Silent Heartbeat

Silent Heartbeat

The moonlight was a silent and eerie spectator, and also an accomplice in this secret. Wen Zhili heard the sound of a dead leaf breaking from a branch.

And then—she pulled away from her sister's kiss.

"What about Jiang Zhu?"

"Huh? What?"

They had just separated for a while and Wen Yan was still thinking about what had just happened when Wen Zhili asked her a question without any context.

Wen Zhili lowered her eyes, her eyelashes hiding her emotions, and her lips, which had just been kissed, were still unnaturally red.

"Kiss me."

"What about her, do you still like her?"

Wen Yan reacted and couldn't help but burst into joy.

Wen Zhili glanced at her with red ears.

"What are you laughing at?"

"You're so cute, sis."

Wen Yan leaned in and kissed the corner of her lips again. This time, Wen Zhili did not hide, but the tips of her ears turned redder.

"She doesn't like girls at all. I don't know how many boys she's had crushes on in the three years of high school. It's even more impossible for me to like her."

Wen Yan winked at her, with a hint of cunning in his eyes, as if saying, "You know who I like."

Wen Zhili pursed her lips and said nothing.

"So...you said before that you wanted to get married and have children. Is that true?"

Wen Yan looked a little hesitant when he brought up this topic.

Wen Zhili was stunned for a few seconds before shaking his head gently.

"It's fake, fake."

She said softly.

Seeing Wen Yan looking at her without saying anything, Wen Zhili's face showed a rare panic, and continued: "It was my fault for what happened before. Yanyan, I just... just..."

But what? Wen Zhili couldn’t say any more.

Wen Yan gave her a relieved smile, put his arms around her neck and hugged her gently.

"I understand, sister. I don't blame you, as long as you love me."

Wen Zhili didn't know whether Wen Yan really understood her and whether he really didn't blame her.

Because even she herself could not understand and forgive her own series of contradictory behaviors.

It was she who said harsh words and left, and it is also she who comes back to ask about his well-being now.

It was she who said she wanted to get married and have children, and to repay her parents. Now, it is also she who is kissing her parents' biological daughter.

Wen Zhili closed her eyes, unwilling to count her sins anymore, unwilling to think about the future that made her completely confused.

Finally, she wrapped her arms tightly around the waist of the girl in her arms.

At least this embrace is real.

At least the sister in my arms is real.

"I love you, Yanyan."

Wen Yan's heart suddenly trembled.

During this time of separation, she wanted to ask Wen Zhili countless times

Do you love me?

Have you ever loved me?

If I hadn't kissed you then, would you love me now?

So what about the future? Will you still be able to love me in the future?

Wen Zhili is always a person who does more than she says, and her love is always hidden in her eyes that seem to want to say something but cannot.

But today, after kissing her, I hugged her and said "I love you".

This light word "love" fell heavily into Wen Yan's ears.

It’s worth it - Wen Yan thought, even though it made her seem a little useless.

Be it suspicion and sadness, longing and pain, once my sister's love is expressed, all the tears shed are worth it.

After a long time of warmth, Wen Zhili patted Wen Yan's lower back and whispered, "Yanyan, go check the computer in the study."

"Me? Looking at the computer? Why would I look at the computer?"

Wen Yan raised his head from her arms in confusion.

Wen Zhili just smiled gently and touched the top of her head.

"You'll know after you see it. Sister will go to work for a while."

After saying that, she went to get her laptop, and actually sat at the dining table, put on her glasses and started typing away.

Wen Yan: “…”

Seeing that her sister, who was hugging her just a second ago, was now immersed in work, Wen Yan had to suppress the last bit of her disgusting thoughts and obediently went into the study to turn on the desktop computer.

As soon as the computer was turned on, Wen Yan noticed that a software that he had never seen before appeared on the desktop.

The software is called Silent Heartbeat.

The icon is a pixelated green apple on a pure black background.

