My heartbeat is out of control

My heartbeat is out of control

Summer,

It was another weekend afternoon.

You stand at the study window, looking at the scenery outside with a surprised expression. Not far from the window stands a tall sapling, swaying in the wind, revealing new leaves nestled among the old ones. You planted it in the yard in early spring this year on a whim and then neglected it. When you planted it, it was less than your waist, but now it is as tall as an adult, with branches two or three times thicker than before. Countless leaves are blooming at the same time, and buds are showing signs of sprouting upwards.

It was only half a meter tall when it was planted, but now it has grown to two meters tall without anyone taking care of it. Who wouldn't be surprised by its lush growth?

But why are only trees growing and not weeds? Just as you were wondering, your gaze shifted downwards and you saw that the soil near the saplings was damp, as if someone had watered it beforehand, and you immediately understood.

Yes, there is another person in this family besides you, Chen Peiyuan.

The scene unconsciously comes to mind: he not only runs and waters the plants in the morning, but also makes breakfast for two.

This person really has a lot of energy.

You look at the tree in the yard again, wondering what it will look like the next time you look at it.

Thinking this, you turned back to your seat. There was a computer on the desk, turned on, with the screen glowing blue, indicating that the file had been unzipped. Secretary Liu had just sent you a compressed file, saying it was to report on the previous results. As you unzipped the file, you stood up to relax and looked into the distance. Unexpectedly, you saw the small tree that you had planted in the yard a few months ago.

Now that the decompression is complete, you click the mouse to open it, and a lot of files, screenshots, and videos will pop up instantly.

You browse through them one by one, becoming more and more satisfied, and a smile can't be contained on your face.

When Chen Peiyuan came in, he saw you sitting at the computer desk, looking at him with bright eyes, waving at him, and your smile was so wide it almost stretched to the back of your head.

So cute! He lowered his head, covered his mouth, and couldn't help but laugh. He didn't know what was going on, but seeing you laugh made his heart melt instantly. Lanlan, your smile is so sweet.

"Come quick, come quick."

When he saw you urging him again, he immediately composed himself and went over.

"Hey, look!" You're probably too excited. You can't wait for him to come up to you. When he's still a few steps away, you grab his arm, pull him to the computer, point to the content on the screen, and make him look.

Chen Peiyuan naturally bent over following your force, his head hovering above yours, one hand resting naturally on the back of the chair to stabilize his body.

Anyone passing by would see through the transparent window that in the square room, a computer desk stood in the center, the computer on. A well-built adult male was half-bent over, his arm around a woman in front of him. The two were so close that it seemed they could touch each other if they were just a step closer. The woman was excitedly pointing at the computer, seemingly telling the man something happy. When she turned around, her face was revealed, and it was striking. Her beautiful, clean face seemed to glow in the dim light. The man's eyes weren't on the computer; instead, they were fixed on the woman's every smile and gesture. Her eyes were soft, and she smiled as she happily talked to him, unaware of the deep affection in his smiling eyes.

But in your excitement, you are completely unaware of how close you are to him, and you are eager to share this joy with him.

"Remember that wedding photo video of ours? The one where someone filmed us and it went viral. I had Secretary Liu guide it a bit, and it worked really well. Do you know how much the new store has made in the last few days? This number!" You said, gesturing a number to Chen Peiyuan.

Although you know this will bring some exposure to the store, this feeling is strong when you receive Secretary Liu's documents. As you read on, you can't help but be shocked. When you see Secretary Liu's summary and profit statement at the end, you are even more shocked. The turnover in half a month far exceeds the turnover of other stores in nearly half a year.

This result made you completely restless, and you were eager to share this joy with the people around you. You hurriedly called out to Chen Peiyuan, and Chen Peiyuan was the first person that came to your mind.

You were telling Chen Peiyuan all this until your throat was dry, and you stopped. Just as you were about to get up to get some water, a glass of water was handed to you. You looked over in surprise and met a pair of deep eyes. Those eyes were fixed on you, dazzling and drawing you in. You felt as if those dark, deep oceans held many secrets. Only then did you realize that you two were too close, so close that you would touch each other if you moved even slightly. You were shocked and pushed him away. The movement was so big that your body wobbled and you couldn't control yourself. You were about to fall, so you could only close your eyes and cover your head to protect yourself and avoid further injury.

"Bang." "Clatter."

