The Ending Part 1
'Ding~ We've arrived at the 42nd floor.'
The moment the elevator doors opened, a wave of heat rushed towards you, followed by a cacophony of voices—all sorts of voices, men and women, sharp and rough, clattering together like an unpleasant melody. For a fleeting moment, you thought you'd stumbled into a band rehearsal.
The noisy crowd didn't notice that someone had taken the elevator up, or perhaps they did but didn't care.
Shouldn't the hospital be quiet at this time? You stared blankly at the scene before you. Before getting on the elevator, you glanced at the clock on the wall: 12:25. Although you didn't know what the hospital was like at this time, you could probably guess from the quiet surroundings when you were awake on the first floor that it was probably the hospital's closing time.
So, is it normal for this group of people to be here? You glanced at the note in your hand again: Room 4206, 42nd floor. This is the 42nd floor; you haven't come to the wrong place.
In just a few seconds, you stand still, countless thoughts flashing through your mind, unaware that the elevator doors are slowly closing.
Then someone pressed the button for you, and the elevator doors opened again.
Attracted by the sound of the elevator rubbing, you look up and see a familiar face. After thinking for a moment, you realize it seems to be Chen Peiyuan's assistant.
"Hello, Mr. Chen. I'm President Chen Peiyuan's assistant. The president asked me to come and pick you up. This way, please." The man said softly, smiling as he leaned down towards you, placing one hand on the elevator door to prevent it from closing, and extending the other hand outward with its palm facing up.
You nodded slightly to indicate that you understood, and stepped out of the elevator.
"Is your CEO feeling better?"
"Mr. Chen will know when he sees it."
The conversation ended. You pursed your lips, unable to get a single answer. You looked down at the ground, letting out a sigh of relief. Oh well, you'll see it soon enough.
Based on just this short sentence, you vaguely sensed that Chen Peiyuan's injury might not be as serious as you had imagined, and you felt inexplicably relieved.
The assistant led the way, walking at a moderate pace, clearly adjusted for you. You followed the assistant's footsteps, turning left and right in the corridor, until you finally arrived at a door.
The room number on the door reads '2406', VIP room.
"Please." The assistant stepped forward and gesturing for you to enter.
The moment the door was opened, light spilled in, and you suddenly felt hesitant. You didn't want to go in, and you were even more afraid to go in.
The light extended from the inside out, illuminating the dim ground in front of you. You looked down and saw green checkered patterns. The bright color made your eyes blink a few times, and it felt itchy and uncomfortable.
I don't know who said green is good for the eyes, but this green is clearly very glaring.
"Mr. Chen?" the assistant called out again.
You hummed in agreement, moved, and stepped into the light ahead.
Passing through the light curtain, everything inside the door came into view.
Almost instantly, you see the hospital bed in the center of the room, with the person lying on it, covered in tubes.
If it wasn't a gunshot wound, why is there so many tubes inserted into his body?
You slowly walk over until his face is gradually revealed, and when you see his whole face, you can't help but blurt out.
"So thin."
She was so thin that even with her eyes closed, you could see the sunken contours of her body. Her nose and the area below it were completely confined in a breathing mask, and her entire body was covered in tubes with no openings in sight. The heart that had just settled down was now hanging in suspense again.
How can anyone feel at ease with this?
A handkerchief was handed over. "Mr. Chen, why don't you wipe yourself?"
Your assistant walked in unnoticed, looking at you with a worried expression.
Plop, a drop of water landed on the blanket, spreading out in a small patch. Just as you were wondering where the drop came from, you saw a second drop, and then a third.
You were about to wipe the blanket with a handkerchief when your assistant immediately stopped you.
"Mr. Chen, yes, here." The assistant hesitated and pointed to his face.
Only then did you realize that you had been crying. When you touched it, you felt a wet sensation, and tears streamed down your face uncontrollably. You didn't even realize when you had started crying.
Numbly wiping away her tears, she stared straight at Chen Peiyuan lying on the bed, her heart feeling as if it were being torn apart.
Your heart aches. This is the first time you've felt your emotions so directly. You're heartbroken to see Chen Peiyuan injured. Seeing him lying pale on the hospital bed even made you cry. Just five days ago, he was alive and kicking in front of you, and now he's in this state. You should laugh at him and despise him, you should be happy. But right now, you're so sad, so sad that he's injured. If only you were there, if only you could have stopped this tragedy from happening.
"President Chen, let's eat first. Actually, the president is out of danger. He just needs to rest for a while. The wound is on his shoulder. The president has tried his best to avoid injuring vital areas, and the rescue was timely, so the wound is not serious."
The assistant reappeared, placed the packed lunchbox on the coffee table, and explained as he opened the lid.
