Chapter 13 Temple of Delphi
Was she abducted by evil people?
On the swan chariot, Hermes took in the mountains, rivers, and seas. It was the first time she had ever looked down at the world from such a height, and she felt as if she were the master of all things—if the old man didn’t mind.
Although the stingy Apollo didn't tell her much more, only mentioning that he would help her return to Olympus, that was enough.
Hermes rose from her seat, raised her arms, squinted, and felt the wind and clouds brushing against her, laughing happily. The two green snakes that had been on the scepter now affectionately coiled around her arms and neck, flicking their tongues as they enjoyed the feeling of flying through the sky with her.
【Don't you have winged sandals? Next time, why don't you take us flying around all these places? My dear Hermes!】
[Yes, yes! We spend our whole lives crawling on the ground, how wonderful it would be to fly in the sky!]
“No problem, friends!” Hermes poked the little snakes’ heads and agreed with a smile. “Maybe I can even take you flying to the palace on Olympus!”
Wow! That's so cool!
[Yay! Long live Hermes!]
Apollo glanced at the girl standing beside him with her arms outstretched, instinctively wanting to scold her for her sudden rudeness. But seeing her so innocent and adorable, he relaxed his brows and a smile unconsciously curved his lips.
Even though that brat has grown up a bit, he's still just an ignorant child.
Of course, if we remove the title of god of fraud and theft.
The swan chariots soon arrived at Delphi.
Looking out from the car, the place has mountains, forests, villages and towns inhabited by humans. The magnificent and sacred scenery is on full display, truly a place chosen by the God of Light.
The chariot stopped at the entrance to the Temple of Apollo, built on the majestic Mount Parnassus, a place where, besides Apollo, Artemis and the nine Muses often resided. Now, unlike usual, there were not the usual crowds of humans waiting to seek divine pronouncements; presumably, their god was absent.
Apollo rose from the carriage, followed by Hermes with his blue serpents and scepter.
Below the entrance is a long, winding path through which every pilgrim must pass to enter the oracle, as a sign of their reverence and devotion. Further ahead, the arched pillars at the entrance are adorned with sacred laurel wreaths, and a plaque inscribed in gold with the words "Know thyself."
However, there seems to be an even higher place on this mountain. I wonder if Apollo had any ideas about building something else at the top of the mountain?
As Hermes was thinking this, still looking at and touching all the novel sights around her, she heard Apollo's voice as he walked further in.
“Follow me.” He didn’t turn around.
In fact, the God of Light wanted to warn Hermes not to try to steal the things here, but the words stuck in his throat and he swallowed them back down in his burning stomach.
"Never mind," Apollo thought.
Hermes ran toward that tall figure. In addition to the altar and stone pillars, there was also a Sphinx with a human face and a body in the temple area. Everything looked so majestic and wonderful.
I heard there's a triangular cauldron and Pythia priests in the temple; I really want to see them soon!
They stepped onto the marble steps and entered the magnificent temple.
Since it was daytime, no lamps were lit on the stone walls, but there were still specks of light scattered throughout the hall.
As the elderly woman dressed as a young girl approached, Hermes saw behind her not only a majestic statue of the God of Light, but also a bronze triangular tripod.
Inside the cauldron, a deep blue flame roared, sparks crackling, and wisps of smoke carrying a strange, faint fragrance wafted out, creating an imposing sight.
"Welcome back, Your Highness Apollo." The priestess Pythia bowed gently to the god who had stopped in his tracks. She was originally a nymph born in Delphi who had served the giant serpent Python. After her former master was shot and killed, she sought refuge under Apollo's protection.
Hermes gripped her scepter tightly, preparing to politely address Grandma Pythia and introduce herself, but Apollo spoke first.
"Enter that triangular cauldron." The God of Light glanced at her sideways. "Be burned by the flames, Hermes."
Hermes: "?"
As the green snakes coiled around his neck and arms warily opened their blood-red mouths, the god of deception and theft was dumbfounded.
Was she abducted by evil people?
That bastard wants to use fire on her?!
