An Ning and Yin Wan'er were making wontons while chatting about interesting things. It didn't take long for them to finish making wontons for several people. Sister Liu packed up everything and started cooking for the people working in the fields.
It was agreed that they would provide a meal at noon, and it didn't need to be very good. Black-faced steamed buns and big pot dishes were enough to fill you up. Moreover, the big pot dishes at An Ning's house were different from those at other houses. Other houses had a few slices of meat, which was already very good, but An Ning told Liu Mei to put more meat. The villagers here were relatively simple, and because the food at An Ning's house was good, they worked harder.
At noon, everyone went home in a lively manner. An Ning saw everyone coming back and went into the kitchen to cook wontons in a small pot. Yin Wan'er wanted to come over to help, but when she saw that the steps in the yard were full of people, holding steamed buns in one hand and a big bowl in the other, eating happily, she didn't dare to cross the yard to the kitchen.
An Ning cooked the wontons and, with the help of Liu Mei, brought the wontons and bowls and chopsticks into the main room. An Ning invited Yinggong, An Dashan and Yin Waner to eat, saying, "The wontons are ready, come and eat!"
An Dashan and Duke Yingguo had been growling with hunger for a long time. When they heard An Ning calling for dinner, they sat around the table.
Because they were in the manor, there weren't so many rules to follow, so the four of them sat around and started eating.
On the table, there were not only wontons stuffed with shepherd's purse, but also shredded potatoes with vinegar, stewed potatoes with braised pork, a plate of scrambled eggs, and a plate of mixed wild vegetables. An Ning and An Dashan often ate this kind of food, but Ying Gong and Yin Wan'er had never eaten it before. It was very new to them, and they ate all the food on the table in no time. Even Yin Wan'er felt a little full, so she quickly ate a few stomach-strengthening and digestion-promoting tablets.
After the meal, everyone rested for a while, and then the Duke of England returned to the city with the convoy transporting potatoes, while the village heads who were in charge of learning continued to stay here to farm, and went back at night, even calling it a good thing: learning to grow potatoes.
In the afternoon, An Ning and Yin Wan'er did not go out to play. They went to the nearby river for a walk. The river was clear and although there were no big fish, a few small fish could be seen from time to time. An Ning was in a playful mood and immediately went down to the river to fish.
Although the water only reached the calf, the river was still turbulent. Yin Wan'er, who was standing nearby, was terrified and shouted to An Ning in the river, "Sister An, come up quickly! This is too dangerous."
An Ning was afraid that Yin Wan'er would be anxious, so he caught about seven or eight fish and went ashore.
An Ning looked at the small fish that was about the length of her palm and said, "Sister Wan'er, do you want to eat grilled fish? The fish I grill is so delicious."
Yin Wan'er was tempted by An Ning, nodded, and said, "Okay, where should we grill it?"
An Ning looked around and found a small forest next to him with dead branches scattered on the ground. He immediately said, "I think that place is good. Let's take the test there!"
Yin Wan'er didn't understand this, so she naturally had no objection. She nodded and said, "Okay, Xiaolian and I will go pick up branches."
An Ning nodded, and while the master and servant went to pick up branches, she took out the dagger she carried with her, gutted the fish, and after cleaning it up, she stuck them all on a wooden stick.
After everything was done, Yin Wan'er and her servant came back with the branches collected. The three of them arranged the branches in the open space beside the woods, built a rack, put the skewered fish on it, and then lit a fire to start grilling.
The fish was not big, and it was fragrant after being roasted for a short while. An Ning sprinkled the seasoning she brought with her on the fish, and roasted it on the fire for a while. When the fish was thoroughly cooked, she handed one to Yin Wan'er and said, "Sister Wan'er, this fish is ready. Try it and see if it tastes good." After that, she reminded him worriedly, "This fish has a lot of bones. Be careful not to get stuck."
Yin Wan'er nodded and began to eat it in small bites. After Yin Wan'er finished chewing the first bite, she opened her eyes wide in surprise and said, "This fish is really delicious. It's so fresh!"
An Ning smiled and said, "If it tastes good, eat more." Then she handed another one to Xiao Lian and said, "Xiao Lian, would you like to try it too?"
Xiaolian took the grilled fish and said, "Thank you, County Lady."
The three of them ate the grilled fish in small bites while chatting, which was a unique experience.
After finishing the grilled fish, they cleaned up the place and returned to the farm.
When the three of them returned to the manor, An Dashan had already returned. He said to An Ning and Yin Wan'er, "Let me take you two back, otherwise Master Yin will be worried."
Yin Wan'er nodded and said, "Thank you, Uncle An." Although Yin Wan'er didn't have a great time, she knew that she couldn't stay out overnight. She could play with An Ning after she got married.
After figuring it out, they packed up and got on the carriage back home.
The next day, An Ning and An Dashan came to the farm early in the morning. There was no one else there today, so An Dashan and An Ning decided to stay there until they finished planting the land. Because there were so many people and the potato seeds were limited, they estimated that they would be able to finish planting in one more day. For the remaining fields, An Dashan and An Ning decided to plant wheat.
Time passed in a flash. More than ten days had passed and the crops in the field had been planted. An Ning told Li Zhuangtou, "Li Zhuangtou, keep an eye on this field at all times. If there is anything wrong, come to me."
Li Zhuangtou nodded and said, "Don't worry, County Master, I will do my best."
An Ning nodded, and returned home with An Dashan. It was already late April, and there were only ten days left before An Yong's wedding.
Gao looked at An Ning with some distress and said, "Look at you. You have servants at home and hired people on the farm. Besides, your father is still here. Why do you have to work like this? You have such a fair face, but it's tanned now."
After that, he glared at An Dashan and said, "You too, you spend the whole day with your daughter and don't even keep an eye on her."
An Dashan also looked innocent and said, "You can't blame me for this. I couldn't persuade her!"
An Ning smiled and said, "Mom, I just like to do this. You can't blame my dad for this." Then she was afraid that Gao would continue to nag, so she asked, "How is the family? Is everything ready?"
When Gao heard An Ning ask this, she nodded and said, "Everything is ready. Your brother has moved to another courtyard, and the new house has been vacated. We are just waiting for Lord Yin's residence to send Wan'er's dowry on the first day of May."
The tradition here is to send the bride's dowry to her husband's family in advance before the wedding, so Gao said that.
