Chapter 94: The Fate of Kalam
The woodcutters lined up with their rice bowls, and Del served them soup with a wooden spoon, with a noisy banter.
On a simple wooden rack next to the steaming rice pot, there were two large wooden basins filled with rye bran bread without sawdust. This meal was enough to fill you up.
When the last person left with the iron basin, Del filled another large bowl and handed it to the person next to him: "Sir, you should be the first to enjoy your soup. You don't have to wait until everyone else has eaten."
Clown took the bowl and casually placed it on the wooden stand beside him, saying softly, "Not counting the person who went to the mine, we are still short of two people. Find out who it is."
Del was startled and looked around quickly. He picked up a wooden spoon and knocked the big iron pot twice.
A dull sound of "Dang, Dang" was heard, and he shouted loudly: "Everyone, we are missing two people. Each group should recognize each other's subordinates and see who is missing from your group."
"I'm coming, I'm coming," a hoarse voice came from the woods, and a short, fat man wearing a worn-out cap and holding a homemade cigarette as thick as his thumb ran out, grinning and saying, "I just felt sick in my stomach."
"Baru, you must be emptying your stomach so that you can eat more," someone said.
"Don't tell me, Baru is the one who could do this."
"Shut up, you guys, what you say is really disgusting." Del frowned. He shouted at the people who were making noises with an awkward expression, and shouted, "Hurry up and identify the people. The team with fewer people should report the situation."
"It's Kalam," the man with a brown beard stood up and shouted, "He notified us and then ran away to relieve himself. We haven't seen him come back since."
Del put his hands together into a trumpet shape and shouted with all his might: "Karam!"
There were echoes coming from the forest, and everyone's voices stopped abruptly. Even the swallowing movements were made as light as possible, and the scene was silent.
Bending down and picking up the crossbow at his feet, Del let out a long breath: "Sir, I will take people to find him. Caulk, take me to where you last saw him."
After saying that, he turned around and wanted to leave.
Clown held down the man's arm holding the crossbow and said in a low voice, "Wait a moment, I'll take some people there and wait for Geralt and the others to come."
"But I'm afraid Kalam can't wait, so why don't we all go together."
"The groups were not far from each other. Karam was in danger but there was no sound for help. It must have happened in an instant. He had no time to react. This means the attackers were very fast or were confused by something."
Clown followed the demon hunter's example and tied up the scabbard on his back. He continued, "If we all go together, we will have to spread out and search. It will be even more difficult for me to take care of you in the mountains. You organize everyone to be alert first."
Del tightened the crossbow in his hand and shouted, "Guys, grab your weapons and be alert."
The men put down their food bowls one after another, some began to string their crossbows, some picked up axes thrown on the ground, and gathered together.
The air was somewhat stagnant, and heavy breathing could be heard from many people at the scene.
Seven or eight minutes later, Geralt led the mining team coming from a distance.
When Clown saw this, he shouted, "Kalk, lead the way, and bring two more men with crossbows. The rest of you, follow Geralt's command and be on guard."
Del ordered: "Baru, Hogg, you two follow."
The bearded man clenched the axe handle so tightly that his fingers turned white.
He walked in front with his back bent, the other two followed behind him, and Clown was at the back, and the four of them walked towards the forest.
. . . .
"Sir Knight, Ka, Karam went over there to relieve himself," Kaulk shouted, pointing at the crooked tree not far ahead.
Crown took a few steps forward and found that the man's fingers were trembling slightly. The other two men pursed their lips and held the crossbow tightly.
We still cannot expect much combat proficiency from these ordinary people. When they were on guard duty and hiding behind the wall to shoot, they performed quite well, but they lost their courage when fighting at close range.
At this moment, Clown once again felt the malicious feeling of being spied on.
He patted Caulker on the shoulder and said, "Take a deep breath. Everyone, relax a little. If you are too nervous, you won't be able to fight to your full potential. You guys stay alert at the back. I'll go take a look."
His hand speed was so fast that it became an afterimage. He silently chanted a spell in his mind and quickly gave himself two buffs: the Heart Cleansing Spell and the Golden Light Body Protection.
A lion has to use all its strength even when fighting a rabbit, let alone facing an enemy whose strength you don’t know.
Apart from taking drugs, he has made most of the preparations.
Are the 'enemies' fishing? When they first arrived, there were too many ordinary people and they were still cautious. It seems that they are not powerful creatures.
Now, they have caught a great white shark. A cold light flashed in Crown's eyes. He drew the sharp sword behind him, chose a position some distance away from the big tree, and strode over.
The expected attack did not happen. He saw a girl with a pretty face and cool clothes. Her skin was as white as jade and her green hair was a little messy and scattered behind her ears.
There is no mistake in the poem, post, content, and read the book on 6, 9, and bar!
Her eyes were also green, like a pool of autumn water, making people feel pity for her.
"Uncle, I'm hungry," the girl's voice was as gentle as the spring breeze, with a hint of charm. She stuck out her tongue and licked her red lips.
His eyes quickly turned 360 degrees to scan the scene. He saw a person whose body below the waist was missing, with a bloody branch growing out of his neck.
The cold light in his eyes disappeared, and he stretched his arm downward to tilt the sword, grinning as he walked forward: "I'll give you something delicious."
"Woo-hoo", two shrill laughs like a night owl came from high behind him, sounding eerie and terrifying.
"Sir, behind you."
The moment Clown heard the sharp laughter, or to be exact, before the weird laughter, when he heard the sound of something falling, he released bullet time and his body shot towards the enemy in front of him like a crossbow arrow.
At the same time, the girl's eyes turned scarlet, her skin turned gray and hard, and her red lips turned black.
A pair of fleshy wings like a bat grew out from behind her, and there were bloody claws on the bones extending from the wings.
Girl, no, the monster was flying low, its head deformed and elongated, leaving only a flat mouth as big as a millstone, as if it wanted to swallow the enemy in one gulp.
The sword in Crown's hand reflected a fiery red halo, making his weapon look as if it had just been taken out of the furnace.
When the two were about to collide and there was still a distance of four or five meters between them, the monster's body rushed straight up in an unreasonable manner.
Perhaps, it also knew that the opponent was difficult to deal with and wanted to avoid the incoming attack. Perhaps, all of this was calculated and set up by the monsters, and it was just a bait for fishing.
With the bullet time superimposed on him, Crown's mind was working at a very fast speed. The moment he sensed the monster taking off, he also soared into the sky. The firelight reflected his determined face and sharp and murderous eyes.