You nod to show that you heard, and remain seated without moving.
The assistant simply sighed slightly, bowed, and said he would leave first.
He has said what he needed to say; the actions of important figures are beyond his control.
Later, you stayed by the hospital bedside for two consecutive days.
Chen Peiyuan still hadn't woken up, and you gradually became anxious. While handling your work, you observed his condition, constantly asking the doctor about matters, and giving the doctor an ultimatum: if he didn't wake up, you should fire him and make it impossible for him to stay in his job.
Okay, the first two sentences are true, the rest is what the assistant imagined. In his mind, President Chen is now a female demon.
"Waaaaah, President, please wake up! We don't want to live under President Chen's rule anymore! She's a terrifying woman! Waaaaah, we want to go back to your territory and be led by you again! Waaaaah, President, please get well soon..."
While you were out talking to the doctor, the assistant knelt by the bedside, sobbing and complaining to the sleeping president. Ever since CEO Chen took over their company's affairs a couple of days ago, he had made their lives miserable. Only then did they realize how kind and gentle the president was to them.
When you come in, you see a man kneeling in front of Chen Peiyuan's bed, his eyes blurred with tears, looking ugly. The way he's mourning for him makes you think you're attending Chen Peiyuan's funeral. You put on a stern face, feeling obligated to stop him from continuing like this.
"Assistant Qin!"
"Is the plan ready?"
"No! Please give me a little more time, Mr. Chen." The assistant immediately straightened up, startled by your words, and quickly wiped away his tears and slunk away.
Seeing his frightening expression, like a mouse seeing a cat, you couldn't help but sigh. In the past two days, besides being busy with your own affairs, you also took over some matters of Chen Peiyuan's company and spent two unpleasant working days with his employees, experiencing some minor frictions, but to you, they were all trivial matters.
only.
The man on the bed has been unconscious for two days. You gently wipe his hands with a handkerchief, a habit you've developed over the past two days, so natural that the first time you did it, it felt as if you'd done it countless times.
"I've already heard about your heroic deeds; you did a great job..."
It was more than just good. During the five days you were imprisoned, Chen Peiyuan, together with the police, captured Feng Juewei, Huan Yuanzhang, and Wu Zhou, who were attempting to kill you to silence you. Those three were arrogant at the time, yelling at the police, "Do you know who my father is? You dare to arrest me?" The police officers did not react at all, but simply pressed their hands down harder, causing them to scream in pain.
The next day, A-Qiang presented the evidence he had prepared in advance and took the three-day case to court. Some of the evidence was from Chen Peiyuan's secret investigation, but more importantly, it was video evidence provided by A-Qiang showing their private transactions and murders. This powerful evidence directly sealed their fate.
The judge raised his gavel and brought it down heavily, sealing the verdict, "...Death penalty, to be carried out immediately in three days."
Now, the three arrogant men sat on the stools, utterly dejected, unable to utter a single word.
Unfortunately, you didn't get to see this exhilarating scene, and you sighed again.
Lately, you've been sighing a lot, and I don't know why.
You put down the handkerchief and glanced at him. His eyebrows and eyes were pale, and his lips were devoid of any color. If it weren't for the slight rise and fall of his chest reminding you that he was still alive, you probably wouldn't know what you would do.
Why isn't he awake yet? You looked at the patient in bed suspiciously. He had clearly said he would probably wake up today.
The doctor was also very curious. Every day at 10 o'clock sharp, Miss Chen would appear at the door and immediately ask him why Mr. Chen Peiyuan had not woken up yet. Looking at the aggressive Miss Chen in front of him, the doctor was inwardly distressed. He also did not know why Mr. Chen had not woken up. His wounds were clearly healing, but he remained unconscious. He was so worried that he dreamed day and night that Mr. Chen Peiyuan, lying in the hospital bed, would really sleep forever. He was so frightened that he rushed to the hospital before dawn to examine Mr. Chen Peiyuan again.
Perhaps many people were calling out to him, or perhaps he had slept enough. One sunny afternoon, he opened his eyes and stared at the pure white wall. He blinked, felt thirsty, and raised his weak hand to call for help. But then he heard a cry of alarm, followed by footsteps and a pitiful voice, "Doctor, doctor, come quick! He's come back to life! He's come back to life!"
Chen Peiyuan was startled by the sound, his mind a blur, wondering if this "zombie" was referring to him.
The doctor's angry voice continued, "Don't talk nonsense. There is no such thing as a corpse coming back to life in the world, let alone in broad daylight."
He only heard the male voice seem to pause for a moment, then shout again, changing his words, "Doctor, doctor, the patient has come back to life, please take a look!"
......
"Cough cough." He choked on his breath. If this person were his employee, he might have been so angry that he would have died.
