Gao Yanei checked his expression and said, "My father said that such a rare treasure can only be owned by the royal family. If it is placed in an ordinary family, it will only bring disaster."
"So, your father came up with this idea, to get me a small official position and steal my Sky Star, right?" Zhang Shixun sneered, picked up a piece of beef, and put it under his nose to smell it.
"You can't speak against your conscience. My father didn't let you become an official to steal the Sky Star from you. He did it out of consideration for you because of our friendship."
"Bullshit!" Zhang Shixun grabbed the knife on the chopping board.
Gao Yanei ran out of the kitchen and stammered, "Brother, why did you pull out a knife just because you disagreed with me?"
Zhang Shixun ignored him and picked up the beef to start cutting.
Gao Yanei then realized that he was wrong. He wiped the sweat from his face and said embarrassedly, "You scared me to death."
"You are guilty of a crime. You clearly want to take my treasure, but you are doing it under the pretext of considering me." Zhang Shixun said with a stern face.
"Brother, if you say so, I feel so embarrassed." Gao Yanei said with a wry smile.
Zhang Shixun cut the beef into thin slices, picked up a piece to taste, and said, "It tastes okay, but there are too many messy ingredients, which cover up the meat flavor."
"I have a lot of spices at home." Gao Yanei was just making small talk.
"You have more salt at home, why don't you put two pounds in?" Zhang Shixun said unhappily.
"Brother, don't interrupt... I want to ask you, do you want to know what kind of official position my father will get you?" Gao Yanei said.
"Okay, tell me, I want to listen." Zhang Shixun didn't even look at him and started cutting the mutton again.
"I'm serving in the Tianwu Army as a deputy commander of the First Army on the right wing. My father is planning to give you the position of deputy commander of the First Army. What do you think?"
"The deputy commander-in-chief is actually just a deputy?" Zhang Shixun sneered.
"Oh my! My brother, the deputy commander-in-chief is quite a big deal, the deputy army chief, half a level higher than me, the chief officer. I'm condescending to be your subordinate. The commander-in-chief of the First Army is vacant. If you agree to take this position, you will be the most senior commander in the First Army, and you have the final say."
Zhang Shixun remained noncommittal and asked, "Tell me the truth, how many people are there in this so-called First Army?"
Gao Yanei thought for a moment and said vaguely, "Probably, maybe one or two thousand people, I can't say for sure."
"What do you mean by 'probably'? Please be more specific." Zhang Shixun said dissatisfiedly.
"There are a total of five commanders in the First Army. If the quota is full, each commander should have 500 people. However, there are many vacancies in the Imperial Guards, so each commander can only have about 200 to 300 people at most." Gao Yanei explained patiently.
"It seems that you are just holding a position and you can't even tell me how many people are under you." Zhang Shixun took a bamboo dustpan and covered the plate with it because there were too many flies.
"Who said I don't care?" Gao Yanei explained, "I'm the one who assigns the soldiers to carry bags outside."
"Send soldiers out to carry the bags, did I hear correctly?" Zhang Shixun stopped what he was doing and asked in surprise.
"Not only do I carry bags, I also help people build houses and transport goods." Gao Yanei did not hide anything.
After being stunned for a long time, Zhang Shixun shook his head and smiled.
"If I need work here, can I hire them?" Zhang Shixun asked.
"Of course, as long as you are willing to pay."
Zhang Shixun laughed loudly. "Nimma! This guy is not an officer at all, he's clearly a contractor."
"Why are you laughing, brother?"
Zhang Shixun did not answer but asked, "Shouldn't soldiers be training in the barracks? If they go out every day to work for your family and earn money, what will happen if there is a war in the future?"
"Brother, you're worrying too much. The Tianwu Army is one of the upper four armies, the emperor's personal army. They don't go out on the battlefield, so it's not their turn to fight."
He is simply the son of an official. There is no way to discuss serious matters with this guy. Apart from making money and indulging in sensual pleasures, he knows nothing about military and national affairs.
Zhang Shixun didn't want to engage in idle chatter, so he decided to tell him something serious. "Go back and tell General Gao that I agree to be the deputy commander."
When Gao Yanei saw that he agreed, he immediately showed a look of joy.
"Brother, do you really agree?"
"Well, when will I be allowed to take up my post?"
Gao Yanei said, "Don't worry. You can't just go and become the deputy commander. Even if my father is in charge of the imperial guards, he won't let you go just by asking."
Zhang Shixun nodded: "That's right, after all, the Song Dynasty Imperial Guards are not run by your family."
When Gao Yanei heard this, he hurriedly covered Zhang Shixun's mouth.
Zhang Shixun pushed his hand aside and said, "Yanei, what are you doing?"
"You can eat whatever you want, but you can't say whatever you want. What do you mean it's my business?" Gao Yanei turned his head to look at the door, his mouth twitching as he said, "If the inspector hears this, it will be a disaster."
"What is Chazi?"
"A spy from the Imperial City Department."
Zhang Shixun understood that he was a spy from the imperial court.
Seeing Gao Yanei so frightened, Zhang Shixun said, "Alright! I won't tell you anymore. Look how scared you are."
"Don't say such things anymore. The imperial guards of the Song Dynasty belong to the government."
"That's right, the Imperial Guards are definitely owned by the government." Zhang Shixun raised his hands and said, "Alright! Go on, how can I become the Deputy Commander-in-Chief?"
"There are two ways." Gao Yanei raised two fingers.
"Tell me."
"One is shade supplementation."
"What is Yinbu?"
"Yinbu is also called Tui En Yin... To put it simply, high-ranking officials in the imperial court can allow their sons and nephews to go to school and become officials. The higher the official position, the wider the scope of the Yinbu..."
