Chapter 14
Zhao Lin looked stunned. When he saw the figure disappear at the door, he realized belatedly that he had ruined their relationship which was starting to improve.
“Tsk.”
He frowned and sat back on the recliner weakly. The ice pack on the table slowly melted in the sweltering heat. The water droplets seeped through the towel wrapped around it and gradually rolled into large round water beads.
He stared at the water droplets rolling down the table legs, sneered silently, closed his eyes, and simply ignored them.
After the old woman finished cleaning the kitchen and came out, there was no one in the yard except her grandson lying there. She hurried to the recliner and pulled Zhao Lin's ear to wake him up.
"Are you done with the application already? Has the swelling gone down? You left without even telling me?"
Zhao Lin was also helpless: "You are not my real grandma, you are too rough." He covered his ears and muttered a few words, but unexpectedly the old lady increased her strength.
"Now you finally remember that I'm your grandmother. I've been away from home for a few years, and it's Xixi's family who's taken care of me all these years..."
She sighed as she spoke, wiped her eyes, and turned back into the house. "I have some painkillers here. Give them to Xixi."
Zhao Lin didn't dare to say anything more and quickly took the medicine in his hand, fearing that if he was a second late, he would be nagged by his grandmother again.
After leaving the yard, he rubbed his forehead with a headache again.
"You've chosen the right person, old man. I'm still unsure whether I can deliver this batch of medicine."
Based on He Xi's reaction just now, he was not sure whether the medicine he delivered would be thrown away.
He had been hesitating for a long time and was about to knock on the door to go in when a calico cat suddenly ran past and blocked his way.
The kitten was not afraid of people at all. It circled around Zhao Lin's legs several times and meowed softly as if begging for food.
"I was just wondering how to get in."
He squatted down and stroked the kitten's head. An idea came to his mind. He took out his mobile phone, took a few photos, and sent them to the small group of five people.
He Xu pulled him into this chat group called "Pretty Girl and the Beast" at noon today.
At that time, there were constant messages ringing in the background, and when I clicked on one, I saw a few candid photos.
Military uniform and school uniform, Zhao Lin stared at the photo carefully for a long time. After all, it was the first time he saw such a wanton and pure smile on He Xi's face.

"Isn't this Huahua? When did Brother Lin become so loving?"
He Xu had been having a crazy day and was now playing games on his mobile phone. He was a little surprised to see the message suddenly pop up on the screen.
"I met a scammer."
"Looks like he's hungry."
Zhao Lin pinched the soft paw pad of the little cat with one hand, and didn't come back to his senses until the phone rang with a new message alert. He suppressed his impatience and clicked on He Xu's voice message.
"I don't have anything to feed it."
After a while, it seemed like the group became their home turf, and the other members didn't move at all.
"My sister bought cat strips...oh my god..."
He Xu was trying to do two things at once and ended up being robbed by the other party. He stopped talking midway through the curse words.
Time passed minute by minute. Zhao Lin stared at the quiet group for a while, and finally stood up helplessly to knock on the closed gate in front of him.
The summer vacation was just over halfway through, and most of the rental rooms in the yard were in darkness, leaving only a large red and white lamp outside the living room on the first floor providing lonely illumination.
After a few muffled sounds of the iron door hitting the ground, he took a few steps back with the medicine bag and looked up at the room on the second floor.
After a slow crackling sound, a slender figure, deformed by the light, leaned out, and then gradually approached, swaying in slippers.
The sound of footsteps gradually became clearer, and the cat under my feet twitched its ears a few times and began to meow, as if sending a signal to the person coming.
Zhao Lin took two steps to the side as if he was guilty of something. The light coming through the gap fell on him one after another, pulling him out of the darkness.
He Xi heard Huahua's cry before she even reached the door. She touched her pocket and nodded a few times to comfort her.
The cat outside the door heard the sound and smelled the scent, and became even more excited. It pounced forward with its two claws and scratched the iron door, making a scratching sound that hit the eardrum of the person.
"Here I come, don't worry, Huahua."
