Chapter 159 Formation of the Mian Army
The tail tip patted the giant python's seven-inch mark, firmly indicating that it was going too!
Black Wolf handed Xie Mianmian a lotus leaf containing wild fruit, saying, "Whatever decision you make, I will support you."
Xie Mianmian held the lotus leaf, and the shiny fruits inside seemed to be greeting her, tempting the two-legged beast to hurry up and eat her.
She smiled with relief, "Okay, then let's go together."
Black Wolf pondered for a moment and said, "It's not enough for just a few of us. Let's call those old guys from Green Dragon Mountain as well."
Xie Mianmian thought about it and agreed. Although the giant pythons were very powerful, they probably wouldn't be able to withstand a war of attrition if the other side used a strategy of attrition warfare.
"But will they be willing to come?"
Ten years ago, the Seventh Prince repeatedly warned her not to use her abilities, and she had always obeyed. Without that power, Xie Mianmian was not confident that she could successfully persuade the other beasts.
Black Wolf affirmed, "They promised, and they definitely will."
The situation was urgent, and since they had already decided to do it, Xie Mianmian and the others did not delay any longer.
The snow wolf carried her on its back, and the beasts raced all the way to the depths of Qinglong Mountain.
Here, dense forests stretched as far as the eye could see, with towering trees blocking out the sun. They arrived at the clearing where the shipwreck had been discovered years ago.
The black wolf raised its majestic head high, and a long, majestic howl emanated from its throat, echoing through the deep mountains.
"Waaah!"
For a moment, birds and insects fell silent, and wild beasts hidden in the mountains cautiously tried to discern the direction from which the sound came.
After an unknown amount of time, rustling sounds came from the vicinity of the open space.
Xie Mianmian looked around and discovered that many pairs of scarlet beast eyes had appeared in the dense forest at some point, blinking as they stared at them from the shadows.
Like twinkling stars, but in a beastly version.
As the owners of those beast eyes stepped forward one by one, Xie Mianmian witnessed a spectacular scene she had never seen in her previous life.
They were beasts, of all kinds, different species, different sizes, but all of them had bulging muscles and sharp teeth and claws.
It looks like it's carrying the weight of many pheasants and rabbits on its shoulders; it's incredibly pathetic.
One of the large tigers slowly approached, its muscles bulging in beautiful arcs as it moved. Its fur was smooth, and it looked like a powerful leader.
One of its eyes had been gouged out, and its remaining beastly eye was glaring menacingly at them.
Especially when looking at the beautiful woman who suddenly appeared in the middle—Xie Mianmian, the one who had always been protected by the black wolves.
"Why did you call us here?"
Xie Mianmian stepped forward, fearlessly looking directly into the tiger's one eye, and told them about the Northern Rong's beast army approaching the city.
"I have come here to ask you if you are willing to join my ranks and fight the enemy?"
The beasts fell silent, then erupted into a heated discussion.
"To form an army like us is unheard of."
"Aren't we just meant to be hunted by two-legged creatures? Is this a transformation from prey to soldiers?"
"Will this work? Are they planning to kill us all?"
Listening to the beasts' conversations, Xie Mianmian sighed inwardly. So, it still didn't work.
She tapped her forehead, racking her brains for words to recruit them, such as setting a boundary on Qinglong Mountain where no human or beast may kill within that boundary.
The treatment of wild beasts in the army is not bad; one beast gets a chicken per meal? The money I saved from selling storybooks should be enough.
"Anything else?" Xie Mianmian stroked her chin, deep in thought.
Before she could speak, the tiger said in a deep voice, "I promise you."
Upon hearing this, the beasts erupted in another uproar. Making a deal with a two-legged creature—it really dared to do that!
The tiger shouted, "We are also subjects of the Great Zhou. If the beasts of the Northern Rong break through the capital, will there still be a place for us on Qinglong Mountain? We will still have to fight them then!"
The beasts whispered among themselves and nodded in agreement.
The tiger opened its blood-red mouth wide and said, "We're not vegetarians! Let the beasts of Beirong see what we, the beasts of Qinglong Mountain, are like! We're not to be trifled with!"
The beasts cheered and shouted in unison, "Azure Dragon Mountain! Azure Dragon Mountain!"
A chaotic scene unfolded, the wild, competitive instincts within the animals were fully unleashed.
Seeing the wild beasts crowding around to register with the giant python, Xie Mianmian said gratefully to the tiger, "Thank you so much for this. Luckily you said those words, otherwise we would still be in trouble."
The tiger didn't speak, but simply lowered its head regally towards the woman in front of it.
Xie Mianmian was unsure of what to do, and she hesitated before reaching out to the tiger.
Just like you would pet a wolf, gently stroke its big head.
The tiger did not resist, but instead tucked its round ears behind its head, comfortably squinted its eyes, and moved its body closer and closer to Xie Mianmian.
It made a gurgling sound in its throat.
Xie Mianmian stopped what she was doing in surprise.
It rang, it rang. Even a tiger is just a big cat, right?
The tiger seemed to have been woken up halfway through a sweet dream. It looked at Xie Mianmian with dissatisfaction, saying, "Don't stop, I want to pet you."
Xie Mianmian had no choice but to continue petting the big cat.
There were too many beasts signing up, so she had to turn away some of the old, weak, sick, and disabled ones, and also refused to accept beasts that had not yet reached adulthood.
They could only stand aside, staring longingly at the chosen, eager beasts, and sighing to themselves, wondering why they couldn't go on the battlefield to fight the enemy.
Xie Mianmian suddenly had a flash of inspiration: an army needs logistics soldiers, right? It needs medics, cooks, and so on.
She walked towards the old, weak, sick, and disabled, and selected some animals that looked clever, adding them to her collection.
Soon, the group of beasts that had joined the Mian Army were about to leave, and they bowed one last time towards Qinglong Mountain.
This parting is now a long and arduous journey; I hope I can return home someday.
Mianmian had many beasts, more than 150 in total. She could only arrange for them to stay at the manor outside the city. Then she took about 20 of the beasts she had selected back to her residence.
These are the most physically gifted elites, and Xie Mianmian plans to train them well to become leaders, so that they can lead their teams and fight together on the battlefield.
After all this commotion, it was completely dark by then.
In a secluded spot, animal ladders were built outside the city walls. This was their first collaboration, but they managed to sneak into the capital without any major incidents and return to the Xie residence.
The courtyard of Xie Mianmian was silent. The oppressive aura released by the bloodthirsty beasts made all the insects tremble and dare not utter a sound.
The women of the Xie family returned. Xie Mingyi and Wen Shuwan heard that Xie Mianmian had returned very late, hadn't eaten, and looked quite strange.
They felt there must be something fishy going on, and that Xie Mianmian had probably done something outrageous again, which wasn't the first time. They felt they could accept it.
The two, still discussing matters related to the printing shop, had no idea what kind of turbulent storm awaited them.
It's not like Xie Mianmian's childhood, where a spanking would be enough.