Wen Yan immediately clicked in with great interest.

After entering the main page, the pixelated green apple was still on the screen. Wen Yan clicked on "Game Start" below.

The screen flashed, and then a pixelated little girl appeared in a pixelated room.

Wen Yan couldn't help but smile, because of the layout of the living room at home.

The pixel man suddenly started crying and a dialog box popped up at the bottom of the screen.

"What should I do? I just accidentally ate the green apple my parents bought for my sister... I have no choice but to leave this house!"

Wen Yan secretly complained in her heart, this was really "careless"...

She clicked "Continue Game" at the bottom of the dialog box.

Then the screen jumps to the level selection interface. There are two levels in total. Currently, except for the first level which is green and can be clicked, the second level is still gray.

Wen Yan clicked to enter the first level, and the background of the pixel man changed to the bedroom. She realized that this was her sister's room.

A text pops up above the screen: Level 1, pack your luggage before leaving home.

Wen Yan had entered Wen Zhili's room after she left, so she knew that she had taken the dreamcatcher away.

So without much thought, she moved her mouse to the dream catcher beside the bed.

A small box with text popped up next to it: The dream catcher my sister gave me can catch all nightmares.

Wen Yan pressed the mouse button, and a green tick appeared on the dreamcatcher. At the same time, the number indicated in the upper right corner of the screen jumped to 1.

Following her intuition, Wen Yan clicked on the small white square on the bedside table. Sure enough, the number jumped to 2.

Anything else? What is it…

Then Wen Yan clicked on the clothes hanging in the closet, and a big red cross popped up with a line of small words next to it: You can buy clothes anywhere, so I won’t bring them.

Wen Yan stared at the screen for a long time, ticking a few boxes before finally noticing a painting on the desk. She moved her mouse over it.

"My sister drew a family portrait when she was little using small white card and crayons."

Wen Yan then remembered that he seemed to have drawn this when he was a child.

Click and a green checkmark will appear.

But it’s not over yet, another string of text pops up on the screen: Where is the best place to put it?

There are two option buttons below. The left one is "In the nightstand at my new place" and the right one is "Wallet compartment".

Wen Yan clicked on the "wallet compartment", and a smiling face appeared on the pixel man's face. The screen displayed: Congratulations, the game is cleared!

Wen Yan couldn't help but wonder whether Wen Zhili really put the family portrait he drew into the wallet compartment.

This brainless little game seems quite interesting, Wen Yan thought to himself, and couldn't wait to click "Enter the next level".

Level 2: Attend your sister’s coming-of-age ceremony

The pixel man packed his luggage and left home, and three years passed in the blink of an eye.

One day, Pixel Man received a call from her parents asking her to go to her younger sister's coming-of-age ceremony, and she agreed.

Pop up question: What coming-of-age gift should I give my sister?

On the left is "a letter" and on the right is "300,000 savings".

Wen Yan knew that the right side was correct, but she still decided to click on the left side. The interface showed "Wrong selection, please select again" and nothing else.

Wen Yan pursed her lips, chose the right side and entered the next plot.

The pixel man came to attend his sister's coming-of-age ceremony as promised, but when they were about to part again, a strange plot appeared in Wen Yan.

The pixel man asked his sister: "It's been so long since we last met, did you miss me?"

My sister said yes.

Jumping question: What to do next?

Left: Leave the school directly, right: Hug her.

Wen Yan felt her heart beating faster - she remembered that Wen Zhili had said something when they passed through the adult gate, but she didn't hear it clearly.

She moved the mouse and clicked on the right side, selecting the correct one. The pixel man hugged his sister and then left the campus.

Another question popped up: Do you miss her?

Left: yes, right: no.

Wen Yan clicked on the left and selected the correct one.

The last question pops up: Will your sister forgive you for leaving her back then?

Left: Forgive, Right: Forgive.

