Chapter 1 A Different Tang Dynasty

The Tang Dynasty's prosperity was indeed remarkable, as subsequent generations consistently sent people there, and today, the Fifth Prince is also sending someone there!

This story is entirely fictional, and any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental and may be intentional on the part of the author.

I'll just ramble on for now, you can just read it for now! No need to criticize if you don't like it!

…………………………………………

Sunset, ancient road, west wind, and a lean horse! This is a real lean horse, not the one from Yangzhou later. There are three other people walking on the road, their shadows long, very long in the setting sun!

Lacking any poetic or picturesque charm, the overgrown weeds along the road indicated its desolation, suggesting few travelers. So much so that the wild grass stubbornly grew from beneath the pebbles.

Qin Mu was exhausted, but he had no choice but to keep going. This was not the peaceful era of later generations. If he wanted to settle down, he had to find that uncle as soon as possible, that very famous uncle.

The skinny horse was carrying the three people's luggage, so it was obviously impossible for him to ride it, especially since the horse was already as thin as a mule.

They came from a remote mountain village, a village almost isolated from the world. Although the villagers asked them to stay and said they would take good care of them, they still followed the dying wish of the mother of this body and went to seek refuge with relatives.

Fortunately, that relative had a great reputation, and Qin Mu happened to know where he was.

In fact, Qin Mu was not from this world. He didn't know why, but when he woke up, he found himself in this world. However, tragically, as soon as he woke up, the original owner of this body's mother fell critically ill, leaving behind a will, an old servant, and an old woman.

They made inquiries along the way and headed towards Youzhou. Although the distance was not far, only a few counties apart, given that communication relied on shouting and transportation relied on walking, they had already been traveling for more than ten days.

Qin Mu knew this was the Tang Dynasty, but it was different from what he remembered. He learned from the cities he passed that it was now the first year of the Zhenguan era, and a major event had indeed occurred last year: Li Shimin, who was originally just the Prince of Qin, ascended the throne.

It's already April. If I remember correctly, I should have died in January when I went to seek refuge with that relative. That's how it's recorded in both official and unofficial histories.

That's right! Qin Mu is now certain that he has traveled to the Tang Dynasty, because he is going to seek refuge with Prince Yan, Luo Yi! Although his mother did not know that Luo Yi was the Prince of Yan because they lived in a remote mountain village, she had learned that Luo Yi was the Prince of Yan and lived in Youzhou.

However, this is different from historical records. The book records that Luo Yi started a rebellion in the first month of the first year of Zhenguan and was eventually killed. Now it has been four months, and this place is Youzhou. If such a big thing happened, it is impossible that there would be no rumors.

Another problem is that Qin Mu already knows that the father of this body is the famous Qin Qiong, but Qin Qiong and Luo Yi are not related; any connection is merely fictional. This leaves him somewhat bewildered, not understanding how this world works.

The best course of action, of course, is to follow the mother's dying wish and go to Luo Yi for refuge; at least this is a very accurate piece of information.

"Brother! Hang in there a little longer. I heard there's a Taoist temple up ahead. We can go there and stay the night."

Although they had known each other for half a month, Qin Mu was still not used to being called "Da Lang". His lips twitched, and then he smiled and said, "It's okay, Aunt Wang, I can manage."

"We're already in Wuzhong County. In two or three days, we'll be able to see Master Wang," Wang Ma said happily with a smile. This was the first time Qin Mu had seen her smile in so many days; clearly, the fate of the three of them was a heavy burden on her shoulders.

The old servant wasn't old, but he was honest and simple-minded. Besides being obedient and doing his work, he didn't know how to do anything else and rarely offered his opinions. That was why Wang Ma was worried about him. She always felt that one was a young master who had never left home, and the other was a simple-minded servant, so she should give him more consideration.

After walking for another half hour, they found a Taoist temple ahead. Although the dilapidated temple in the middle of nowhere was a bit eerie, the three of them had no other choice but to camp in the wilderness.

The three stepped forward, and Wang Ma knocked on the door knocker of the Taoist temple.

The small Taoist temple no longer has its plaque; if it weren't for the statue of a deity enshrined at the entrance, probably no one would think it was a Taoist temple.

The dilapidated wooden door looked as if it would collapse with a single push. After Wang Ma knocked on the door, the three of them waited quietly. Before long, they heard footsteps coming from inside.

With a creak, the door opened a crack, and a head poked out, asking, "Who are you looking for?"

"Greetings, young Taoist priest. We would like to ask to stay here for the night. Would you be so kind as to do us this favor?" Wang Ma asked with a smile.

"Wait a minute, I need to ask my master," the young man dressed as a Taoist apprentice said after glancing at the three of them.

"Thank you for your trouble."

The young Taoist didn't close the door, but turned and ran inside. The three waited for a while, and then they heard footsteps again. The door opened halfway, and a middle-aged Taoist priest wearing a blue robe and with a willow beard smiled and said, "Please come in, you three."

"Thank you, Daoist Master." Qin Mu and Wang Ma said their thanks at the same time.

It was a simple Taoist temple with only one main hall. We led the three of them from the side of the main hall along a bluestone path to the back.

"The place is simple, please make do with it. There are only two guest rooms here, and the kitchen is next door," the middle-aged Taoist priest explained.

"Thank you, Daoist Master. May I ask your name?" Qin Mu asked, performing a Daoist salute.

"This humble Taoist is Zhiyuan! Please make yourselves at home."

After Master Zhiyuan left, Wang Ma went to cook. The old servant Uncle Zhong unloaded the things from the horse's back and, before it got dark, went to feed the horse nearby, which meant leading the horse to graze.

With nothing else to do, Qin Mu wanted to see what was enshrined in the main hall of the Taoist temple. This was his first time entering a Taoist temple since coming to this world, so it was understandable that he was curious.

As soon as he walked to the side, he saw two Taoist priests practicing their skills. When they saw Qin Mu coming over, they both stopped at the same time.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know you two were practicing martial arts." Qin Mu couldn't turn around and leave, so he quickly cupped his hands in apology.

“Don’t worry about it, layman. This is just our daily practice as master and disciple. There’s nothing secret about it,” Zhiyuan said with a smile.

"Qin Mu, I apologize for disturbing you two. Daoist, are you practicing martial arts or health cultivation techniques?" Qin Mu asked curiously.

"Of course it's Taoist health cultivation techniques. Martial arts are for martial artists. You're a scholar, aren't you? Don't you even know this?" the young Taoist priest asked.

"Should I know?" Qin Mu asked blankly.

“Chunfeng, please don’t be rude. Layman Qin has not yet made up his mind, so he cannot see what we are cultivating,” Master Zhiyuan said gently.