She trotted over to open the latch on the iron gate, then half-knelt down to feed cat food to the kitten that had already landed on her lap.
In my peripheral vision, the boy's shadow was spread on the ivy vine, and the gentle breeze blew it, making it a little fragmented.
She lowered her eyes secretly, listening to Huahua's meowing and couldn't help but reach out to stroke its fur. The kitten, still not satisfied, became even more anxious when she reached out, and suddenly stood up, holding her hand holding the cat food with its two front paws and eating voraciously.
The only sound in the empty alley at this time was Huahua's eating, and the two people beside her were silent.
He Xi moved his feet uncomfortably and turned his body sideways, hoping to avoid the slightly uncomfortable gaze that seemed to be falling on him.
"Here, grandma asked me to give you the medicine."
Zhao Lin was well aware of the atmosphere between the two of them. After staring at her slightly stiff face for a few seconds, he sneered and handed over the medicine bag.
The kitten swayed as she raised her arm, and then started eating without raising its head.
"Well, thank Grandma Li for me."
He Xi took the bag and her eyes finally met his, but it was only a brief touch before they left.
"Anything else?"
Zhao Lin was choked by her cold voice. The irritation that he had just suppressed in his heart seemed to be surfacing again. The words that were about to come out of his throat rolled over and over again, and in the end he didn't say another word.
The conversation came to an abrupt end, and for a moment the only sound was the rustling of the wind.
Seeing that half of the cat strips were finished, Huahua was very satisfied and stretched out with a purr.
He Xi started to stroke Hua Hua's fur, but saw it break free and start rolling around next to Zhao Lin, exposing its belly.
"You little heartless thing, I just fed you and you don't recognize me anymore!"
She stood up in a bad mood and walked to the yard. When she turned around to close the door, she glanced outside. She didn't expect that Huahua, who was full and satisfied, had completely rebelled. In the blink of an eye, she was snoring in the boy's arms with a look of enjoyment.

He Xi took some anti-inflammatory and analgesic pills and went to bed, thinking that the effect of the medicine would last until dawn. However, she was awakened by a dull pain in the middle of the night.
Turning her head to see Xiang Yuzhi sleeping soundly beside her, she reached out to grab the phone on the bedside table and turned it on.
The red and white light hit her face. She closed her eyes for a few seconds to adjust and get over the soreness in her eyes.
Among the messages in the notification bar, He Xi immediately saw the friend request notification with the note "Jiang Yue".
She turned over to her side with the phone in her hand, hesitated for a few seconds and clicked "yes", then the phone automatically jumped to the chat interface.
The screen was empty, and her eyes fell on the two words in the middle. After staring at them for a long time, she felt they were strange and abrupt.
"Are you okay?"
The sudden news startled He Xi so much that he hurriedly put the phone against his chest. He waited for a long time but didn't hear the vibration sound before he suddenly remembered that he had turned on the silent mode.
"It's pretty good." Uh... a bit stupid, no no, delete it at the speed of light.
"Why aren't you asleep yet?"
Um, no, the tone is a little...intimate, delete it!
"If it hurts, just bear with it for now. I'll take you to the hospital after daybreak."
While she was still deleting and cutting, the other party threw another sentence at her. After reading the line of words clearly, she tried her best to suppress the pain and itch that surged in her heart the next second, and typed a few words in reply.
"No, thank you."
"Well, then I'll tell Sister Xin and ask her to go with you."
This person knew how to control himself. Seeing this, He Xi was helpless and threw an angry and crazy emoticon.
"It's a deal then. I'll go over there tomorrow and bring you breakfast."
"ha?"
She couldn't understand how things had turned out like this so suddenly.
"No, really."
"Are you sure? My mom just steamed these buns tonight."
He Xi couldn't help but drool from the corners of his eyes.
As they walked back and forth, the sky outside the window turned slightly blue, and behind him, Xiang Yuzhi moaned, not knowing what she was dreaming about.
He Xi then quietly turned off the screen. She unconsciously pursed the corners of her mouth that had been raised without her knowing when, as if she was afraid that the person on the other end of the phone would notice it.
