Chapter 104 The Dusty Mermaid
"Eeya eeya." Xie Mianmian called softly, her fluttering feet finally landing on the flat deck.
It turned out that the other side of the room's window wasn't the sea, but a narrow deck walkway.
Xie Mianmian was just bluffing that person, I didn't expect him to actually believe it, he's so arrogant and stupid.
The surroundings were quiet; the previous noise had stopped. Xie Mianmian scratched her head. It seemed that her father and the others had gone back, and that person should have been caught.
It's okay if the bad guy escapes, because she already knows what he looks like: a chubby bullfrog.
Xie Mianmian didn't dare to look back into the window, afraid of being discovered, so she half-squatted down and walked out, close to the wall.
Although it was the height of summer, the sea breeze at night was chilly, causing Xie Mianmian to wrap her clothes tighter, feeling a strange sense of coolness reminiscent of late autumn.
She looked out at the sea, which was pitch black, with waves crashing against the boat one after another, making a gurgling sound.
Only the waning crescent moon, hanging high in the sky, emitted a cold, white light, lavishly scattering it across the vast sea, leaving behind delicate, shimmering silver flakes that drifted gently.
Occasionally, dolphins leap high out of the water, emitting melodious calls, passing through the bright crescent moon, and then gracefully returning to the sea.
Such a vast ocean is both terrifying and inexplicably alluring, drawing people to this mysterious sea.
Xie Mianmian clung to the railing and looked out into the sea, staring blankly at the shimmering moonlight on the water. Suddenly, she saw a reef not far away with what appeared to be a blurry figure on it.
Are there still people playing on the rocks this late?
Xie Mianmian rubbed her eyes and looked again carefully.
This sight startled her greatly; it was... a woman?!
But even the bright moonlight couldn't illuminate the dark figure. Xie Mianmian could only see a slender woman leaning against the rocks, her elbows bent, propping herself up.
What surprised Xie Mianmian the most was that the woman had a head of flowing, thick, and extremely long hair, which was blown into the air by the salty sea breeze.
More of her beautiful hair covered her exquisite body, revealing the woman's lower body. Xie Mianmian excitedly covered her mouth.
A beautiful, wide fish tail swayed casually, sometimes dipping into the seawater, sometimes flapping in the air.
Could this be a mermaid?! She knew it; the legend was true, the foreign man really had seen a mermaid, and now she had seen one with her own eyes!
How amazing, how beautiful, I love it!
Xie Mianmian couldn't help but jump up and down, waving at the woman, then cupping her hands to her mouth and whispering, "Mermaid sister, look over here!"
She should be called Mermaid Sister, right? Are there male mermaids?
Seemingly sensing that someone was calling its name, the figure finally reacted. It turned its head, saw Xie Mianmian on the boat, and wagged its tail happily.
The moonlight finally shone generously on it, and Xie Mianmian saw its true appearance.
Now you know why its back is black: its original color is ordinary fish gray. It's hard to describe its appearance; its eyes are small, somewhat like a dolphin, but its head is rounded.
Xie Mianmian, who had been standing on tiptoe, landed with great disappointment. This... this is not beautiful at all. The child pouted, "This is not a mermaid at all, sob sob sob."
These are all stories adults tell to coax children; foreign men are bad!
The figure turned and fell into the sea with a splash. After bobbing up and down in the water for a few moments, it quickly came to the bottom of Xie Mianmian.
The child could see it more clearly now; it wasn't flowing hair at all, but a clump of dark green seaweed that she had seen on the muddy beach when she went beachcombing at dusk.
It turns out it had seaweed on its head.
Xie Mianmian was still persistent and asked, "Excuse me, are you the mermaid?"
The dugong stretched out its flippers and fiddled with the seaweed, as if asking, "Am I not beautiful like this?"
The seaweed, soaked by seawater, clumped together, limp and slumped to one side, no longer flowing gracefully.
"...Beautiful, your hair is so green, um, it looks good." This was the first time Xie Mianmian had ever said something so difficult to praise someone.
Do foreign men know that the mermaids they yearn for are like this?
Dugong said happily, "Really? Thank you, Mianmian. You're the second person to compliment me. You're so kind, waaaah! Everyone else says I'm ugly..."
They even used human language to mock it, saying it was just a poor imitation and despicable.
The dugong became excited, and its upper body emerged from the water. Xie Mianmian saw that there were two large seashells stuck to its chest.
The child scratched his head. "This seashell... are you sure you need it?"
"You're not ugly at all, you know? Lots of people like you, and they even make up stories about you to tell to kids. In short, you're very popular!"
The dugong excitedly dived into the sea and swam a few times. It knew that it had an audience; the two-legged creatures on land liked it very much!
And so, Xie Mianmian repaired a heart that was originally riddled with holes, and Du Gen became confident again!
"Okay, Mianmian has to go take care of some important business. I'll chat with you again when I get back, okay?"
The dugong puffed out its chest. "It's so late, it's dangerous outside. What is Mianmian going to do?"
The child told it the truth.
“I often travel around here, so I roughly know where the Lin family’s merchant ships are. Mianmian, you don’t need to go. I’ll keep an eye on them for you.”
Xie Mianmian hesitated, but the dugong was grateful for the child's comfort and patted the shell on its chest with its flippers, saying that it would take care of the matter.
"Then thank you." After saying that, Xie Mianmian put her hands together and muttered something.
"Little ants, busy carrying food, help Mianmian carry weapons~ Please move the original disaster relief food back, and then move the weapons to the Xu family's cabin."
Then Xie Mianmian took out a handkerchief from her pocket, unfolded it, and inside were two pieces of pastry, which the child had casually brought with him before leaving the house.
"After the ants finish their business, give them these pastries. When you come back, there will be some for you too. Mianmian will go get them for you."
The dugong nodded vigorously, cracking its shell loudly to indicate its commitment to completing the task.
Xie Mianmian lay on the deck, straining to reach her arm out over the railing, and tossed the wrapped pastries to the dugong.
The dugong placed the pastry on its head, flicked its tail fin, and quickly disappeared from Xie Mianmian's sight.
She was smiling and about to stand up when, in the next instant, her heart began to ache violently again, her vision went completely white, and she fainted on the deck.
As the large ship rocked back and forth, the child's limp little body gradually rolled towards the gap in the railing.
A short while later, in this unnoticed place, Xie Mianmian suddenly plunged into the deep, dark sea.
