Chapter 40 Installing a Fan
Jiang Ling closed the door. She had made a good income today, but she didn't plan to exchange it for money right away. She was thinking of saving it for other purposes.
Jiang Ling opened the roller shutter door and immediately took out her mobile phone to contact the installer of the fan and air conditioner.
Air conditioning cannot be installed on the first floor, so two fans have to be installed instead.
The second floor is where she sleeps, so naturally an air conditioner needs to be installed. Otherwise, this summer will be unbearable.
It's still early summer here, the sun isn't too scorching yet, it's the perfect time to install fans and air conditioners.
Jiang Ling chose the express option, and a little over an hour later, a small truck stopped in front of the store.
They provided the air conditioner and fan, saving Jiang Ling time on shopping.
"Boss, where should the fan be installed?"
“Hmm…” Jiang Ling looked at the ceiling on the first floor, “One is installed above the table and chairs near the door, and the other is installed above the table and chairs behind the counter.”
"Okay! I need to drill a hole first, it might be a bit noisy."
"Okay, you do it."
The installers were an older man in his forties or fifties with a weathered face, and a younger man who looked to be only in his twenties with a sharp glint in his eyes. They seemed like a master and apprentice.
"Xiao Zhang, hold the ladder for me. Today, let's learn how to install this old-fashioned ceiling fan, especially how to drill holes to secure it."
"Yes, Master."
"The most crucial aspect of installing a ceiling fan is its stability. A well-installed ceiling fan can last for decades, while a poorly installed one can fall down in a few years or even a few months. That's a matter of life and death, and there's no room for carelessness!"
"Master, I'm watching. Please stop nagging!"
"Stop nagging! I'm teaching you a lesson!"
Xiao Zhang pouted.
Jiang Ling sat on the counter, watching curiously.
After finishing drilling the hole, Master Zhang came down the ladder. Only then did he take out the ceiling fan, which was covered in dust, from the cardboard box.
Seeing Jiang Ling staring intently, Xiao Zhang quickly explained, "Boss, don't misunderstand. This ceiling fan has just been sitting in the warehouse and has accumulated some dust. It's absolutely new and unused! Look, even the screws are new!"
Jiang Ling asked curiously, "Are there fewer people installing ceiling fans lately?"
Master Zhang replied, "These days, shops all have air conditioning, and it's rare to see shops with fans. I only came across one like this once in a while, so I brought him over to share my experience."
Jiang Ling nodded. If it weren't for special circumstances, she would also like to install air conditioning.
"Don't just stand there, hand me the wrench! Look carefully, install the base first, make sure the screws are tightened properly..."
Master Zhang taught Xiao Zhang some precautions while installing the fan.
Jiang Ling couldn't help, so she took advantage of the break to stroll outside.
It wasn't even midnight yet, so she first went to a milk tea shop on the street and bought an iced milk tea, then turned into the nearby farmers' market to buy some meat to stew.
As it was approaching lunchtime, many stalls in the market had closed up shop and people were heading home.
Jiang Ling bought a piece of lean meat, a piece of pork belly, and a slaughtered chicken.
She likes to eat fish, but she has already eaten, and the fish won't be fresh by tomorrow, so she has to give it up.
Considering that it would be late at night when she woke up, ordering takeout would be inconvenient.
Since time flows differently on both sides, I'll most likely have to cook more often in the future.
Jiang Ling tidied up the items and put them in the refrigerator.
When I came out, the two fans on the first floor had already been installed.
Xiao Zhang is sweeping up the dust on the floor.
Jiang Ling took two bottles of water from the refrigerator and handed them to them.
"You two have worked hard. Please have some water and rest for a bit."
"It's not hard work to get paid and do things, just don't complain about how slow we are, boss."
"It's alright, Master will proceed at his own pace. A little extra time won't make a difference."
After cleaning up, Xiao Zhang and his assistant went upstairs to install the air conditioner.
The air conditioner was installed quickly; the two of them worked together and finished in no time.
After Jiang Ling inspected the goods and said there were no problems, she paid the remaining balance.
Before leaving, Xiao Zhang saw the fruits and vegetables that the villagers had given him, piled up at the kitchen door.
"Wow, these fruits are so fresh! It's only early summer, why are they on the market so early?"
Jiang Ling mumbled, "These were sent by relatives from the south yesterday. The weather there is warmer, so the fruits ripen earlier. Perfect timing, I'll take some back for the two masters; I can't eat this much by myself."
After Jiang Ling finished speaking, she grabbed a large pile of fruits and vegetables and put them into a bag. She then handed it to them.
Master Zhang hurriedly declined, saying, "I can't accept this. This kid just mentioned it casually; he wasn't trying to take advantage of the boss."
"These fruits aren't worth much, and it would be a waste if I couldn't finish them all. Please help me eat some while they're still fresh."
"Thank you very much, boss."
Seeing that Jiang Ling didn't seem to be lying, Master Zhang reluctantly accepted the gift.
Xiao Zhang, clutching the heavy bag, grinned and said, "Thank you, boss! These fruits look delicious!"
They live nearby, so it's perfect for taking it home to cook.
After seeing the two masters and disciples off, Jiang Ling went upstairs to wash up, turned on the air conditioner, and went to sleep soundly.

Ping'an County was bustling in the early morning. It had rained all day yesterday, which had completely dispelled the summer heat of the past few days.
A gentle breeze blows, carrying a cool, damp feeling that makes one feel very comfortable.
Mrs. He had just finished discussing the follow-up supply with the owner of Fengxianglou and was strolling happily down the street.
Across the street, at Xiangbaoge, the shopkeeper Wan Furong was already waiting behind the counter.
He spent the whole morning looking through the account books. He didn't know why, but recently, Xiangbaoge's business had become much slower.
He suspected that the waiter was negligent and had neglected the customer.
He saw Madam He walk into Fengxiang Restaurant early in the morning; she was a big client.
I usually stop by his shop after leaving Fengxianglou.
Counting the days, Mrs. He hadn't visited for over a month. This time, she must have bought quite a lot of things.
Recently, business at Xiangbaoge has been dismal, and he just scolded his employees.
He had to personally attend to such a big customer as Madam He.
He watched as Madam He came out of Fengxiang Tower and walked towards him.
Wan Furong put on a smile and was about to go forward to greet him.
To everyone's surprise, Madam He didn't stop walking, nor did she even glance at Xiangbao Pavilion; she went straight over there.
"Huh?" Wan Furong was taken aback, thinking he had misread it.
He hurriedly raised his voice and called out, "Madam He!"
Mrs. He was eager to go to the fabric shop in front to pick out some fabrics when she suddenly heard someone calling her, and she immediately stopped.
Looking back, I saw Wan Furong's smiling face.
"So it's Manager Wan!"
Wan Furong hurried to the street to greet her, "Madam He, how have you been? Xiangbaoge has just released some new rouge and face powder, which are very suitable for your elegant and noble temperament. Would you like to go in and take a look? For such a big customer as you, Xiangbaoge always offers discounts."
Madam He then glanced at the signboard of Xiangbaoge.
She used to come here every few days, but she hasn't been here for over a month now.
