Chapter 2: The Little Kid Who Can Endure Pain

Chapter 2: The Little Kid Who Can Endure Pain

In no time, he finished the bowl of instant noodles completely, leaving not a single drop of soup.

Jiang Ling made another bowl of noodles and brought it out, only to find that the old man had already finished eating.

"Grandpa, are you full? If not, I have some more here."

The old man waved his hands awkwardly, "No, no, thank you so much for letting me taste such delicious food. It's a pity that I don't have any money on me."

As he spoke, he took off his basket. "These are all the wild vegetables I picked up on the mountain today, as well as some fresh pine mushrooms and straw mushrooms. They are all wild things from the mountains, and they are not worth much. Please don't mind them, shopkeeper."

Jiang Ling refused, saying, "It was my treat, how can I accept something from an old person?"

At the old man's insistence, Jiang Ling still took some mushrooms and wild vegetables.

As for the bottle of mineral water, Jiang Ling insisted that he take it, and showed him that she had plenty more.

After finishing her instant noodles, Jiang Ling stood at the door for a while to enjoy the cool breeze.

Only then did he get up and begin tidying up the second floor.

Jiang Ling suddenly thought of something.

I looked up and the light bulb seemed to be working normally again.

If it works, use it; if you don't need to replace it, it saves her trouble.

Because the shop had been closed for many years, it had accumulated a slight musty smell. Jiang Ling looked around and saw that no one was passing by, so she left the door open to let it continue to ventilate.

The second floor is relatively small, consisting of only one room and a small living room.

The furniture is complete, but it's neither new nor old.

Jiang Ling finished cleaning in a little over an hour.

The furniture and such were just what they had to make do with; she was no longer the pampered young lady she once was. There simply wasn't enough money to buy new things.

I was just about to go downstairs for a drink of water when I heard a noise coming from downstairs.

"Is anyone there? Shop owner?"

Jiang Ling wondered, who would come so late?

Is the shopkeeper there?

"They're here!"

I had just walked down the stairs when I saw a young man in Hanfu standing at the door, one hand resting on the door.

He looked no more than twelve or thirteen years old.

Jiang Ling looked at his long hair tied up high. Was it now fashionable for men in this village to have long hair?

Or is there a Hanfu (traditional Han clothing) event being held in the village tonight?

"Hello, is there anything I can help you with?"

"...The female shopkeeper?"

Seeing that he was engrossed in the Hanfu game, Jiang Ling spoke to him in classical Chinese: "Young master, our shop is not open to the public. May I ask what you need?"

The young man paused for a moment, as if only then remembering that he should bow.

It must be said that this little boy's manners are very much in the style of the ancients; his crossed-hands salute is even more standard than what is shown in TV dramas.

"I am disturbing you late at night. I was passing by and slipped and fell on the slippery road due to the rain. I am slightly injured. I wonder if you have any medicine for my wounds? I am willing to pay a high price to buy it. Please do me a favor."

I must say, this little brat actually speaks ancient sayings quite well.

Jiang Ling looked at his Hanfu; there were signs of friction on his knees, and his body was covered in mud.

He probably ran out to play and tripped, got injured, and got his clothes dirty, so he was afraid of being scolded when he got home.

I was thinking of finding a place to deal with it first.

Although he speaks and acts very seriously, what kind of well-behaved child could be out playing wildly at this hour?

“We do have topical medication. Come in first,” Jiang Ling said, reaching out to help him up.

The boy was startled and quickly released her hand, blushing as he said, "...Men and women...should not touch each other!"

Jiang Ling was speechless. "How old are you, little brat? You're talking about this already? You're probably still in elementary school!"

The man was clearly intimidated by her. "I... am twelve years old... and I am still in school."

Jiang Ling rolled her eyes at him. "Hurry up, how long are you going to take this time? Don't you want to go home?"

The boy sighed and finally stopped resisting, letting her help him walk towards the sofa by the door.

Jiang Ling helped him sit down, then squatted down and lifted his robe.

This action startled the boy, causing him to lean back. He hurriedly tried to pull his leg away, but the touch on his wound made him gasp in pain.

"Why are you moving around like that? I'm all alone here. Do you think you can apply the medicine yourself?"

Having learned his lesson, the boy finally stopped moving around and let her do as she pleased.

