Chapter 9: The Confiscation of Property, the Reason for the Rebellion!

On the other side.

"What do you mean, a thousand gold pieces?" Erniu stared coldly at the Sun family patriarch and said, word by word, "The sergeant has already said that you must give up all your family property in exchange for your lives."

The head of the Sun family was so angry he almost lost his mind. He cursed his wicked husband in his heart for breaking his promise and even trying to confiscate their property.

"Brave warrior, there must be some misunderstanding!" The Sun family patriarch suppressed his anger and said humbly, "Why don't you take us to see the young general and confirm it with him?"

"No need, the squad leader made it very clear!" Erniu didn't even lift his eyelids, waving his hand to signal the Qin soldiers behind him to enter the mansion and search it.

"Get out of here, you old bastard!"

The Sun family patriarch happened to be blocking the doorway, and a Qin soldier stepped forward and kicked him.

"Bang!"

"Well...."

The old and frail head of the Sun family could not withstand the kick and was immediately knocked to the ground, uttering painful groans.

"Father, Father..." Two middle-aged men rushed out from the side and flanked the Sun family patriarch, trying to help him up.

"They're really in the way, kill them!"

As soon as he finished speaking, two Qin soldiers raised their swords and slashed. With a 'thud,' a head fell to the ground, and blood splattered all over the Sun family patriarch's face.

"ah..."

"My son... my son..."

The piercing cries made Erniu frown and roar, "Whoever cries, I'll kill!"

The cacophony of cries and shouts vanished instantly, leaving only the Sun family patriarch sobbing softly as he struggled with all his might to crawl toward the heads of his two sons, who had rolled to the ground a short distance away.

"search!"

The Qin army immediately rushed into the mansion, and in less than the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, they gathered again at the mansion gate with large and small bags.

"Let's go, next place, lead the way!"

Erniu didn't say much, but after giving a wink, he turned and left. Two Qin soldiers forcibly lifted the Sun family patriarch off the ground and led him and several other patriarchs to the next family.

The Sun family members, on the other hand, were in a terrible situation, as more than a dozen Qin soldiers surrounded them with sinister smiles.

Before long, heart-wrenching cries rang out from behind Erniu and the others. The Sun family patriarch suddenly turned around, his eyes wide with fury.

The entire Sun family... was slaughtered by the Qin army!

Unable to withstand such a blow due to his advanced age, he was overcome with rage and fainted on the spot.

Having learned from the example of the Sun family, everything went extremely smoothly from then on. They dared not complain at any of the households and obediently opened their doors to welcome the Qin soldiers into their homes to confiscate their property.

The sky was bright, and it was past mid-morning.

Erniu and his companions returned laden with their belongings, arriving at the city center with six clan leaders, attracting curious glances from the surrounding Qin soldiers.

"Could this be a case of taking advantage of the chaos to rob and loot?"

"You're asking for it!"

Exclamations of surprise rang out.

The Qin laws were strict. While fighting was one thing, soldiers under Qin's rule were absolutely forbidden from acting recklessly. Randomly plundering wealth was a capital offense.

"Those guys... are all new recruits from that wicked bastard!" Several new recruits exclaimed instinctively when they saw Erniu and the others walking at the front.

"A wicked husband?"

"Oh no, what kind of servant did such a thing? This squad leader is going to be in trouble too!" Someone said with a gloating expression. No matter what era, there will always be people who are afraid of you being rich and look down on you being poor, and who can't stand seeing others doing better than themselves.

Erniu and the others couldn't be bothered with them at all; their eyes were busy searching for the wicked sergeant in the crowd!

"There, let's go!"

The sharp-eyed Chun Ning happened to spot the wicked husband sitting at the base of the wall and immediately let out a joyful exclamation.

Only when they got close did the wicked husband, writhing in agony, notice them. A forced smile appeared on his lips. "How much did you gain?"

"They're so rich!" Erniu casually opened a wooden box, and inside were neatly arranged silver coins, about twenty or thirty in total.

"Good, good, good." In an instant, the wicked husband felt all the pain in his body lessen, and his pupils even turned into the shape of coins.

Having been in the Qin Dynasty for four years, this is the first time I've seen such a huge sum of money.

"Come, follow me to see the commander!" The wicked man winked at Chun Ning, who was usually the most clever and should understand what he meant. Chun Ning felt as heavy as lead and couldn't get up at all.

Chun Ning understood, stepped forward to help the wicked husband to his feet, and quietly asked in a low voice, "Squad leader, we should quickly find a military doctor later."

The wicked man dared not be reckless. Even if he was physically strong, who knew if he could withstand illnesses like tetanus? In this world, his only reliance was his body.

"Keep up!" Erniu shouted, and everyone immediately followed behind, carrying large and small bags.

The group arrived at the county government office located in the center of the city. Meng Ao temporarily settled there and was busy with the post-war affairs with a group of military officers.

"Commander, Squad Leader Evil requests an audience!"

Meng Ao was slightly taken aback by the guard's words. He glanced at Meng Wu beside him and, seeing that he was not angry, slowly said, "Let him in."

He was somewhat curious; what urgent matter could have prompted him to bypass Commander Meng Wu and report to him? Logically, unless it was an extremely urgent matter, one should not presume to report it.

A short while later.

The guards and Chun Ning helped the wicked husband arrive. Only now did the wicked husband shed his disguise, groaning as he walked, his already fair complexion now showing signs of illness.

"Where is the army doctor? Where is the army doctor?!" Meng Ao's expression suddenly changed, and he roared angrily, "Why haven't you bandaged up this wicked husband yet?"

The wicked man's eyes suddenly lit up, then his expression became even more listless, and he said in a very weak voice, "It's alright, Commander. Some of my comrades are even more seriously injured than I am. Save them first..."

"This wicked man has overstepped his bounds; it is truly..."

"There is an urgent matter to report!"

At this point, he subtly pinched Chun Ning's finger, and she immediately spoke, her voice trembling with a hint of tears, "Squad leader, please stop..."

All the generals present were filled with admiration, for such a valiant warrior was truly a blessing to the Qin Dynasty!

Chun Ning took over the conversation and recounted how the clan leaders and the rebel general Wang Meng had gathered together.

After listening, Meng Ao and the other military generals all focused their gazes on the six clan leaders. Their sharp, knife-like eyes made them tremble with fear.

"explain!"

"What dirty business do you have with Wang Meng?" Meng Ao's voice was like a tiger's roar, deafening.

The six clan leaders trembled violently, their last shred of hope completely shattered. They usually regarded the Sun clan leader as their leader, and the Sun clan leader, noticing the gazes of the others, felt a chill run down his spine.

"Whoosh~"

Qin Jian drew his sword, and Meng Wu pointed it at the Sun family patriarch, shouting sternly, "Why don't you speak up now? Do you want your head to roll?"

“Alas…” The Sun family patriarch sighed, no longer daring to conceal the truth, “That day, the King of Zhao’s envoy came to Jinyang, demanding that we raise an army in rebellion.”

"The King of Zhao promised us that he would send troops to help us. If the Qin army comes to quell the rebellion, we can then coordinate an attack from within..."

Meng Ao frowned slightly, his mind racing with thoughts. According to the man before him, the Zhao army was a step too late; he hadn't expected the Qin army to arrive so quickly!

"So... Zhao Jun will be here soon?" The wicked man's eyes suddenly lit up, and his fiery gaze fell on Meng Ao.

After a moment, Meng Ao made a decision and shouted, "Men, convey my orders. Quickly summon the garrison outside the city to enter the city, clear the battlefield swiftly, and guard against a surprise attack by the Zhao army."
