Chapter 37 Old Guo
The rain was quite heavy; it was still raining even after Lin Guangsheng and his wife had finished get off work.
After taking off their raincoats, the couple quickly drank a cup of ginger tea.
"Hmm, why did it suddenly start raining, and so heavily at that?"
"That's normal. You should drink something hot right away, or you'll catch a cold."
Yin Qing nodded.
Not only Lin Guangsheng and his wife, but everyone else in the family was also asked to drink a cup of ginger tea.
Little Peach didn't like it because it was spicy, but she knew it was good for her health, so she drank the ginger tea anyway. In return, she received a piece of candy from her mother and immediately smiled.
Song Yi sat next to her, and when he saw her smile, he smiled too.
Yin Qing stood helplessly by; this child was just too shy.
Yin Qing had met many children, some boisterous and some well-behaved, but this was the first time she had seen Song Yi so shy. It wasn't that he was bad, but he seemed a little too gentle, and she was afraid he would be bullied.
Fortunately, things are still going well so far.
"With this rain, the fields will probably be busier," Lin Guangsheng said from the side.
“Brother is right.” Lin Guangyi sat down next to him.
"You've arranged everything?"
"Everything is arranged. Once the rain has stopped, we'll dig what needs to be dug, and we'll also clear out any wasteland that has the potential."
"It's good that you know what's going on." Lin Guangsheng, the second brother, was quite satisfied with his position as the brigade leader. He was responsible in his work and not the kind of person who was always looking for trouble. Even if he did cause trouble, it was for the good of the villagers. He had his own selfish motives, but they weren't entirely selfish.
"By the way, big brother, there's something I need to tell you." Lin Guangyi looked at his older brother; it was something he found difficult to say.
"What's up?"
Lin Guangyi hesitated for a moment, but still asked, "Do you still remember Old Guo?"
"Old Guo?" Lin Guangsheng narrowed his eyes and looked up at Lin Guangyi.
Old Guo was quite famous in Xiaolin Village, but that was over a decade ago.
Old Guo was blind, and he was also a blind fortune teller.
For decades, it has held a considerable position in Xiaolin Village.
But one day, for some unknown reason, he went completely insane.
Some say he was punished by heaven because he revealed too many secrets of heaven, while others say he was being retaliated against, since Old Guo's fortune telling had caused many families to be broken up and wives and children to be separated.
Speaking of which, Lin Guangsheng was also one of the victims under Lao Guotou's command.
Because Old Lady Lin had consulted Old Guo about her fortune, and Old Guo said that Lin Guangsheng was destined to bring misfortune to his parents, and it was best for her to stay away from this son.
If it weren't for Old Man Lin's pride, Lin Guangsheng would have been thrown away long ago, and there wouldn't be the Lin Guangsheng we know today.
Even if they didn't throw him away, Old Man Lin and his wife weren't very good to Lin Guangsheng; they wished he would just live outside.
Not only do they live outside, but they also make him do all the housework and won't give him food if they forget to.
It was only because the villagers couldn't bear to see Lin Guangsheng suffer that each family gave him a little something, and he was able to slowly recover.
When Lin Guangsheng got a little older, he started to find his own way to make a living. First, he focused on getting enough to eat, then he studied, and finally he passed the exam to become a worker.
I must say, Lin Guangsheng has been quite an inspiration over the past few decades.
However, it cannot be denied that Lin Guangsheng has also suffered a lot over the past few decades.
Seeing that Lin Guangsheng had risen to prominence, Old Man Lin and Old Woman Lin also came to their door. In addition, with Old Guo dead, there were many rumors and a lot of people cursing him. Naturally, Old Man Lin and Old Woman Lin pushed the blame onto Old Guo.
These days, filial piety is paramount. Old Man Lin and his wife are Lin Guangsheng's parents, so Lin Guangsheng can't really break ties with them. That's how the seemingly harmonious scene we have today came about.
It could be said that Old Guo was a taboo subject for Lin Guangsheng, and he never expected to hear that name again from his second brother after more than ten years.
Lin Guangsheng looked at the other person.
Lin Guangyi was somewhat afraid of his elder brother's gaze: "Ahem, it's just that Old Guo's grave has been dug up."
"Oh." Lin Guangsheng didn't react.
"Big brother..." Lin Guangyi hesitated, wanting to say something but stopping himself.
"Just say what you have to say." Lin Guangsheng disliked that kind of dragging-out way of speaking; either say it directly or don't say anything at all.
"There's a wooden tablet in Old Guo's coffin." Lin Guangyi glanced at his elder brother, then at Xiao Taohua not far away, and sighed, "The tablet says that Xiao Taohua is an unlucky person who will bring disaster to others."
This was something Lin Guangyi could never have imagined.
To their surprise, they discovered that Old Guo's grave had been dug up, and even more surprisingly, they found a wooden tablet inside Old Guo's coffin with writing on it, mentioning Little Peach Blossom.
Lin Guangsheng had no expression.
What kind of expression could he possibly have?!
He was considered an unlucky person by Old Guo back then, and now he's become his daughter. Old Guo must be here to bring bad luck to them!
"Big brother?"
"If you think you'll be unlucky living with us, you can move out right away. I have no objection."
"No, brother, that's not what I meant."
"Isn't that what you mean? I think that's exactly what you meant."
"Brother, I really didn't mean that. I'm telling you this to remind you whether you've offended someone recently, otherwise why would someone put a wooden tablet in there?"
"What wooden tablet?" Yin Qing walked over. She had noticed her husband's grim expression earlier, and now that she was closer, she found the words "wooden tablet" rather strange.
"Sister-in-law..." Lin Guangyi greeted her awkwardly.
Yin Qing looked at her husband.
Lin Guangsheng sneered: "Some people can't stand to see our family doing well, they don't even spare the dead."
"What?" Yin Qing didn't quite understand.
"Sister-in-law, it's like this..." Lin Guangyi continued to explain the matter to Yin Qing.
Unlike Lin Guangsheng, who could still suppress his anger, Yin Qing exploded on the spot: "Who is it! I'll curse their ancestors!"
"Mother?"
"Little Peach Blossom, Mommy's fine, you can keep playing." Yin Qingqiang forced a smile.
"Mmm." Little Peach Blossom was easily fooled, and she continued talking to Brother Song Yi.
Song Yi looked up at Aunt Yin Qing. Although he felt he had something to do, Xiao Taohua was still more important.
Yin Qing looked coldly at Lin Guangyi: "Have you found out who did it yet?"
Lin Guangyi said helplessly, "If I find out, I'll go and settle accounts with them right now."
"Ha, even in death he can't rest in peace, still able to jump out and cause trouble!" Yin Qing also deeply loathed Old Guo.
Don't talk about it being for a bite to eat, and don't talk about revealing heavenly secrets. If you really had that ability, wouldn't you have ascended to heaven long ago? How could you be among ordinary people telling fortunes?
Yin Qing doesn't believe in fate the most!
If she believed in fate, she wouldn't be living such a good life today; she would have been tormented to death long ago!
Yes, don't be fooled by Yin Qing's current strength. Back then, Yin Qing was just like Lin Guangsheng, a pitiful and helpless girl.
Now that they're both successful, who remembers their humble beginnings?
The reason Lin Guangsheng is still so good to his family is because they didn't actually abandon him or let him starve to death back then; at least they let him live.
But Yin Qing is different. Yin Qing is even more miserable than Lin Guangsheng. She is a daughter and her family does not value her. Later, she worked herself to the bone every day to take care of the whole family. Otherwise, the couple would not have been able to have no children after so many years of marriage. It was all because of the hardships they endured back then that their health was ruined.
