Chapter 20: Tensions Rise, Ready to Erupt

The woman was being held hostage on horseback by the man, who had a dagger pressed against her chin, forcing her to tilt her head back slightly.

In fact, if Li Ruo didn't want to be captured, the fourth leader would never have succeeded.

Even if she were caught, she could easily finish him off with a flick of her wrist and a hidden arrow.

Li Ruo only thought for a fleeting moment when she was arrested that perhaps this method would be faster.

Song Zhijing valued his reputation and honor. Even if he disliked her, he would not shoot his first wife, who was General Li's daughter, in front of the soldiers. He would definitely take her back.

She was just looking for an excuse to go back to the city to take care of some business and settle things with him.

"When we get back, I, Yuan Hao, will let you deal with me as you see fit," the fourth leader whispered in her ear.

"You'd better remember this." It's one thing for Li Ruo to cooperate with him, but it's quite another for him to kidnap her without her prior consent.

The atmosphere was extremely tense.

Although the other soldiers maintained their offensive posture, they dared not make any rash moves because the prefect's wife was not far away.

One breath, two breaths, three breaths...

Tensions were high, and a conflict could erupt at any moment.

The surrounding woods crackled and popped as they burned, the flames reflecting red onto everyone's faces.

Li Ruo looked at Song Zhijing.

Song Zhi stared intently at Li Ruo.

This woman always gets in his way at crucial moments, why?

Women are not important to him; he knows exactly what he wants. But if he were to shoot his own wife in front of his soldiers, it would chill their hearts.

Li Ruo was terrified. "Husband, I'm so scared!" Ugh!

I almost couldn't resist throwing a hidden arrow at him.

The woman's tears (or rather, the tears) made Song Zhijing pause for a moment.

The fourth leader roared, "Retreat twenty miles immediately! Let all our brothers go down the mountain, or your wife will be killed on the spot."

Little Li looked at the Fourth Master, not quite in favor, but since things had come to this point, he could only cooperate, leading his men to protect them and not give Song Zhijing any opportunity to take advantage.

Song Zhijing's reddened eyes suddenly darkened.

Slowly, he put the bow and arrows away, gritting his teeth as he said, "I can retreat, but you must return the person to me at the same time."

Fourth Master: "After you step back, your wife can be picked up at the Ten Mile Pavilion north of the city. If you are worried, you can send twenty men to accompany her, but only twenty men."

The Beishan army retreated down the mountain.

The fourth leader signaled to Little Li to meet the first leader and take another route down the mountain directly back to General Mountain. He then led Li Ruo and another group of men to retreat to Shili Pavilion.

Little Li went up to meet Xie Xiao and said, "Boss, that's great, you guys are alright."

"How did you manage to get up here? Where are Song Zhijing and his soldiers?" Xie Xiao asked.

Little Li said sheepishly, "Boss, don't be angry, it's like this..."

A moment later, Xiao Li was kicked off his horse by Xie Xiao.

Xie Xiao's eyes were filled with despair. "Everyone, follow me to Shili Pavilion!"
