would not take the initiative to mention it. After all, the death of a mother is a wound in everyone's heart.
Chen Xing said: "Then if you want to eat in the future, I will come with you."
After Chen Xing said this, she felt that it seemed a bit sentimental, especially when Wen Yu looked at her with those gentle eyes.
Chen Xing said, "What I mean is, whenever you want to eat in the future, just call me. Eating noodles with two people will definitely be much more delicious than eating alone."
Wen Yu looked at Chen Xing's anxious explanation. He just wanted to write down that sentence, and write down every word Chen Xing said.
Wen Yu smiled and said, "Okay."
Not long after, two bowls of beef noodles were served. The aroma of the beef noodles hit us in the face, and we knew they were delicious without even tasting them.
Wen Yu glanced at Chen Xing eating noodles with big mouthfuls, and knew that she must be hungry, so he didn't say anything.
After finishing their noodles, the two went straight to the nearest library. There was a study room in the library, which was separate from the reading area, so they could talk.
Chen Xing and Wen Yu entered a study room, and Wen Yu planned to help Chen Xing with math and English.
Wen Yu looked at the results of all Chen Xing's exams in his senior year. After analysis, he felt that Chen Xing's performance in minor subjects was basically stable, and as long as there were no unexpected events, there would be no problem.
But Chen Xing's math and English were very unstable, especially English, where he made the most mistakes in the listening comprehension section.
Wen Yu asked, "Do you want to learn English or math first?"
Chen Xing said, "Let's talk about English. It takes half an hour to explain a big math problem. It's such a waste of time. If you showed me your notes before, I can understand them by myself."
Wen Yu said, "Well, you still have to understand mathematics on your own. If you don't understand something, feel free to ask me."
Ever since Chen Xing read Wen Yu's study notes from the first to the third year of high school, she has admired him even more. It is true that a genius's notes are the essence. Even a slow-reacting brain like her can understand them. They are simply tailor-made for her.
Wen Yu spent the entire afternoon teaching Chen Xing the tricks of English listening, and made Chen Xing engrave his commonly used methods in her mind. Even if she could no longer understand them, she would be able to get the hang of it through osmosis and practice more on her own.
Wen Yu said: "Are you tired? You can take a rest for a while."
Chen Xing listened to the listening test for an entire afternoon and his ears were ringing, but the learning effect was still very good.
Chen Xing took off his headphones, stretched, and said, "Why didn't you bring anything? Did you leave all your time to me?"
Chen Xing only then realized that Wen Yu had nothing in his hands. While she was doing her homework, she thought he was reading books, but it turned out that those books were her class notes.
Wen Yu said seriously, "As your tutor, I must do my duty."
Chen Xing was amused. "When did you become my tutor?"
Wen Yu said, "From now on, I will help you improve your math and English. I will make sure you can win the college entrance exam in a few months."
Chen Xing thought Wen Yu was joking, but later she realized that he was serious all along, and that he had done a lot and given his all to help her get into Jinghua University.
Chen Xing rested for a while and prepared to do another set of test papers. Wen Yu was watching her beside her. Seeing her serious look, for him, such a peaceful time was a kind of enjoyment.
They met when the sun just rose and waited to say goodbye when the sun was about to set.
Wen Yu looked at the test paper that Chen Xing had done. Based on his understanding over the past few days and the contents of Chen Xing's notes, Wen Yu could roughly know where Chen Xing's weaknesses in mathematics lay.
Wen Yu said, "You're not very good at solid geometry, function problems, and the last conic section problem. You always run out of ideas after just starting to write a few."
Chen Xing listened to Wen Yu's analysis and found it quite professional and very teacher-like.
Chen Xing said, "Didn't the teacher say that? Regardless of whether you know how to do it or not, and whether you get the correct answer or not, you should always write down what you can do first. Maybe you can even get some sympathy points."
Wen Yu was almost amused by Chen Xing's optimistic attitude. Fortunately, Chen Xing met him. What was difficult for her was not a problem for Wen Yu. He still had time to teach Chen Xing how to solve it.
Wen Yu said, "Okay, it's a little late today. I'll teach you how to do math problems after you finish your exam next week."
Chen Xing remembers the knowledge points in the book very well, but she just doesn't know how to apply them flexibly, and can't think of which formula to use. This is already a big step for her.
Chen Xing could go home by herself, but Wen Yu insisted on watching her go back and even sent her downstairs.
Chen Xing said goodbye to Wen Yu with a smile. Wen Yu just smiled and waved at her, watched her get into the elevator, and then left.
It was almost six o'clock when Chen Xing got home. Usually at this time, Gao Yamei would have finished get off work and was cooking, but the person in the kitchen now was Chen Hai.
Chen Xing asked, "Dad, isn't Mom back yet?"
Chen Hai said: "Oh, your mother is working overtime today. She said she will be back later, so we don't have to wait for her for dinner."
Chen Xing responded and took his schoolbag back to his room.
Gao Yamei’s work used to be busy sometimes, but never this busy. She not only had to work overtime on weekdays, but also on Saturdays.
*
On Sunday night, Chen Xing wanted to talk to Gao Yamei during the day about going to Jinghua University to take the school entrance examination on Saturday, but she slept all day and did not leave the room until the evening, so Chen Xing could only talk about it after dinner.
After dinner in the evening, Chen Xing stopped Gao Yamei who was about to go back to her bedroom.
"Mom, I have something to tell you."
Gao Yamei looked very tired. She nodded and sat down on the sofa.
Chen Xing said, "Mom, are you free next Saturday? I'm going to Beijing to take the school exam."
Chen Xing was afraid that something might happen, so she confirmed it in advance. After all, she wouldn't be able to see Gao Yamei on weekdays.
Gao Yamei thought for a moment and said, "Do you really have to go for the school exam? Beijing is a bit far. The round trip plus the two days of your exam will take at least four days. I can't take leave recently."
Chen Xing felt the situation was not good when he heard this. "I have to go to the school exam. You promised me before. You can't go back on your word now, right?"
Gao Yamei had been in a bad mood the past few days, as things at work had not been going well. She had thought she would receive a promotion notice after the New Year, but their director gave the opportunity to someone who got into the company through connections.
Gao Yamei wanted to resign but couldn't. The economy has been in recession in recent years, and it is not easy for someone of her age to find a job. In addition, her family is burdened with heavy responsibilities, and she has to send money back to the countryside. Gao Yamei can only swallow her anger and continue to work.
Gao Yamei's tone was a bit perfunctory, and she said directly: "I don't have time, I can't take you there."
Chen Xing was already a little unhappy and asked, "What about Dad? He must have time, right?"
Gao Yamei said, "Your father doesn't have four days. He has to go to the countryside on Saturday. The old lady's illness is enough to worry your father."
"Chen Xing, can't you be more understanding of us? You're still young now, and you don't have to worry about anything except studying. When you reach our age, you'll understand how difficult it is for your father and me."
Chen Xing listened to Gao Yamei's complaints to her, and she realized that whenever her family faced a choice, her matter would always be the first option to be given up, and would never be within their consideration.
Chen Xing didn't lose her temper or show any displeasure, she just didn't want to say anything more because she knew nothing would change.
Chen Xing finally said, "Okay, I understand. I'll figure it out myself."