After two sounds, you felt yourself tumbling through the air before finally crashing into a fleshy wall. You slowly reached down and felt around, and with a muffled groan, you realized it was a warm body, not the cold ground you had imagined. As the fleshy wall breathed, you rose and fell with it. You slowly opened your eyes and saw Chen Peiyuan lying on the ground, his face deathly pale with pain, his hands still tightly holding you. Your hands were braced against his chest. Not far from you were broken pieces of glass on the ground, and water was slowly spreading across the floor.

"Hmm." Chen Peiyuan groaned, his breathing becoming rapid. After being pushed away, he saw you about to fall to the ground. He didn't have time to control the water. To protect you, he threw the water cup aside and immediately grabbed you and threw you to the other side, flipping himself over to cushion your fall. Thank goodness, thank goodness you're alright.

Seeing that his complexion was getting worse, you quickly got up, sat down to the side, and patted his chest to help him catch his breath. Only after he recovered did you feel relieved.

"Yes, I'm sorry, it's all my fault for overreacting."

You looked down at the ground. If you hadn't pushed him, none of this would have happened. The more you thought about it, the more you felt it was your fault. Your face was crestfallen, and your eyes started to well up with tears. You didn't want to cry, and you didn't want him to see your current expression.

A hand slowly rests on your hand that's on your knee. You see that you don't pull your hand away. He says in a hoarse voice, "It's okay, Lanlan. I scared you."

Chen Peiyuan tried to sit up, and you quickly supported his back. He took the opportunity to hug you for support and held you in his arms. Then he took out a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped away the tears from the corners of your eyes.

"Lanlan, don't cry, I'm fine." His heart ached from crying. When he saw you trying to get up, he started groaning in pain, scaring you so much that you didn't dare to move, afraid of touching any of your injuries. Seeing that you didn't move, a smile flashed in his eyes. He wanted to seize this opportunity, because he didn't know when he would be able to hug you again.

You were held in Chen Peiyuan's arms, sitting sideways. The awkward position had been maintained for a long time, and your limbs were numb. You couldn't help but struggle a little, but the next moment Chen Peiyuan held you tightly again. The man cried out in pain, and your mind went blank as if it were covered in mud. You were coaxed into thinking that the pain would go away if you were held. When the man saw that you were really coaxed and obediently let him hold you, he couldn't help but chuckle.

Hearing that laugh, it was like rain washing away the mud from your head, instantly bringing you to your senses. You realized you'd been tricked, and your face flushed red. You broke free from his embrace and whispered, "Chen, Chen Peiyuan, let me go. I need to get ready." You got up and walked towards the door, still not daring to look at him.

You slammed the door shut, leaned against it, panting, your face flushed, and clutched your heart, which was pounding rapidly. You tried to calm yourself, but it was no use. Just thinking about how the man had hugged you, the warmth of his fingertips, and his eyes so close to yours made your heart race uncontrollably.

Damn it, it was just a hug, why did you jump around like that? You bit your lip, cursing yourself for being so impulsive. Normally, you shouldn't have reacted to such contact, what's wrong with you now! You squatted on the ground, scratching your hair, your racing heart bringing you frustration. You felt that something had changed without your knowledge, and you hated this unknown change, like a businessman not knowing whether a crazy gamble would lead to overnight riches or bankruptcy. You didn't know whether the consequences of this unknown were good or bad for you.

Just then, the door behind you suddenly opened, and your body fell backward due to inertia. Fortunately, you were prepared this time and managed to brace yourself with your hands in time. Before you could see what was happening, you heard a voice coming from above.

"Lanlan, what's this?" Chen Peiyuan looked down at you, holding a bag in his hand. The bag was irregularly shaped and bulged, resembling shards of glass. He looked at you with surprise as you sat by the door, seemingly puzzled as to why you were sitting there.

You sat on the floor, looked up at him with an awkward chuckle, and opened your mouth to explain, but then stopped abruptly. Should you explain that you came out to get something to tidy up the messy study but ended up squatting by the door, or should you explain that you felt too embarrassed inside and wanted to escape by squatting by the door? No matter which explanation you gave, you were too embarrassed to say it.

So, under his gaze, you slowly stood up, dusted yourself off, gave him a chuckle, turned and ran quickly upstairs, making your escape.

This is the first time in your twenty-odd years that you've resorted to running away to solve a problem.

You dare not imagine what expression he has behind you; it might be surprise, or it might be mockery.

Regardless of which one it is, you can't control it now; all you can do is hug your pillow and bury yourself under the covers.

Force yourself to completely forget everything that happened today.
