Outside Mingzhou city, the morning mist gradually dissipated.
"Reporting to the general, the gunpowder is ready!" The lieutenant ran over excitedly.
"Wait," Wang Ben stopped him, "Don't rush to use gunpowder. Look at what those Zhao soldiers on the city wall are busy with."
On the city wall, Zhao's soldiers were frantically piling up various tools. Some were carrying buckets of water, some were carrying bundles of wet straw, and others were pouring water onto the city wall.
"Hey, these Zhao people are quite good at learning," Meng Tian said with a smile from the side. "It seems they've heard about the Jingxing City incident and want to use water to prevent fires."
"Fireproof?" Wang Ben scoffed. "They think our gunpowder is the same kind as last time. Fine, since they want to play with water, we'll play along."
He turned to the messenger and said, "Go, bring me that batch of ordinary gunpowder used for the experiment. Let these Zhao people have a taste first."
A young captain asked, puzzled, "General, why not just use the new gunpowder?"
"What do you know!" Meng Tian tapped him on the head. "This is called fishing. You have to put in some small fish and shrimp first before you can catch the big fish!"
Soon, the first batch of ordinary gunpowder was loaded onto the catapult.
"put!"
Several gunpowder pellets flew through the air and exploded on the city wall.
Zhao Jun was prepared and immediately poured water to extinguish the fire. Although some soldiers were injured, the overall losses were not significant.
"Haha!" Zheng Ping's loud laughter echoed from the city wall. "The Qin army's firearms are nothing special! With water, they can't cause any big trouble!"
At this moment, he was extremely smug, thinking that Qin's gunpowder was nothing more than that, and that his former colleagues were all... fools!
Seeing the smug look on the city wall, Wang Ben couldn't help but laugh out loud: "This person... has actually taken the bait."
"Since they think they have a way to deal with gunpowder..." Meng Tian's eyes flashed with a cunning glint as he saw they had taken the bait, "then let them see what real firearms are like! Bring up the new gunpowder!"
This time, the catapults were loaded with new gunpowder containing 'fire mother'.
Zheng Ping was still feeling smug about his "victory" when he suddenly saw several dark figures flying in from the sky.
"Well done!" he shouted. "Brothers, do it the way you just did..."
Before he could finish speaking, a deafening explosion interrupted him. This explosion was far more powerful than the previous one; crimson flames flew everywhere, clinging to the city walls and refusing to be extinguished.
"This...this..." Zheng Ping stared in disbelief, his mind racing. This was definitely not the gunpowder he had just gotten!
"General, look!" A Qin army junior officer below the city wall shouted excitedly, pointing at the walls of Mingzhou. "Those Zhao people's water buckets have all been blown away!"
Sure enough, the explosions just now not only threw the defending troops into chaos, but also overturned most of the prepared water buckets.
Several unlucky Zhao soldiers were hit by buckets of water, clutching their heads and yelling.
"Now you know how tough it is, don't you?" Meng Tian shook his head with a smile. "I told you to surrender, but you insisted on being stubborn."
Wang Ben was not smug, knowing that Zheng Ping was a famous general of Zhao and would not admit defeat so easily.
As expected, the Zhao army on the city wall quickly regrouped and began a tenacious resistance.
"Brothers, give it a good beating!" Zheng Ping shouted hoarsely. "What gunpowder? Can it possibly be more powerful than thunder?"
No sooner had he finished speaking than a group of Zhao soldiers charged up the city wall, carrying heavy iron shields. This time they had learned their lesson and wrapped their shields with several layers of wet cowhide, thinking that this would surely stop the gunpowder.
"Wow! These Zhao people are quite creative." Meng Tian raised his eyebrows. "However..." he deliberately dragged out his words, "our gunpowder doesn't seem to be just for show either."
Wang Ben grinned: "Kid, how about we make a bet? How many rounds can these shields last? The loser treats us tonight!"
"Then I'll bet on two rounds!"
I'll bet one!
"Boom!" Another loud noise rang out. The meticulously crafted iron shields were blown away like pieces of paper, along with the Zhao soldiers behind them.
The wet cowhide did nothing to help; instead, it sizzled and emitted a roasting aroma.
"Haha, I won!" Wang Ben said with a laugh. "You're treating tonight!"
"Come on," Meng Tian pouted. "Your uncle cheating? How is anyone supposed to know what kind of gunpowder you had set off?"
Just as they were talking and laughing, a strange sound suddenly rang out from the city wall. It turned out that Zheng Ping had someone bring over a huge bronze drum and was beating it vigorously.
"What are they trying to do?" a Qin army junior officer asked, scratching his head. "Are they trying to scare us away with the drumming?"
"Something's not right." Wang Ben's face darkened. "They're calling for reinforcements! Men, quickly scout the area behind the city!"
The scouts ran for several miles and saw a cloud of dust rising behind Mingzhou City. A Zhao army of about five thousand cavalrymen was rushing towards them from afar. They hurried back to inform Wang Ben and Meng Tian.
"Hey, you've come at the perfect time!" Meng Tian's eyes lit up. "Uncle Wang, how about we try a different game this time?"
"What's the game like?" Wang Ben asked with interest.
"Look," Meng Tian said, squinting, "we'll bury the gunpowder underground first, and when those cavalry charge..."
"Brilliant!" Wang Ben slapped his thigh. "I knew you were full of clever ideas! But this job needs to be done by someone quick-witted; one wrong move and they'll be trampled into mincemeat by those cavalry."
"Don't worry, I've already decided on someone." Meng Tian turned and called out, "Little Liu! Come here!"
A quick-witted soldier ran over, wondering why the two generals were laughing so strangely, when Meng Tian pulled him aside and whispered a few words to him.
