Zongzheng Mansion.
Sitting in the main seat, Ying Lin was already impatiently waiting for news. He wished he could fly to the Imperial Censor's residence to see the situation inside with his own eyes.
Whether it actually proceeded as he had envisioned remains to be seen.
"Reporting, sir! Great news! His Majesty and the Princess have both gone to Li Lin's residence!"
"Oh? How long have they been gone?"
"My lord, it should have been about half an hour!"
"Half an hour?"
Ying Lin frowned, pondering, "Have they sent any news yet?"
"No, I also found it strange. His Majesty and the princess have been inside for almost half an hour without any movement, so I came back to report to you!"
"Okay, you can go now. Come back to me immediately if there's any new information!"
"promise!"
The servant who delivered the order left in a hurry, and the others present began to discuss it amongst themselves.
"Lord Zongzheng, could something unexpected have happened? Logically speaking, catching someone in the act shouldn't take this long, right? Why haven't we heard anything yet?"
"Could something have happened? Or perhaps Li Lin secretly took Li Yao elsewhere? Not at his residence?"
"It's possible for adults to do this too. Some people, like myself, keep their beloved concubines elsewhere."
......
None of the opinions expressed by these people satisfied Ying Lin, who was sitting high up.
"No, the kind of accident you're talking about couldn't possibly happen to Li Lin, because his residence is located at the very end of the eastern part of the city. If they were to exit through the back gate, they would only be at the inner city wall, and there would be no way for them to go!"
"Then... then what's going on here?"
"Has something really gone wrong? Or is Li Yao just unreliable?"
"That's possible!"
His old eyes suddenly seemed to wrinkle, and he considered the worst-case scenario.
"Tai Shiteng, what do you think?"
“Lord Zongzheng, as I just said, Li Lin is a clever man. Although your method seems ingenious, it has many flaws and will be easily seen through by him.”
"You mean, he saw through your plan?"
"Um!"
Tai Shiteng nodded and continued, "I believe the best approach now is not to find out about this tragic outcome, but to devise a way to subject Li Lin to a second wave of attacks in a short period of time, leaving him no time to respond!"
Ying Lin found it hard to believe, but he always listened to Tai Shiteng's advice.
Nothing more.
This is simply because Taishi Teng was clever enough.
He was even smarter than that cunning old fox, Wang Jian.
Wang Jian's wisdom lay in his ability to protect himself, a wisdom that allowed him to retreat when necessary.
And what about Taishi Teng?
His intelligence lies in actively getting involved; it's a proactive and aggressive kind of intelligence.
“You’re right. It’s better to be safe than sorry. This time, I was careless and too complacent. I underestimated him. If he really saw through it, it means this kid is more troublesome than we thought!”
"How about this, we'll spread rumors first!"
"Spreading rumors?"
"Yes! Isn't Wang Jian in poor health lately? His days are numbered, so why don't we use him as leverage!"
What kind of article?
Ying Lin was completely bewildered by what he said and really didn't understand what Tai Shiteng meant.
Tai Shiteng smiled and said, "There are too many people here, and if I speak too clearly, what if someone spreads the word? Wouldn't that allow Li Lin to escape again?"
"That makes sense!" Ying Lin nodded, then looked at everyone and said, "Everyone, let's leave it at that for today. You can all go back now!"
"promise!"
Everyone was already very interested in what Taishi Teng was saying, which had been keeping them in suspense, and wanted to understand what he was talking about, but this whole thing just made them uncomfortable.
Humans are naturally curious, and they are no exception; they are extremely curious.
But curiosity is useless.
The owner has already chased you away, why aren't you leaving?
Once the Imperial Clan Head gave the order, they had no choice but to leave the Imperial Clan Headquarters dejectedly.
After everyone left.
Ying Lin led Taishi Ci into the study, and Taishi Teng then spoke frankly, smiling as he asked, "Lord Zongzheng, what kind of person do you think His Majesty is?"
"Your Majesty? That's hard to say!"
"Please try saying it."
"Exceptionally intelligent, possessing great talent and strategic vision, and decisive in his decisions?"
"no."
"That means knowing how to recognize and appoint capable people, and having a discerning eye for talent?"
No, not exactly.
What is that?
Ying Lin was bewildered. He had clearly been describing His Majesty's characteristics, so why were they different when it came to Tai Shiteng?
"Lord Zongzheng, you can't judge things by appearances alone. His Majesty does have the characteristics you mentioned, but he is essentially an ordinary person. As a person, he must have his own preferences. Without preferences, just having strengths and weaknesses, he is not a living, breathing person!"
"Oh? That's a rather novel way of putting it. In your opinion, what are His Majesty's preferences?"
"Haha, you've come to the right person. I've observed His Majesty for many years and have discovered that he has a very peculiar preference: he likes to appoint talented people to important positions."
"Isn't this what I just said about knowing people and assigning them to suitable positions?"
"No, no. Although he likes to appoint talented people, he is extremely disgusted with those who have been entrusted with great hopes but have deceived him! That's one reason. The other is those who threaten his rule."