Jiang Ling picked up the scissors on the counter. Judging from the quality of the Hanfu, it probably wasn't cheap, so she asked him anyway.

"Can the pants be cut?"

The boy nodded.

Jiang Ling then cut open her pants, revealing the wound on her knee.

The wound was rubbed raw and still had bright red blood on it!

Several areas of the skin were chafed and wrinkled together. Jiang Ling gasped in shock at the sight.

Seeing that his expression didn't change much, I thought it was just a minor disagreement.

I didn't expect this little brat to be so good at enduring pain!

"Wait here, I'll go get your medicine."

Jiang Ling turned and walked to the shelf, grabbing a bottle of Yunnan Baiyao and some bandages. She also picked up a bottle of mineral water.

"Bear with it, it will hurt a little."

First, I simply cleaned the wound with mineral water. Then I opened the bottle of Yunnan Baiyao, shook it a couple of times, and sprayed it onto my knee three or four times.

Jiang Ling had never treated external injuries before, but when she was a child, she would play and fall, and her grandfather would treat her like this.

The boy had already clenched his fists, bracing himself for the pain.

Suddenly, a cool sensation spread throughout the wound.

The boy was somewhat surprised; he realized that applying medicine didn't always involve a stinging or burning sensation.

Just a few light sprays and the wound, which was hot and swollen a moment ago, felt much more comfortable.

What kind of miracle cure is this? It's so effective!

Jiang Ling gently bandaged his wound.

The boy couldn't help but scrutinize the woman before him. Her clothes were peculiar, her hair disheveled, and she looked no more than sixteen or seventeen years old. (The actual female lead was over eighteen.)

Although her behavior was presumptuous, she was very beautiful.

Having lived in the imperial harem since childhood and seen countless beauties, he had to admit that the girl before him possessed a unique charm.

In his haste to escape the assassins, he ran here and found that this was the only small shop in the area, so he had no hope.

I never expected to meet a girl like this...

Suddenly remembering something, he hurriedly looked outside the door, gazing into the darkness with worry in his eyes.

"This kind of wound needs to be treated promptly, otherwise it will get infected. Here's a bottle of Yunnan Baiyao for you too. Spray it three to five times a day, and it will heal quickly."

After Jiang Ling bandaged the wound, she handed him a 60-gram bottle of Yunnan Baiyao spray.

The boy looked at the palm-sized bottle in front of him. It was neither wood nor iron, and it felt cool to the touch. There were some very small words on it. How were they engraved?

Just two sprays and the medicine is applied? What kind of miracle drug is this?

Unfortunately, time was of the essence, and he didn't have time to examine it closely.

The boy reached into his robes and rummaged around, only to find three copper coins. The jade pendant at his waist had also fallen off during his escape!

This is awkward! The words about spending a lot of money to buy it are still ringing in my ears.

How is he supposed to explain this?!

"Young lady, I..."

Seeing his troubled expression, Jiang Ling smiled and said, "I won't take your money! Go back quickly, your parents must be worried about you so late."

The boy's pale face instantly turned bright red.

He had no choice but to place his only three copper coins on the table and then bow with his hands clasped.

"Young lady, these three copper coins will cover part of the medical expenses. I know this is far from enough. I will send someone to deliver the rest to your door tomorrow. Trust me, I promise I will not go back on my word!"

Jiang Ling looked at his serious expression; he seemed very earnest.

"Okay, I'll wait."

After seeing the boy off, Jiang Ling collapsed onto the sofa, exhausted.

To prevent anyone else from coming in, Jiang Ling closed the door.

I quickly took a shower and went to bed.

I slept very soundly.

Jiang Ling got up very early.

The air in the countryside is very fresh, and the sunlight shines in from outside.

Just as she was about to open the door, she suddenly hesitated.

She turned around and walked towards the back of the warehouse.

A silver roller shutter door was right in front of me.

Jiang Ling then remembered that she had noticed the shop had two doors, one on the east and one on the west, when she was cleaning last night.

The roller shutter door seemed to be rusty, and she couldn't open it no matter how many times she tried, so she just left it alone.

Jiang Ling heard the sound of traffic coming from behind the roller shutter door.

She put her hand on it, wanting to try again.

This time, however,

She opened it with ease!
