Chapter 44 Returning Home

Chapter 44 Going Home

Seeing that the wolf seemed to have understood what he had said, the Seventh Prince pondered for a moment and said, "You were born to be free in the deep forests and wild mountains, not to be trapped in the capital city where people are devoured without spitting out bones."

The wolf understood and sadly lowered its head.

"You don't belong to us, go back."

Hearing this, it got angry. Why was it excluded? The cub still belonged to it, the wolf thought.

The Seventh Prince fell silent, his dark eyes gazing at it quietly.

The wolf looked at its cubs sitting obediently eating pastries not far away, then turned back to gaze at the deep forest it had come from, and hesitated for the first time.

After a long pause, Wild Wolf made a crucial decision, lifted his foot and walked towards Xie Mianmian, his back view resolute.

Its first half of life belonged to the forest, but its second half belonged to its cubs, the wolf thought.

I will defy my nature and step into the human world, steadfastly.

Upon seeing the suddenly appearing wolf, Xie Mianmian was surprised for a moment, but quickly greeted her friend happily, "You came to play with me? But we're going back soon."

As she spoke, the child looked a little disappointed, "But Mianmian will miss you." She held up a piece of pastry and offered it to the wolf.

"The wild fruit you gave me was the sweetest fruit I've ever eaten. Mianmian will never forget it." Xie Mianmian raised her elbow and wiped her eyes.

The wolf swallowed the pastry in one gulp, his voice muffled, carrying a barely perceptible hope, "Can I go back with you?"

After saying that, it unconsciously started digging in the ground with its two front paws. Its dark gray fur covered its wolf face, otherwise it might have been spotted. It blushed.

Suddenly, a pair of soft little hands encircled its neck; it was a child, who hugged it tightly.

The voice came from beside its head, "Are you going to leave your own home and come to Mianmian's home?"

The wolf nuzzled the child's head. "That's right." I have no regrets.

"Then we can play together every day!" Xie Mianmian excitedly patted the wolf's back. "From now on, my home will be your home."

The wolf—no, it's a wolf with cubs now; its name is Black Wolf.

The black wolf's large, fluffy tail swayed merrily behind it.

Xie Mianmian led the black wolf by the ear and quietly approached the carriage. She opened a box, winked at it, and the black wolf obediently jumped into the box without making a sound.

"Mianmian, where have you gone again?" It was my second sister's voice.

The child hurriedly closed the box and replied, "Here it is!" Then he climbed onto the carriage and sat down.

Xie Mingyi walked over while instructing the servants. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Xie Mianmian sitting peacefully in the carriage.

But her intuition was strange; a phrase popped into her mind: The child is so quiet…

They're just causing trouble!

Xie Mingyi looked around suspiciously, but found nothing unusual. Could it be that she was just overthinking things?

Xie Mianmian held her breath, her two index fingers twirling back and forth, clearly looking guilty.

Xie Mingyi sighed, "Never mind, we'll find out what kind of trouble the kid got into when we get back."

The spring hunt came to a successful conclusion, and a long line of carriages returned to the capital from Qinglong Mountain.

The Xie family's carriage returned to their residence.

When Xie Mingyi opened a box, her temples throbbed. Could someone tell her why a black wolf had grown out of the box?

Xie Mianmian chuckled, putting her arm around Black Wolf with one hand, looking like the two buddies, all lovey-dovey.

"Black Wolf will be living in our house from now on."

After watching the show, Xie Huaijin whispered a few words to Xie Mingyi, who was so angry that her head was spinning.

She stared at the black wolf in surprise. It turned out that it was the wolf that had protected her little sister in the inner circle. She remembered what her third brother had just whispered in her ear, "It can protect little sister from where we can't see it."

Xie Mingyi took out a box from another trunk, opened it, and found it full of dried meat, which was made from the game they had hunted and smoked over charcoal. It tasted very good.

She handed the box to the children, saying, "You two take this and eat, but don't run around, okay?"

Xie Mianmian giggled as she took the box and led the black wolf to the lakeside in the back garden.

The child sat lazily on the grass, while the black wolf squatted beside him, eating the jerky Xie Mianmian fed to it.

You tell me, how can the jerky made by these two-legged creatures (chew, chew, chew) taste even better than the ones they hunt (chew, chew, chew).

That night, everyone in the room was fast asleep when the black wolf got up from its den in the outer room and quietly went into the inner room.

The beast's eerie green eyes glanced at the two figures, one large and one small, on the bed, then silently curled up on the footstool beside the bed.

I slept soundly through the night, and dawn broke.

The second young lady of the Xie family got up sleepily, and then stepped barefoot onto a soft, fluffy surface.

"Ah!" Xie Mingyi exclaimed, pulling her foot back, and then saw the black wolf running away with its tail between its legs, whimpering.

Xie Mingyi looked at the room, which was becoming increasingly unlike her own style, with bows and arrows and black wolves everywhere. She shook her head and couldn't help but laugh out loud.

The next night, the black wolf discovered that its den had been moved to the inner room next to the bed.

During the days Xie Mianmian was back, she went to school during the day, visited the snow wolf and the giant python, and played with the black wolf at night.

On the day she returned, Xie Mianmian asked her second sister that there were still ten days until the fifth day of next month. So the child put ten pieces of dried meat in another box, and she ate one piece of dried meat every day.

These days, she has been looking at the box of dried meat with great care, counting it over and over, silently hoping that she can go out and play in a few more days.

Finally, Xie Mianmian finished the last piece of jerky.

We can go out and have fun tomorrow night, haha.

Now that he is a Lieutenant General, no longer the Night Patrolman he used to be, Xie Huaijin goes out on duty during the day and returns home for dinner in the evening.

That day, Xie Huaijin finished his shift early, changed his clothes, and planned to go to Yueya Garden for his appointment.

Xie Mianmian sneaked into her third brother's room, her voice excited, "Third brother, let's go."

Xie Huaijin glanced at his younger sister and casually straightened his sleeves.

He wore a light blue brocade robe with cloud patterns, his posture was upright, and a white jade belt with a warm texture was tied around his waist, outlining the young man's strong and narrow waist.

"It's my turn to go. You stay home and behave yourself."

"No, Sister Bai Yun clearly invited me too!" Xie Mianmian said fiercely, hands on her hips.

"Children shouldn't go to that place. When you grow up, your third brother will take you there, okay?"

"If you don't take me with you, I'll sneak off. I'll have Black Wolf take me, and in a flash, we'll be out of the manor!"

The two stared at each other, one looking down and the other looking up.

After a long pause, Xie Huaijin finally gave in, raising his hands and saying helplessly, "Fine, I'll take you there, ancestor!"

Xie Huaijin left a message for Xie Mingyi, then quickly grabbed the child, mounted his horse, and rode away, deciding to leave the mansion first.

This was Xie Mianmian's first time visiting Sipingfang, a place full of vibrant colors and diverse charms.

The little child was mesmerized.