When he saw the options clearly, Wen Yan couldn't help laughing, but his smile was mixed with some inexplicable sadness.

She clicked the forgive button on the left, making the correct choice. The pixel man finally decided to go home to see his sister and completed the second level of the game.

Wen Yan turned off the computer and walked out of the study. Wen Zhili was still typing code at the dining table. When he heard the sound, he raised his head and smiled at her, but this time there was some subtle nervousness hidden in his smile.

Wen Yan walked straight to her without saying a word, sat across her sister's lap and wanted to kiss her again.

Wen Zhili did not refuse. When her sister just sat on her, she took off her glasses and put them on the table, letting Wen Yan hold her face with both hands and kiss her.

"Sister, sister...I really miss you..."

While kissing, the longing was about to overflow from the corner of his mouth.

She was eager and passionate. Wen Zhili was kissed so hard that he couldn't say a word in response. He had to use the little bit of rationality he had left to control his hand and gently rub his sister's lower back to comfort her.

After kissing for a while, Wen Zhili suddenly raised his hand and gently pushed his sister, so that when Wen Yan stopped kissing her, there was a strong look of dissatisfaction in his eyes when he looked at her.

"You said you missed me, how much did you miss me?"

Seeing Wen Zhili's burning eyes, Wen Yan's impulsive eagerness slowly dissipated, and her face gradually turned red. She quickly kissed her sister's nose, then lowered her head and whispered:

"I miss you when there are many people around, and I also miss you when I am alone."

After saying this, Wen Yan did not intend to get off Wen Zhili, but buried her head in her sister's neck in this position.

Wen Zhili didn't expect her sister to answer so seriously. She was stunned for two seconds, then chuckled and kissed the red tip of her ear in her arms.

The little person in my arms seemed very shy, rubbing against my neck again, and made a muffled sound: "Is this the game you played at home these days?"

"Yeah, I want to coax you."

"Oh, no wonder this game is so brainless."

A low laugh came from above, and Wen Yan felt the slight vibration in her sister's chest.

When was the last time you were this close?

"Is it done yet?"

"It's done!"

Wen Yan raised his head from her arms and pretended to be unhappy.

"Someone was so overbearing that he didn't even give me the option of not forgiving."

"Hmm? Yanyan doesn't want to forgive me?"

Wen Zhili looked at her straight and blinked. Wen Yan secretly said, "That's great! Wen Zhili can pretend to be aggrieved now."

Wen Yan couldn't help but lean over and kiss her a few more times, then asked her, "Did you really put the family portrait I drew when I was a child in your wallet?"

"real."

Wen Zhili smiled gently.

"Want to see it? I'll show it to you now."

"No, no, I believe it."

Wen Yan stretched out her hand and drew circles on her sister's shoulder with her index finger, whispering: "Don't leave me again... I won't drive you away for an apple."

Wen Zhili was silent for a while, then said "hmm" softly.

Wen Yan's eyes suddenly lit up, and she said seriously, "Sister, let's go on a date tomorrow? I'll book a restaurant."

Wen Zhili looked hesitant after hearing this.

Wen Yan felt aggrieved when she found out.

"Why, my sister kissed me and I don't want to take responsibility?"

Wen Zhili thought, wasn't it you who kissed me? But he just smiled helplessly and said, "No, Yanyan, I have to go back to the company tomorrow." The work progress has fallen too far behind.

"Oh yeah...you still have to go to work."

Wen Yan felt visibly disappointed.

Wen Zhili couldn't help but think again, if his sister was a puppy, he would definitely see her drooping ears now.

She rubbed her sister's head.

"Well...but maybe, we can go for a walk outside."

"What are you shopping for? Don't you get off work at around 9pm?"

"Actually, our normal working time is six o'clock, but most of my colleagues will work overtime until then. If I escape early tomorrow, we can go out for a walk."

Wen Yan was stunned.

"Oh my god... Is this a big factory..."