He listened quietly. There seemed to be no more noise outside. The doctor who had argued earlier was also silent, probably angered by his words and no longer paying attention to him.
But he was so thirsty, he really wanted to drink water.
Knowing he could no longer rely on outsiders, Chen Peiyuan thought for three seconds, calculating the probability of him going to the water. Finally, he slowly and deliberately tried to sit up, but this one step took a long time. He endured the dizziness of the ceiling and the ground, and walked step by step towards the table next to him, supporting himself against the wall.
There was a teapot and a cup on the table, still steaming, clearly just poured in, probably by the person who had just been there. Next to them were three cups upside down on the table, bottom facing up, which was Chen Peiyuan's target. He was determined to get that cup and pour himself a drink.
Three meters, two meters, one meter, almost there.
Chen Peiyuan swallowed hard, trying to moisten his parched throat, and his hand unconsciously reached out, even though that spot was right in front of him.
He had been lying down for too long, and his body, sustained only by intravenous nutrition, was extremely weak. He could only walk less than half a meter before he had to stop and rest for a few minutes.
He walked a few steps and rested for a while, eventually moving himself to the table. He slowly slid down the wall and leaned against it, giving himself a few seconds to catch his breath.
His lips, trembling and pale from extreme dehydration, were protesting. His vision was blurry, and he was almost collapsing.
"Chen Peiyuan, do you want some water?"
Just as he was about to faint against the wall, a glass of water was placed on his lips in time. A warm, sweet liquid slid down his throat, finally extinguishing the burning sensation in his throat. He couldn't wait to grab the hand holding the glass and drink it in big gulps.
Chen Peiyuan couldn't help but tilt his head back, wanting to see the face of the person who brought him water. As soon as he looked, his eyes widened slightly and then curved into a half-closed shape. A beautiful and familiar face appeared before him, and he couldn't help but smile.
"Why are you crying?" the woman sighed, reaching out to wipe away the tears streaming down his face. As soon as she finished wiping, another tear fell, as if the tears would never end.
"Lanlan".
Chen Peiyuan touched the hand that had been wiping his tears with his other hand, holding it tightly in his own.
You responded and, seeing that he had finished his glass, asked him if he wanted another one. He nodded, so you poured him another glass.
This time he had the strength to hold the glass of water, but he would steal glances at you. You pretended not to notice, and waited for him to finish drinking before refilling the glass. Finally, you stopped when he said he had had enough.
You help him lie down on the bed, and during this process he keeps holding onto you and won't let go. So when you try to press him down so he can lie down, he still holds on to you, and naturally you end up being pulled onto the bed by him.
"Ah, Chen Peiyuan, don't hold me like that! It'll be terrible if we both fall down!" You struggled against his chest, trying to sit up.
Although the hospital bed is not small, your movements will still be somewhat restricted. On the one hand, you are afraid of hurting him and dare not exert force, and on the other hand, you are afraid of falling off the bed because the bed is not wide.
"Lanlan, don't go. I feel so dizzy. I just want to hug you. Just a hug will make me feel better. Please, don't go. Lanlan, don't push me away."
Chen Peiyuan spoke with his eyes closed, his grip on you tight as he held you close, afraid that you might accidentally leave him.
You were stunned when you heard this, as if all your strength had vanished. You stopped what you were doing, looked at his pale face, and felt a pang of sadness and heartache.
Chen Peiyuan took the opportunity to hug you tightly. After drinking the water, he lay contentedly on the bed, and holding his beloved, he immediately relaxed.
You leaned against his chest and saw him dozing off with his eyes closed, no longer talking. You thought he had fallen asleep and were about to get up when you suddenly saw him open his eyes as if startled awake. Just as you were wondering what was going on, you saw him pull up the blanket that had fallen to the side and cover himself with it, and also cover yourself with it, while muttering something.
"Lanlan is cold, let me cover you with a blanket."
You hear his steady breathing and the rhythmic beating of his heart as you stare at the whitewashed wall, your mind blank.
I thought I would get up after Chen Peiyuan fell asleep, but the sound of his breathing and heartbeat was like a lullaby. Gradually, I could no longer see the white, and everything in front of me turned into darkness.
for a long time,
The ward door was gently pushed open, and the person took a few steps forward before suddenly stopping. A few seconds later, they turned and left, and the door was quietly closed again.
"Come back later, doctor."
Inside the ward,
The light traveled from the ground, past the foot of the bed, past the white sheets, past the hands clasped together on the blanket, and finally settled on the white pillow, where two sleeping faces, one large and one small, lay side by side. At this moment, time seemed to stand still, and even the birds that usually sang incessantly outside the window quietly flew away, leaving only the two people in their dreams.
The sun is shining brightly.
