Chapter 87 Is this leftovers?

Chapter 87 Is this leftovers?

Jiang Ling took a two-hour nap and woke up at noon.

As I went downstairs, the grocery store in front of me had a completely new look.

The floor was swept clean, and the items on the shelves were rearranged and neatly stacked.

Xiao Ran was meticulously wiping away the dust accumulated on top of the last row of cabinets with a rag.

It seems he hasn't stopped for the past two hours; he really cherishes this opportunity.

Jiang Ling swallowed the words she wanted to say.

Oh well, it's only the first day after all. He'll get used to it eventually.

The sun is high in the sky; it's time to make lunch.

When Jiang Ling bought the watermelon, she also bought some cooked vegetables, which could be eaten after heating them up.

There are still some green vegetables that Xiaoran brought in the refrigerator. I'll stir-fry a plate of them, cook some rice, and then we can have dinner.

Jiang Ling was busy in the kitchen by herself, while Xiao Ran was working very diligently and did not notice that Jiang Ling had already gone downstairs.

He looked at the sky outside; it was already dinnertime. He hesitated, wondering whether he should wake Sister Jiang.

An enticing aroma of food wafted out from the kitchen.

Immediately following was the sizzling sound of hot oil hitting the vegetables in the wok.

He quickly threw the rag in his hand into the wooden bucket and jogged over to the kitchen.

He immediately saw blue flames rising from the cabinet! He opened his mouth in surprise.

"Xiao Ran, sit down for a moment, dinner will be ready soon." Jiang Ling kept swinging the spatula.

Xiao Ran stood there stunned for a moment, then quickly walked in and spoke somewhat awkwardly.

"Sister Jiang, Xiao Ran... Xiao Ran can cook. Let Xiao Ran cook from now on..."

Since Jiang Ling hired him, she knew he would eventually have to deal with kitchen stuff.

She turned off the gas stove. "Look, this is how you use it. Hold this button with your fingers and gently turn it this way, and the flame will come out."

Xiao Ran watched intently, her eyes sparkling with surprise.

"Here, you give it a try."

Jiang Ling gave up her seat. Xiao Ran's height only reached her chin, which was just right.

"Me...me?" Xiao Ran was a little incredulous.

Encouragingly, Jiang Ling stepped forward cautiously, mimicking her actions. He placed his hand on the round metal knob, held his breath, and gently twisted it.

With a soft "pop," a blue flame instantly leaped up, jumping and burning above the black circle.

"Wow—" he exclaimed softly.

After turning off the fire on the stove, Jiang Ling led him to the sink.

"From now on, when we need to use water in the shop, we won't need to fetch it from outside. We can just turn on this switch and clear water will flow out."

Jiang Ling turned on the tap, and clear water flowed down.

Next, Jiang Ling introduced all the kitchen tools.

After Xiaoran's initial surprise, she seemed to have calmly accepted it.

"Sister Jiang, I know how to use it now. I'll cook next time." He was aware of his place; he was hired to work.

"Okay. But you can't tell anyone about what's here, not even your family. Understand?"

Without the slightest hesitation, Xiao Ran nodded vigorously. "Xiao Ran remembers! Xiao Ran promises not to tell anyone!"

Jiang Ling chose him because she knew he wouldn't ask many questions.

"Okay, take these two out and get ready to eat." Jiang Ling handed him two heated meat dishes.

Xiao Ran took the two steaming plates, and the rich aroma of meat wafted into her nose!

One was soy sauce chicken, and the other was braised pork belly. He subconsciously swallowed.

It smells so good!

My stomach couldn't help but rumble.

But this shouldn't be for me; it's for Sister Jiang.

He hesitated about how to ask Sister Jiang for a 15-minute break to go home for a meal before coming back.

Although his mind was thinking that, his eyes never left the meat in his hands.

Jiang Ling carried out two bowls of white rice and a plate of stir-fried vegetables, placing them on the small square table behind the counter where they usually ate.

"What are you waiting for? Sit down and eat."

Xiao Ran's eyes flashed as she looked at the two sets of bowls and chopsticks on the table, and said uncertainly:

"Sister Jiang, can I eat here too?"

"Of course, otherwise how could I finish all this food?"

She doesn't want to eat alone.

Xiao Ran smiled and happily sat down. "Thank you, Sister Jiang."

"No need to thank me, I'll provide meals whenever I'm around. By the way, if you get hungry, just grab whatever's available in the shop and eat it yourself, no need to ask me."

Upon hearing this, Xiao Ran quickly waved her hand, "Xiao Ran isn't hungry, Xiao Ran won't steal food!"

Jiang Ling smiled helplessly, "What are you talking about stealing food? This shop has plenty of food."

Jiang Ling sighed. Oh well, let him get used to it first.

Xiao Ran ate the meal with exceptional relish.

In his memory, he rarely had the chance to eat white rice.

Even during the autumn harvest, the harvested rice is kept to sell for money, and it can only be eaten once or twice occasionally.

This white rice paired with tender and juicy braised pork is simply divine!

And that savory chicken!

He can eat three bowls!

Considering the proverb: "A half-grown boy can eat his father out of house and home."

Jiang Ling cooked twice as much rice as usual.

The result is...

We finished eating, but there was still a lot of food left!

Xiao Ran was so full that she kept burping, and her little face was glowing with satisfaction.

He thought it would be great if he could work in the grocery store for the rest of his life.

Jiang Ling looked at the remaining half-plate of soy sauce chicken and half-plate of braised pork, hesitating whether to throw them away, when suddenly an idea came to her.

"The leftover meat and vegetables don't keep well, Xiaoran, why don't you take them home for your family?"

Xiao Ran looked up in surprise. Was Sister Jiang referring to the chicken and meat on the table?

"It's still early, and your family should still be eating. You can deliver it there now in time."

Jiang Ling didn't give him a chance to refuse, and deftly placed the two still-warm plates into his hands.

After Xiao Ran left, Jiang Ling tidied up the dishes on the table.

Xiao Ran's hand is injured, so she'll have to wash it herself this time.

Xiao Ran ran all the way, afraid that the food would get cold and even more afraid that the soup would spill.

He practically rushed into his own yard.

"Mother! Father! Xiao Qi! I'm back!"

Inside the main room, a family of three was sitting around a small square table eating.

The table was simply set with a few brownish-yellow steamed buns and a small plate of stir-fried winter melon shreds.

Zhao Yin's wife was just wondering whether to bring Xiao Ran some food when he suddenly returned. She was about to call him for dinner.

As soon as I stood up, I saw the two oily plates my son was carrying, and the rich aroma of meat wafted over from afar.

She opened her mouth in surprise: "Xiao Ran? This is..."

Xiao Ran carefully placed the plate on the dining table. "Sister Jiang and I ate the leftovers at noon. Sister Jiang said they wouldn't be good to leave them for too long, so she asked me to bring them back for you to eat!"

Xiao Qi's eyes were fixed on the meat on the plate, and the cornbread in his hand suddenly lost its appeal: "Dad! It's meat! Lots of meat! It smells so good!"

Zhao Yin looked on in even greater surprise.

This doesn't look like leftovers from an ordinary family.
