Chapter 23

Chapter 23

"Just call me by my name, don't keep calling me..."

He Xi didn't know what was wrong with Zhao Lin. She always felt that the word "sister" had a different meaning when it came out of his mouth.

After she finished speaking, the boy in front of her was stunned and didn't say anything.

"Are you feeling better? If not, should we go to the school infirmary?"

The boy's eyes fell blankly on one place, and he returned to his previous indifferent look.

He Xi saw that he didn't speak for a long time and his patience was a little exhausted.

"Would you like... another bottle?"

"No, I asked for leave."

Zhao Lin stood up with the help of the railing, but he still felt a little dizzy.

"Just go back and rest."

He Xi put his hands on his hips and watched him take a few steps. His steps were messy and it was obvious that his feet were weak.

She turned around and looked around. The girl who had been with Zhao Lin earlier was nowhere to be seen. There were quite a few people in the shady corridor, but the eyes they cast upon them were all inquiring and scrutinizing.

All thanks to Zhao Lin, they all seemed to think she was an unreliable and cold-blooded "sister".

"Hey—"

Seeing that the boy was about to fall forward, several girls nearby quickly grabbed him.

The moment He Xi noticed it, he quickly ran to Zhao Lin's side.

"Can you still walk? If not, I'll ask someone to carry you to the infirmary, okay?"

Several girls nodded in agreement, scanning the passers-by for suitable targets.

"Not to the infirmary. I want to go home."

He Xi simply hated this man's stubbornness. After thanking the people who helped her, she resigned herself to her fate and dragged his arm, supporting him as they walked out of the school.

"Not going to grandma's."

The boy gave instructions to the people around him like a young master. He Xi glanced at him and said nothing more.

When they arrived at the west gate, Mr. He Er looked at Zhao Lin, who looked sick, and shook his head repeatedly.

"This young man is really untrained. He's just starting out!"

"If I were to say, it would have to be the kid from the Jiang family. Not only is his academic performance top-notch, but he's also physically strong. He's been getting up early and working late these days to help his mom run the breakfast stall. He's a man who can endure hardships."

What the hell is going on!

Seeing the impatience in the eyes of the people around him, He Xi quickly interrupted the second uncle and borrowed the landline in the security booth to ask for leave from the class teacher.

Although Zhao Lin's house was not far from the school, it still took her some effort to support and drag him back.

"You should have medicine at home, right?"

The two finally got into the elevator. Zhao Lin leaned on the elevator handrail consciously, and He Xi's almost exhausted brain finally started working again.

"Well, I think so."

Zhao Lin's mind became much clearer and the medicine had begun to take effect.

But his answer was still gloomy, and only he knew what he was thinking.

The elevator continued to climb higher and higher until it stopped with a ding and the doors slowly opened to both sides.

When He Xi came to Zhao Lin's residence for the first time, he had a feeling as soon as he got out of the elevator. As expected, when the door opened, he saw a deserted room.

"How do you feel now?"

She is familiar with several clinics and pharmacies on Yixing Street, and if that doesn't work, she can visit them at their home.

"I just took some medicine. Let me take it easy for a while."

Zhao Lin flopped onto the sofa as soon as he entered the house. Sunlight streamed in from the living room, and he raised his forearm to shield his eyes from view, looking slightly annoyed.

He Xi looked around and his gaze finally fell on the sofa.

The boy's originally pale face was bathed in the setting sun, and his straight nose and clean chin seemed to be covered with a layer of gold powder, appearing vague and hazy, which made people inexplicably feel pity for him.

"Where's your medicine box?"

He Xi forced herself to look away, and after two or three seconds she spoke. After finding the medicine box and giving Zhao Lin instructions, she had to leave quickly.

Her sixth sense had already sounded the alarm, and she always felt that something unbearable was about to happen.

"It's in the drawer of the bedside table in the bedroom."

Zhao Lin caught a cold last night. Not long after he started training in the morning, he felt dizzy and weak in his limbs. He couldn't hold on until the afternoon.

The symptoms were relieved a lot after taking the medicine, but the sleepiness made my thoughts slow down by several beats.

Just before he drifted off to sleep, something in his mind suddenly snapped.

"boom--"

He felt all the blood in his body rushing to his head, and he instantly woke up. He used all his strength to turn over and ran to the bedroom door.

But in the end, I was still a step too slow.

Zhao Lin looked at the stack of sketch papers held in He Xi's hand. The girl's eyes were cold and it was impossible to tell whether she was happy or angry.

"that……"

"Sorry, I found it while looking for the medicine box. I didn't mean to pry into your privacy."

He Xi stuffed the medicine box into Zhao Lin's arms, and when she was about to leave, the boy grabbed her arm tightly.

"You saw it all."

The sketch paper on the top was her second time looking at it, and the real thing looked more vivid than in the picture.

"Don't hate me, okay?"

Zhao Lin opened his mouth and only said this in the end.

He Xi's mind was in a mess, and he subconsciously tried to break free from the restraints on his wrist. He shook it hard a few times, but the grip on his wrist did not loosen at all.

She turned sideways and glanced back, her eyes falling on the boy's face. His expression was stubborn and pitiful.

"Let go, and I can pretend nothing happened."

As soon as he finished speaking, He Xi saw a hint of embarrassment in Zhao Lin's eyes.

The force on her wrist gradually loosened, and she turned around and walked out without hesitation.

With a clang, the door of the entrance hall seemed to tremble in my heart.

The medicine box rolled to the floor, and Zhao Lin collapsed in front of the bed as if exhausted.

Everything was messed up in the end. He messed it up from the very beginning.

"Do you think you can start over by escaping back to Lancheng? Have you forgotten everything you've done?"

"My blood is flowing in your body, and it can't be cut off just like that..."

Zhao Lin grabbed his hair with both hands. The tinnitus in his ears, which was sometimes strong and sometimes weak, made him uneasy and his head splitting.

He clenched his fists and hit his head hard several times. The dizziness that followed made it difficult for him to distinguish between fantasy and reality.

"Yuanyuan, be good. Take the medicine and have a good sleep. You'll be fine. Ah—open your mouth..."

"It's not hard at all. Our Yuanyuan is the strongest and bravest!"

Zhao Lin touched the medicine bag beside him, opened it tremblingly and poured the medicine into his mouth.

I swallowed the round pills into my mouth, and a few of them bounced onto my body and then rolled to the floor, making a slight tinkling sound.

"Why are you lying on the ground? Get up, the ground is dirty!"

A clear female voice floated from a distance, and Zhao Lin felt a pair of gentle hands trying to pull him up with difficulty.

"Sister, is that you?"

He struggled to open his eyes and reached out to clear away the clouds that blocked his vision.

"Don't hate me, okay, sister?"

He was afraid to see wariness and disgust in her eyes.

But from the first moment they met again, she had classified him as dangerous.
